“The cottage is fantastic and overall we loved our holiday.”
It is very spacious inside (the dogs loved chasing each other around the living room) and it is a lovely and clean house. The home comforts were great - the shower got hot quickly and had good pressure plus the bed was comfortable with extra blankets available. The wifi worked well and there is a large TV in the living room and main bedroom. The EV charger accessed via the garden was a real bonus. Also in a great location for walks - RSPB Bempton Cliffs was a particular highlight and Filey is a great dog-friendly town! It is however noteworthy that (although it is absolutely no fault of the cottage owners) the neighbouring garden contained multiple dogs who seemed to be in the garden most of the time rain or shine and would bark at our dogs almost every time they went outside. I don't know if this is a temporary situation or if it'd be more peaceful if you didn't have dogs but for us it did prevent us from being able to sit in the garden and broke the peace whenever we needed to let them out to toilet. I also think it is worth mentioning the house rules prevent dogs from going upstairs and on furniture as it is good to be aware of these things in advance.- Kate, October 2021
“Comfortable and enjoyable stay.”
If family visiting, bedrooms a little on the small side although master quite spacious. Downstairs very comfortable and spacious. Well equipped, everything yoh might need. Only thing which could be doing with updating, is cutlery as small, flimsy and felt cheap, compared to other utensils and crockery. Excellent base for exploring the coast and also inland to York and Harrogate. Lots of interesting places to visit eg Sledmere House, Burton Agnes Hall, Fraisthorpe Beach and a few lovely garden centres, all within an easy drive. Bridlington and Scarborough both have Park and Ride which is value for money. Only downside were noisy dogs next door, but they did quieten down as they got used to people being next door.- Andrew, September 2021
“Fantastic cottage and location.”
Felt like a real ‘home from home’. Thanks- Senga, September 2021
“Lovely house and a great location to explore the lovely coastal towns.”
Very well equipped. Made a lot of use of the enclosed garden which was great for the dog. Only downside was the constantly growling and barking dogs next door which took the edge off our ability to properly relax outside which was such a shame. Would definitely recommend - a great house!- Diarmid, July 2021
“The old school house is an excellent place to stay”- Clare, July 2021
“Cottage was well equipped, comfortable and very clean.”
In a good situation in a lovely village with lots of footpaths over the Wolds: and Woldgate - (as in Hockney's "Spring comes to Woldgate", the Roman road running east at the end of the village - is spectacular in Autumn as well!- Humphrey, October 2020

“We had a lovely stay at the Old School House over New Year.”
The house is great, everything we needed was there. Well furnished large open plan living/eating space great for families. The village is very picturesque and nice for a wee wander. Ventured to the Old Star pub, a 5 minute walk from the house, very nice for a drink by the open fire. A great area to explore everything from shopping in York (use the park and ride its great) to beaches. Would definitely go back. Thanks for having us.- Victoria, December 2019

Kitchen more than well equipped with all you needed (+++). Living room very large but with a cosy feeling to relax in. Bedrooms, beds so comfy, quiet and yet airy. Clean and well cared for. Location fabulous for exploring Yorkshire coast and country. If I had to find a negative, I am struggling here, there were a number of spiders but this was easy solved with hoover, yes we in the country but there was a lot and one of us as a bit of a fear. But as I as easy solved. Host, again first rate and contacted throughout to check all ok and ideas for dog friendly days out. Absolute gem!!!- Paula, September 2019

“We had a fantastic week at Old School House.”
Property was beautiful, lovely and clean and exceeded our expectations. It’s much bigger than it looks on the photos and we would highly recommend this property to all. The property has everything you could need, and the personal touches and welcome pack in the property were fab. We will definitely be booking to stay again.- Amanda, July 2019
“We stayed in the wonderful 0ld School House in July this year 2019.”
The house has everything you need and more for the most comfortable holiday, it’s spotlessly clean with lots of space and luxurious beds for a perfect nights sleep. We had breakfast in the adorable court yard also early evening drinks before walking across the road to the two most welcoming pubs for amazing food. We found lots to do in the area and really enjoyed the beaches were our little dog loved the walks. We will definitely return. Thank you to the owners for the best holiday home ever, and we have stayed in many over the last 40 years. Jackie CHesterfield.- Jackie, July 2019
“The Old School House was welcoming, spacious, spotless, comfortable and completely relaxing - it ticked all the boxes for a perfect get away.”
Although previous 'staycations' up and down the country had taught us to pack all manner of essentials and extras, the owners thought of everything to make their guests feel at home. This property is loved and well cared for - with tasteful decor and furnishings, modern kitchen equipment, and a recently refurbished and relaxing outside space. The easily accessible off-street parking is immediately adjacent to the house and very convenient. We left - albeit reluctantly - with many happy memories of Yorkshire, its heritage and hospitality.- Paul, July 2019
“The old school house is the perfect place to stay.”
From the moment we arrived it felt like a home from home. The photos on line don't give you the true sense of how spacious it is. There was everything you could need and more and the whole place was immaculately clean. Plenty to see and do in the surrounding areas. Communication with the owner could not have been better, can't wait to return.- Kaz, June 2019
“Really well equipped, clean and spacious house, a real home from home.”- Simon, June 2019
“The Old School House is a wonderful property, beautifully furnished and extremely well equipped, from quality appliances down to chargers for phones, iPads etc and hose pipe to clean the dog after a few hours on the beach (he wasn’t pleased!”
). Ideal location to get to various places of interest. Using the back roads, you can quickly get to Bridlington, Filey and Scarborough, and also lots of dog friendly quieter beaches like Fraisthorpe and Hunmanby Gap. Nice friendly pub across the road, where they will do take out meals if you prefer to eat in the cottage. Impossible to find fault with this home from home, we’d love to return, preferably with some warmer and drier weather!- John, June 2019
“We had a wonderful week at the Old School House with 4 adults and our 2 dogs.”
The cottage is clean, well equipped and comfortable. The beds are really comfortable. The garden is safe and enclosed and a really nice sun trap with plenty of seating. The Wolds are an unspoilt gem. The village is friendly and there are good footpath walks from the village. The Bay Horse does an excellent roast at very reasonable prices. Nearby Fraisbrough beach and Burton Agnes Hall are well worth a visit and dog friendly. The owners were helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay here again.- Stephen, May 2019
“Old School House was a bright, comfortable and very well-equipped home.”
It was easy for me and my husband and our 2 grandchildren aged 7 and 4 to feel completely at home in. After a day out exploring the Wolds and the beaches ( Bempton Cliffs being the favourite ) we all loved coming back to relax. The garden was lovely to sit in ...a real sun trap.....and Harry and Zara looked after the flowers and herbs very diligently. It was great to cook with fresh herbs. Everyone we met in the village was so friendly as well. A lovely holiday home. Oh and the games in the cupboard were excellent. The TV was great. And finally our border collie found it very comfortable. It was so good to be able to go out with him for an early morning walk through the village and quickly find ourselves on footpaths through the surrounding fields.- Shelagh, May 2019
“This is the biggest and best house we've ever booked through Sykes.”
It was beautifully decorated and very well equipped. (We have stayed in cottages where there has been only enough crockery for a day and not enough to fill the dishwasher.) The courtyard at the back was a real suntrap in the evenings, ideal for afternoon tea or a sundowner ! It was ideal for visiting both the coast and the Yorkshire wolds. We particularly enjoyed Beverley and the gardens in Pocklington. The pub across the road do excellent meals and the people were very friendly. Highly recommended.- Marie, May 2019
“This is a marvellous property to stay in.”
Clean, fresh and has everything you need and more. We were in between properties during a house move, and it was a "home from home". For a holiday, it is ideal, being close to so many aspects of Yorkshire - the North Yorkshire Moors, The Wolds, the coast and several major towns. The village of Kilham is a delight in itself. The owners are very attentive to detail and ensure a happy stay. Thoroughly recommend this property- Glyn, April 2019
