Everything you need for a comfortable stay. Spotlessly clean. Really appreciated the electric candles as well as I had forgotten night lights for the kids. Beautiful views all around and the Chapel has been restored very stylishly. We travelled into York using the Grimston bar p&r which was about 15 mins away and very handy.

The converted Chapel is delightful. Full of modern features and appliances but it has still retained it's character. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we stepped through the door and nothing was too much trouble for Alex and Jenny. The bed was so comfortable and as the Chapel is on a quiet lane it enabled a restful nights sleep. It was great to meet Alex on our final morning so we could thank him personally.

It is a beautiful, restored chapel and the owners have gone the extra mile in providing a warm and welcoming place to stay. The kitchen is well equipped, bathrooms are of a high standard and the beds are comfortable with quality linens. The surrounding countryside was quiet and peaceful with the odd tractor rumbling past. We would love to stay at The Old Chapel again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

  • "A lovely converted old chapel in a quite area within easy travelling distance of York."

The chapel has been really well converted with a couple of exceptions (see later). There is a large open plan living are with a nice well equipped kitchen and dining living area. There is downstairs double bedroom and bathroom and a mezzanine with a double bed and en-suite shower room. There is lots of nature around, we saw a fox a hare and pheasants from the kitchen window and deer, barn owls and hares in the field across the road. The quiet is only spoilt by the occasional tractor. We visited in March on a very cold week, but the log burner kept us very warm even when it was snowing outside. The place is great for two, but a bit of a compromise for four. The mezzanine has two drawbacks. The lovely large arched window in the living area has no blinds, so in summer the room will get light at 4-5am, so take your eye shades. Also the basin in the en-suite is minute. You can hardly wash your hands in it, never mind trying to wash you face.

Dear David, Many thanks for your comments and feedback on your stay at The Old Chapel. Jenny and I are so glad you enjoyed the peace and quiet the Chapel and area has to offer within easy distance to York. Much more likely to see local wildlife, than people in the area, as you found. Thank you for your thoughts on the feature crescent window and the upstairs wet room basin. We did actually canvass guests in the early stages as to whether we should install blinds or similar across this window. The feedback given to us was that guests using the mezzanine enjoyed the open views across the fields from the bed. As a result of this feedback we decided to leave the window as a beautiful feature. The basin is smaller than standard size, as we had to maximise space for the shower in the en suite wet room. Wishing you both all the very best and thank you once again for your review. • "We stayed at The Old Chapel from 1st December for a 2 week booking."

We were absolutely delighted upon arrival, to find such a warm and welcoming ‘home from home.’ It was such a beautiful place, spotlessly clean, well equipped and so comfortable! We were fascinated to read about the history of the building and thought that the renovation had been accomplished to really high standards, retaining the charming features of the property, whilst providing a stylish and beautifully decorated place to stay. In contrast to many holiday rentals where supplies are often in short supply, the owners ensured that everything was generously provided for- even firewood for the log burning stove! Some tasteful Christmas decorations were in place, and a nice touch was a message from Alex arranging to call round with a Christmas tree and a gorgeous hand-made wreath for the front door. The accommodation was perfect for us, as my husband spent some time working at The University of York and I was able to work remotely on my laptop from The Old Chapel. But we had plenty of time to enjoy the peaceful surroundings and visit some beauty spots and try out a few local pubs for meals. Many thanks to the owners for all their kindness and attention to detail. We would definitely like to stay at The Old Chapel again. Highly recommended!
