“The booking itself and everything ...”

The booking itself and everything thereafter in terms of admin was handled very well and the property was as described. We were aware there was no wi-fi and accepted that situation. However, we do feel that nowadays all properties should have wi-fi if it is practical to install a phone line as it would have been here. Quite apart from being able to keep in touch while away should one wish to do so, it also makes it easy to research places to visit, check opening times and so on. Admittedly ...

Admittedly there was a good 3G signal but one of our party had reason to want to use online banking and using the public system isn't ideal. We would have been happy to have paid a little extra to have had the facility. We were also slightly surprised that there was no visitors book. The comments of previous visitors can, in our experience, be very helpful sometimes in terms of recommendations of places to go, places to eat and so on. These comments aren't, I stress, intended as any criticism but simply as suggestions as to how the experience of visitors to the property might be enhanced.

About the location

THORNTON-LE-DALE

Pickering 3 miles; Scarborough 16 miles; York 25 miles.

The beautiful village of Thornton-le-Dale lies just two miles to the east of Pickering within The North York Moors National Park. Much of its charm comes from its complicated shape - a fascinating jumble of streams and paths and pretty houses with an attractive village green which still has its wooden stocks and a market cross. The village offers a selection of shops, pubs and tea rooms. The nearby market town of Pickering offers a good range of amenities and the famous North York Moors Steam Railway. There are broad fields above and below the village and views to the south across the Vale of Pickering, whilst to the north is the Forestry Commission's Dalby Forest, with several excellent nature trails to be enjoyed. Further afield, but within driving distance, are the east coast and the city of York.
