  • "Lovely property."

Location is fantastic, central to Whitby but also quiet. Lots of nice pubs, places to eat and chippys within walking distance and close to the beach. Second time we’ve stayed and highly recommend.

Thanks Katie. Glad you enjoyed it and hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

  • "The flat was in a great location and the bed and sofa were very comfortable."

However there was a smell of damp which I know can be inevitable in a basement property. The mats in the bedroom, living room and kitchen were rather grubby as were the two throws on the sofa. Just replacing or washing these regularly would make such a difference. The washing machine looked so ancient that I didn’t dare use it. The ‘welcome pack’ described in the owners notes seemed to consist of one pack of biscuits…. Overall it was a bit underwhelming.

Thanks for the feedback Jenny. We’ve got some new throws and will be looking at replacing the mats too. Property Owner

Plenty of shops nearby. Lovely view from the end of the street of Whitby Abbey. Would definitely stay here again.

  • "Because of the dark nights and heavy rain it could be a great benefit with a light on the exterior stairway."

Thanks for your feedback. Glad you had a pleasant stay. There is an exterior light which can be left on while you are out and about. The switch is by the inside of the door. This does help to illuminate the stairwell upon your return. I appreciate this is not on the actual stairs however so will give it some thought. Property Owner

  • "It's a great location."

The flat was clean and comfortable but we wouldn't recommend it until the problem of damp is sorted out. The windows were a little open when we arrived but there was wet patches on the bedroom and living room walls and a smell of damp throughout. The bed was very comfortable though, as was the sofa. The bathroom is so compact it's only ok if you're slim, and it's not brilliant being en-suite, would have preferred a separate loo. We would probably come back, as it's so well situated but the damp really needs to be sorted out.

Thanks for the feedback Leanne. I’m glad you enjoyed your time in Whitby. During the Summer months a basement flat can feel more humid. I think it may have been amplified this year with the unusually high temperatures. I do hope you will return. Thanks again Property Owner

  • "Sadly when we arrived we had to start washing pots and cutlery as they had been left unwashed and stained, the cooker hood was covered in greas and sticky to touch, the drainer on the sink was rusty, some plates were chipped."

This forced us to eat out every meal which we had not planned on and a further expense as we were expecting cooking some nice meals indoors.we spoke to the caretaker whilst away was told we don,t have time to wash cups, cutlery etc we expect the previous occupier to do that, forgot to mention the cupboards were filthy and all saucepans very dirty we left them as they were when we arrived as i don,t expect to have to clean a kitchen etc before starting my holiday Thanks Andy. Please note photos were took we have tried to submit these to Sykes but have had no response( case ref COR-275223-CF).Awaiting your response. Also the sofa needs a deep clean as an accumulation of dust, dog biscuits etc were found when i dropped my car keys and removed a cushion.

Thank you for your feedback Andy. We sincerely apologise and have raised this issue with the cleaning company, who have reassured us the points you’ve raised will not reoccur. Property Owner

  • "The property is perfectly located near the town centre of Whitby and the west cliffs only a few minutes walk away."

The property is exactly as the photographs show, the lounge is roomy and has a very comfortable corner sofa, much needed after all the walking. Bedroom again is roomy with a lovely comfortable bed, bedding was good quality too. Bathroom (en-suite) is small and the shower cubicle is tiny, if we could advise the owners of anything it would be to install a shelf to put shampoos/shower gel on as once you are in the shower there is no room to bend down to retrieve them from the base of the shower unit. Kitchen had everything you needed, although I never cook on holiday

Thanks for your feedback Carolyne. We’re glad you enjoyed your time at the flat. We have now included a corner shower caddy to store shampoo and soap etc. Property Owner
