Mrs Robertson “Hazel chalet is set in a quiet little area very close to Helmsley, So visiting interesting sights such as Rievaulx Abbey is literally 30 mins drive.”
We had a great stay..and would book again
- Mrs Robertson, August 2019 -
Mr Powell “The chalet was impeccably clean the bedding smelt amazing!”
Directions were easy to follow and precise. Handy to have pamphlets of local amenities and things to do too. Cannot speak highly enough of our accommodation and holiday, will most definitely be returning.
- Mr Powell, August 2019Mrs Royle “I love Hazel Chalet and also Damson which I stayed in last year.”
It is a lovely, peaceful spot and a good base for travelling to see all that's on offer in N Yorkshire. The only criticism would be the entrance/exit close to the house can be tricky in wet weather.
- Mrs Royle, May 2019Mr Hyom “Had to cancel due to weather and illness no refund but discount on next booking offered went to book and requested that discount but good none offered.”
So debated in verbal offer.would have gone back on regular basis but custom list and I wouldn't go back again.
- Mr Hyom, December 2018Mr Hoh “Yes just one negative we would have liked to have been informed as to the fact it is close to a main road as we did find it quite noisey a lot of the time.”
We did book hoping for a quiet weekend.Having said that though now we know where it is situated we would still stay again just take some ear plugs.
- Mr Hoh, November 2018Mr Robinson “The chalet was up to what we expected.”
The place was clean and tidy with all the items we needed for the week. The bed was very comfortable. For the price, we felt it was good value. We have paid more for other locations which were not up to the standard of Hazel. Commend Mr Menzies on his hospitality and friendly welcome. Jim and Jenny Robinson
- Mr Robinson, October 2018Mr Brown “Poor external lighting made it difficult to find our chalet in the dark, as the name 'Hazel' had fallen off.”
It is in desperate need of a steam clean inside and out to remove thick black mould around all windows and shower base. There was a strong foisty smell of damp.Thick cobwebs outside the front door and roof need to removed as this give the place a dirty feel. Cobwebs also on the inside around window frames. Windows do not seem to have been cleaned for years. Thick dust on kitchen utensils hanging up. Sharp screws sticking out where the carpet joins the kitchen lino.
- Mr Brown, October 2018Mr Tagg “Me and my wife stayed at hazel lodge with our two dogs we had a great time the lodge was very warm and very cosy it was very clean it had everything in the lodge we needed and the owner Mr Menzies is a true gentleman, I will recommend this to family and friends .”
We will definitely go back ...100%
- Mr Tagg, October 2018Mrs Royle “Really enjoyed staying in the chalet.”
It is well situated to access all different types of outdoor activities. Chalets looked a little run down from the outside but they are in the process of being refurbished and inside the refurbished chalets are amazing. The chalet I stayed in has not been revamped but was comfortable and had everything I needed. I would recommend that this chalet stay as a two bed as the others on that particular site have been revamped with couples in mind. I believe this is a good place for a family, couple or lone person and dog (me)!
- Mrs Royle, September 2018Mr Leniart “The cottage was excellent if you want to take a break from the city.”
Highly recommend!
- Mr Leniart, August 2018Mr Davies “I made 4 phone calls to Sykes because the key collection details (phone number) didn't work.”
On the morning of my departure to North Yorkshire, I was advised to go to the Chalet and the keys would probably be in the door. As it turns out the keys were in the door! The Chalet is VERY dated and in places starting to look run down. On one side of the double bed, the mattress has a depression. So, only one side of the double bed was usuable. For £60 a night, it is not worth the money.
- Mr Davies, July 2018Mr Panes “Good lodge.”
Really needs new mattress as got sore back. Like the way the lodge is old style and has all that's needed.
- Mr Panes, July 2018Mrs Krogh “Everything was great a bit dated but very clean and comfortable would definitely use again”
- Mrs Krogh, July 2018Miss Pato “Basic facilities but very cosy and comfy.”
Just what I needed to switch off from a busy life. Nice location. There is a lot of things to do nearby in Ampleforth and Helmsley.
- Miss Pato, April 2018Mrs Donovan “Lovely cosy little chalet.”
Well equipped. Beautiful scenery & views.
- Mrs Donovan, March 2018Mr Thomas “Very comfortable property everything you need for a couple .”
Very warm and cosy as we were staying during the extreme snow event and were snowed in for a few days . Owner very helpful, will return later in the year to see the places we could not get to because of the snow
- Mr Thomas, February 2018Mr Hyom “Great directions & communication Most hospitable greeting.”
Lovely chalet fit for our purpose very cosy & comfy . Would highly recommend to anyone who needs a base to venture out into the amazing yorkrkshire countryside Close to Helmsley great little market town or Thirsk same Stapleton arms and Angel Inn at Hightop to be highly recommended for food. Our stay in Chalet made our Christmas complete especially as it snow’d day we left so picturesque .
- Mr Hyom, December 2017Mr Mcpherson “Very helpful owner, phoned us the day before arrival warning us about the risk of snow making it difficult to get our car right up to the chalet, in fact upon arrival we were able to get parked right outside without any problem.”
The chalet was already cosy warm, with plenty piping hot water. We were made to feel very welcome and found it a great place for a relaxing time, away from it all. No phone signal or wifi at the premises was an added bonus! Local pubs served excellent drinks and food, they were more than happy to accommodate our little dog. A great location, plenty to see and do nearby, highly recommended.
- Mr Mcpherson, December 2017Ms Scott-wilkinson “The Chalet was very cosy and quaint.”
It was perfect for a couple or a person holidaying alone.
- Ms Scott-wilkinson, November 2017Mr Perkins “A beautiful quiet getaway.”
Left alone which is always nice. Very clean and comfortable.
- Mr Perkins, July 2017Mr Michou “Very friendly welcome.”
The accommodation was basic but very quaint. Lovely area. Great local pubs.
- Mr Michou, April 2017Ms Green “Lovely location and great little chalet, small but well organised space, well equipped little kitchen.”
I did this holiday without a car -- got the bus from Helmsley to Ampleforth and it will drop you off quite close, though best to walk to the village to the bus stop to catch it back -- just to show you it can be done. Found plenty within walking distance to keep occupied, though the weather was also extremely kind! Ampleforth College gift shop sells beers, liquors and ciders made on the premises, very handy.
- Ms Green, March 2017Miss Green “This was a very cosy but spacious property, a lovely place to stay and was well situated for exploring both the moors and the dales.”
Would definitely stay again. :-)
- Miss Green, October 2016Sportybarb “Quiet and peaceful”
This chalet was everything we expected it to be for the price we paid. We had a lovely week here without being disturbed. The owner was very polite and was there to meet us, the rental included bed linen and fresh clean towels of good quality. The directions we were given were spot on. Although the property is secluded it was within walking distance to the local pub and grocery store. (I highly recommend Sunday roast at the White Horse Inn). Dogs are welcome there too. It is also worth a trip to Ampleforth abbey and there is a very nice walk around the abbey area. For us it was a perfect place to stay with our dog and it was ideal for walking the dog in the surrounding area. The chalet had everything we needed and would go there again. Although when we booked it said 1 dog I did notice that it wasn't a problem for there to be 2 dogs. If you are a person that wants 4 or 5 star then this isn't the property for you but if you want a pleasant base with your dogs and listening to wildlife then this is ideal. One thing to point out is there is no mobile signal at the chalet.
- Sportybarb, September 2016Ms Walker “The owner was really helpful and the property is in a lovely quiet location.”
- Ms Walker, December 2015Mr Chacko “A very enjoyable experience, felt like a home away from home.”
- Mr Chacko, November 2015Mr Perkins “The Chalet is comfortable, peaceful and is an ideal base to explore the area.”
We had a brilliant time and are hoping to come to the Hazel Chalet again.
- Mr Perkins, June 2015Miss Brown “Loved how once we'd got keys we were left in total peace.”
Had great free laundry facilities, excellent dog walking, sightseeing and mountain biking. Lots of local different towns to shop in. Just had a great relaxing 2 weeks.
- Miss Brown, January 2015Mr Thompson “Lovely people great location, peaceful very good rates, this was just what we needed and we shall definitely return.”
- Mr Thompson, November 2014Mrs Ashley “It was very peaceful, and we were very well looked after.”
- Mrs Ashley, October 2014Mr Maass “The chalet was spotless, the owner was polite and helpful.”
Waking up every morning to the green light from the large trees and the birdsong was a lovely start to our day, the country around was fantastic and we felt relaxed and very rested at the end of our stay, we would gladly go back again for the experience, the only downside was we didn't book for a longer holiday. We wish to thank our host for a most welcome break from our busy life.
- Mr Maass, September 2014Mr Jones “It was peaceful and quiet, with local wildlife on the doorstep.”
There was ease of access and close proximity to sights, places of interest, local dining and other local amenities.
- Mr Jones, September 2014mattsharpe86 “Lovely little chalet”
Came for a week away and it was lovely, had everything we needed and was a very pleasent experience. Its very quiet around there and there is ample area for the dog within the grounds. The owner was very polite and helpful. I would definitley recommend this to others and I would return in the future.
- mattsharpe86, August 2014Mr Sharpe “This was a lovely little Chalet for our break.”
It had everything we needed and the owner was very pleasant and helpful. This is ideal for couples and walkers. We would definitely return again for another holiday.
