Good beds and bedding, very very quiet and peaceful, yet just a short walk to that wonderful walk along the river through wild garlic wood to the village. Parked right outside the house every day, three steps to front door. Glorious large well kept back garden, lawn, flower beds, patio area, no escape for our little dog Bonnie. Welcome cakes, good selection of drinks. Slight issue with radiator in bedroom awaiting repair, but would happily revisit. Owner very friendly and happy to help and assist with queries.

The Cottage is tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and very well equipped, with everything you could possibly want or need for a relaxing break. It’s a spacious cottage, but still very warm and cosy. The sofa in the lounge is particularly comfortable, and much needed after a long day out walking. The bed and pillows are comfortable, and the bedding is excellent quality. The Cottage is situated on a quiet street, with only a short walk to the village centre. Overall, an excellent cottage, and a credit to Amanda (the owner).   ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We have had a wonderful stay in this immaculately clean and tidy cottage. Everything you could think of was provided along with a welcome pack and a delicious cake. Towels, bowls and toys are provided for our 4 legged friends and there is a lovely big garden which is fully enclosed for them to roam around in. Thornton le Dale is a lovely village (even in Winter) and Pickering is only a short drive away with other places of interest within easy reach. The cottage is in a quiet area just a 10 minute walk into the main village. Amanda is a lovely host and we can't wait to return, hopefully soon!

  • "Cottage was Ok, but the parking was not."

No street lights meant that it was very dark outside and there was a steep bank to the cottage. Steps on the bank were sloping and in my opinion were dangerous. Recommend an outside light be fitted to the front door of the cottage as coming in at night was NOT good.(in fact I feel it was unsafe). Cottage itself was OK, but the shower was not. The heating control was almost immovable and the water was very hot. Kitchen. Christmas mat was slippery , kitchen was well equipped. Bedroom. Bed was comfortable. Living room. Sofa has seen better days and is very soft. Christmas tree was a nice touch. and we had to move it (minor detail)

Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry to hear you had issues with parking at the property - this is not something I have experienced at all during my time there, or that has been reported by other guests. We have had a mixture of guests with a range of mobility who have also never raised any issue with the few steps to reach the property as these are not what I would call steep. It has previously been discussed whether a light could be added to the exterior, but due to the priximity of the neighbouring properties and frequency of movement on this road - it is believed that a motion sensored light would cause quite a disruption to the neighbours facing. The sofa is just a few years old and from guest feedback is generally found to be comfortable, although I appreciate this is a matter of personal preference. My number is provided so that guests always have an opportunity to call with any in property issues, but I didn't receive any contact from you about the shower. It has since been checked and is fully functional, however you do need to press the button in whilst turning to adjust the temperature - a common safety feature to prevent accidental scalding. AS YOU KEEP SAYING ABOUT THE COST OF ENERGY BUT NO HEATING NOT EVEN A FIRE AS A BACK UP NOT GREAT

Hi, I'm sorry that you had such a terrible stay! The cream carpets are there to protect my own property from people and dogs walking in with dirty feet, and are clearly visible on the property photos, so shouldn't have been a surprise to you. Dog towels are provided in the porch area along with a shoe tray. The heating thermostat sits, clearly visible, next to the cupboard where the glasses are kept in the dining room. The boiler is 'on' all day long. On the thermostat there is a button with + sign on it, which, when pressed fires up the boiler and increases the temperature. There is also a large open fire in the living room which can be lit as and when guests like and has been used on many occasions. It isn't disguised, and there is a log basket, coal bucket and fire tools provided, so not sure how you missed its presence. My phone number is provided throughout the guest book, so a simple phone call could have resolved all of this rather than resorting to publishing a damning and unnecessary review Property Owner

The Cottage was very clean, well laid out and had everything you could need, it was warm and cosy and the garden was lovely, a real sun trap on the decking where we sat out to enjoy meals and watch the birds and world go by. Thornton Le Dale is such a relaxing place, just a short walk to the end of the road from The Cottage and over the bridge across the ford takes you into a lovely little copse which follows the beck up towards the centre of the village and the duck pond (where we were lucky enough to see the abundance of ducklings!). We enjoyed wandering around the village on various easy going walks with our dog and for further adventures we went to Dalby Forest which is vast, as well as a scenic drive across the moors to Whitby. We also visited Ravenscar, Pickering, Helmsley and Scarborough which are all very easily accessible from this fabulous base. Also thank you to Amanda who was very quick to come over and sort out a minor problem with the heating. Couldn't recommend this place enough and i hope that i will be fortunate enough to stay here again in the future. Can also recommend the helpful and friendly team at Sykes, who, when our original cottage was cancelled due to covid restrictions, were very quick to infrom us and assist us with an alternative booking option, we were so grateful to be able to keep our dates and in hindsight we ended up in the best place we could have!

  • "We really loved staying in The Cottage."

It is easily the most comfortable and well-equipped holiday cottage we have stayed in. All the equipment, furniture and fittings are of a very high standard. We will certainly come back (if we can find a vacant week or two - it is extremely popular)!

  • "From the 1st moment we felt at home."

Great location, well equipped and we had a smashing time. The village is lovely and felt quite at home and didn't want to leave which is always a great sign. The owner had thought a lot about the needs of guests and apart from the very minor point of the gate being padlocked and maybe the addition of a clothes horse could not have been faulted. We hope to return one day.

THORTON LE DALE IS A PICTURESQUE VILLAGE GIVING EASY ACCESS TO THE NORTH YORK MOORS, WHITBY AND SCARBOROUGH. AS A FAMILY WE WOULD CERETAINLY RECOMMEND THIS COTTAGE TO FRIENDS AND NEIGHBOURS.
