  • “We loved the cottage, especially the views.”

The personal recommendations were very welcome—the shipping app was a big hit. A few odd omissions, such as no oven gloves or butter dish, but we were well supplied with lemon juicers and little jugs. The sitting room had some cobwebs by the fireplace. The children, age 4-11 had a great time, often in the turret looking out with binoculars. Access to the beach without crossing any roads was very helpful.

The property

Poet’s View is a large detached property boasting spectacular panoramic sea views from most of its rooms thanks to its elevated, cliff top location. Situated in the quiet West Cliff area of Whitby, within easy walking distance of the town centre, the property has one of the most dramatic locations in town. A ground floor bedroom and shower room make this a suitable choice for less mobile guests.

Families will appreciate the ample off-road parking and delightful enclosed gardens.

A wonderful choice for those seeking a unique and restful bolt-hole.

It even has its own turret, how romantic! On the ground floor, there’s a well-equipped kitchen with all the modern conveniences you’d expect, including a dishwasher. A separate formal dual aspect dining room, with vaulted ceiling, provides a wonderful place to enjoy meals together, whilst admiring the sea views. The hallway leads onto a generous sitting room with well mounted flat screen TV, full Sky package and Bluetooth speakers. More seating can be found in the delightful sun room.

Fling open the French windows and discover the pretty lawned gardens.

And for something completely different, how about relaxing in the quirky turret!

Young and old alike will adore the sunsets and sea panoramas. For guests seeking ground floor accommodation, Poet’s View has a king-size double bedroom and shower room with shower, basin and WC. Moving upstairs, there are a further three bedrooms: two doubles – one with an huge American king-sized bed (separates into twin beds if required) and a twin room with bunks.

Guests can expect to wake up to fantastic sea views, or leave the window open and enjoy the sound of the sea as you drift off to sleep. There is also a large house bathroom with bath, separate shower cubicle, basin and WC. Outside is a laundry room with a washing machine and dryer. The pretty gardens wrap round the house to the front, side and rear with a pergola and table and chairs for al fresco dining – fancy breakfast with a view?

There is the considerable advantage of on-drive parking for two or three cars. Whitby town centre is a pleasant 10 mins’ walk away.

Take the lift down to the beach for some timeless seaside fun.

The bustling waterfront is home to a wide variety of lovely restaurants, the world-class fish and chips are a must!

A short stroll over the swing bridge leads to Whitby’s ‘old town’, with its twisting cobbled streets and independent shops selling antiques and iconic jet.

The town oozes history and no visit is complete without learning more about Captain Cook at the Memorial Museum. Follow the coastline north to Sandsend, when the tide is out, and enjoy a well earned coffee and cake in one of the pretty cafes there.

Other picturesque fishing villages awaiting discovery include: Staithes, Robin Hood’s Bay and Runswick Bay. Whitby and the heritage coast are sure to steal your heart.

Poet’s View is a memorable and handsome property, the perfect coastal retreat.
