  • "We really enjoyed our week at Fairhaven Cottage."

The location was good to be able to drive to various different places including Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay and Scarborough. The cottage itself was very clean and cosy with all amenities that we required, and the landlord was very informative when speaking to arrange the key collection. And the pub next door served excellent food and good drinks. Highly recommended, thank you.

Thank you for your lovely comments it's very much appreciated. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage in a beautiful rural setting, ideally located for both the North York Moors and the coast."

Cottage is very comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. We found the communication from Michael, the owner, very useful both before and during our visit. He also responded very promptly to a small issue we had on our first day. Although the kitchen was very well stocked for home cooking, we would recommend the nearby Black Bull Pub for an excellent Sunday Carvery lunch. Overall the cottage was perfect for the relaxing de-stress week we needed!

Pretty village and good pub. Parking right outside the door is a bonus. Good shower and comfy bed and sofas made for a relaxing week and the smart TV with access to Netflix etc was a nice bonus too for the evening. Thank you, we hope to stay again soon.

Fairhaven was really comfortable and had everything that we needed. The owner was brilliant, made contact and shared with me more details about the property. It’s location is also brilliant, in the North York Moors, which was handy for walking, near to the coast and also next door to a great pub serving good food as well. I definitely would like to stay here again!!

Agree the water pressure upstairs is a little slow but it soon gets upto temp and the free standing electric shower more than makes up for this no pressure required. Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely cottage set in what we think is the perfect spot for exploring the north york moors and coast."

The cottage itself is roomy and well appointed. Michael the owner contacted a number of times to check that everything was good with our stay. There is a lovely communal garden at the back, which is a sunny spot. We were the only people using it. It was fun to watch the birds. Had it been warmer I am sure we might have eaten dinner at the outdoor table. There is a pub next door but one- which is busy. But fear not we had no disturbance what so ever. For those who want to walk from the cottage, if you get the OS map out you will be able to plot easy walks to the coast, which is what we did. Would definately stay again.

Thank you for your lovely comments, It is much appreciated. Property Owner

The communication from Sykes and the owner was excellent and very reassuring. The cottage was extremely comfortable and had everything we needed. Very well equipped in every way with quality fittings, furniture and housewares. Perfect location for beautiful beaches, which is just what we wanted. The owner let us know who was available if we needed anything. This was really good to know although everything was fine.

The cottage was lovely with everything you need. The log burner is boiling so warms the whole house very quickly so not needed on all at time. Bathroom was spacious but there was no window. The kitchen was a great size and had everything we needed. Beds were comfy and it was great to have the little pub next door. The owner communicated with us and made sure we were happy and had all we needed. Thanks for a great stay.

  • "Fairhaven cottage is a fabulous place to stay."

Well located and in great condition. The added benefit of a first class pub next door was the icing on the cake. If I had to be really picky, the kitchen knives could use a sharpen and to get the best out of the dishwasher, you would need a second set of crockery, but that's it. Otherwise, this place is pretty much perfect and we will be back.

We never heard cars or patrons coming or going. The cottage was immaculately clean and had everything to ensure a warm and pleasant stay. Michael discreetly kept in touch to ensure everything was ok- it was perfect! Amazing wildlife a woodpecker out the back every morning and we saw Hares in the field and a Barn Owl. Easy access to all East Coast. Gave us chance to enjoy the Ghost Walk in Whitby from the Whale arches, usually we have headed home by then. And lovely coastal drive to Sandsend, Runswick Bay, Staithes without being on main tourist route.

The property

An endearing, stone terraced cottage, located near to the local inn, in the village of Ugthorpe.

Cosy and appealing, the cottage is ideal for families wishing to stay in a peaceful setting, but still be within easy reach of the Yorkshire coastal resorts of Whitby, Saltburn, Staithes and Scarborough.

The comfortable sitting room has a warming multi-fuel stove and there are patio doors leading to a private patio area, overlooking a pleasant, shared gravel garden.

The spacious kitchen/diner overlooks the main street, with panoramic views of farmland beyond.

There are two pleasant bedrooms on the first floor, one overlooking farmland to the north and the second overlooking the gravelled garden to the south.

With careful renovation, this is a comfortable and cosy cottage with the added benefit of a popular village inn, selling fine ales and good food, on the doorstep.

There are splendid walking and cycling trails to be discovered nearby, whilst the popular seaside town of Whitby, with its long sandy beaches and cobbled streets, is just a short, scenic drive away.

Discover the elegant spa town of Saltburn to the north, or take a trip to the second spa town of Scarborough a little further to the south - both will afford pleasant days out as you explore the independent shops, tea rooms and art galleries.

A well-placed cottage for a relaxing holiday.
