  • "Lovely property in a great location."

Lots of room in the house and had everything we needed. Can recommend.

  • "We were very impressed with the property and warm welcome with Christmas tree and decorations, also how well appointed the kitchen was."

However, we had to stop using the walk-in shower in first floor bedroom (above the kitchen) as it was leaking down the wall into the kitchen where the bench seating is. We did notice that it was mentioned in the visitors book in November. Also the knob on the door of the single bedroom kept falling off! The location was excellent and we enjoyed our five nights stay.

fantastic location. I would stay again for sure. Only fault was that the house was very dusty in areas like the headboards.

  • "Not as advertised."

This property is in desperate need of refurbishment. Bathrooms need updating. Mould around bath and showers. Very worn. Dishwasher left blocked with water unusable. Mould around washing machine. No windows would open all closed. Bedrooms need Re decorating. The standard of this cottage is definitely not as you advertised it. Very dissatisfied

  • "Fabulous house but in need of some TLC , good location."

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Only niggles were we were not able to open all windows and felt uncomfortable in case of fire. No clear fire escape .What smoke/carbon monixide alarms were there seemed dated.Bin problem needs sorting. No clear indication of what bin belongs to what property. All bins were full on arrival and we were told by refuse collectors at the end of our stay that they still would not be emptied as they were contaminated.

  • "We have stayed at Albany House many times over the years."

unfortunately we have booked elsewhere next year due to the price hike and the house hasn't had any money spent on it in the past ten years eg same cracked ensuite floor..tatty tiles ..cracked toilet etc. Still lovely Southners will love it.

  • "The house is lovely but a bit tired."

New blinds needed in top floor rooms. Not enough information on which bins were ours. Most of them full. The location is excellent and we didn’t need the cars much. We all loved Whitby and had a fabulous time.

  • "The listing advertised a playroom which was one of the main points we went for this one as we had children with us but upon getting there we found it was blocked off by 2 pieces of wood screwed into the entrance."

We were never imformed of this. The listing also advertised a highchair and a travel cot, the highchair was there but no travel cot so my daughter had to sleep on one of the mattresses on the floor. This was such a shame as this tarnished the holiday. As the above wasnt available can someone please contact me as i think its only fair that i should receive some money back as i paid for something that we couldnt use.

  • "The house is lovely, kitchen well equipped , bed very comfortable."

We had a problem with the main TV and the tumble dryer , both very promptly resolved.. A couple of minor quibbles: - the parking behind the house is very tight , 2 cars of any size would have been almost impossible. - the sitting area is onto the Main Street next door to the chip shop

  • "On the whole we had a wonderful family holiday, Albany house is lovely and met all our needs as an 8 member family!"

Clean, comfortable and ideally situated! Our only negative was that on Thursday night after/during a torrential rain storm we discovered a leak from the loft “ games room” which went through in to the twin bedroom below in several places making one of the beds wet and into the light switch electrics causing a sizzling noise from the switch, hence we dare not use the light or the room for fear of a short and possibly even a fire hazard? We reported it to yourselves at 9am Friday and we’re told someone would be round to assess it! We went out for the day and upon our return hadn’t heard back ,so I phoned again to be told they would look in to what was happening with it and would get back to us!!! Disappointingly we heard nothing at all from any one from Sykes ! The four members of the family on the top floor ended up sleeping in the living room for 2 nights as we were worried because the leak had affected the electrics !! We actually left a bowl and a bucket up there to catch the leaks ! I do not feel this was very good customer service from yourselves as we had no feed back about our problem from you at all, no follow up apology in fact no communication at all!! I just hope the problem was rectified before the nxt family arrived today!!

Some of our party had rust stains on theiir clothes. Other than that the house is very comfortable, great location , well equipped, parking for 2 cars and within easy reach of beach and shops . Our 2nd holiday there, would highly recommend.

  • "This is out 3rd Christmas in Whitby."

House is very spacious and decorated and furnished to high standard The bedrooms and bathrooms were all great with good showers and water pressure Towels and bedding were great. There were some issues with cobwebs, we found hairs on one of the window seats General debris under the microwave, bin needed cleaning and the detergent drawer on the washing machine was quite disgusting and had to be cleansed thoroughly before use. Also the kitchen was a disappointment Its not equipped for family of 8 or 9 The fridge is far too small and had a large ice box taking up all of the room and isnt needed when there is a freezer next to it I would have expected a large larder fridge in a kitchen of this size It was a pain having to go into the utility room all the time to the other spare fridge There isnt much work top space when serving up and cooking I think the kitchen is badly planned and needs an island to increase work space. The grill on the range cooker was useless you can only use the front part of it and the pan kept falling off the shelf if you pushed it too far in and its very small The radio didnt seem to work which wasnt too big a problem as you could get it on the TV Although were lots of pans there there were no serving dishes or large bowls and I had to buy some. The cafetierre leaked all over when pouring. TV in lounge quite small and the stand does not fit the decor and when we tried to use netflix we were unable to as too many other devices (not ours) were logged in. We did enjoy our stay and house is in a good location and very warm and comfortable Parking is a bonus but is very tight (we were warned of this in the info) Just a few niggles and didnt quite make the mark for us. I have put it met expectations as on the whole it did except for the points above.

  • "We love Albany House - we've stayed there many times over the years and it's always so clean, light and welcoming; a real home away from home."

The little touches like providing a welcome bag including milk, tea and coffee means we can walk straight in and make a cuppa - wonderful after a long journey! The facilities provided in the kitchen mean we don't have to bring a car full of equipment to feed a houseful around the enormous kitchen table (the slow cooker is a godsend for a family meal after a day out exploring). Finally the size of the house makes it large enough for our family to to be together but still have their own space, especially with the apartment now available below.

  • "Albany House is absolutely lovely and in a great location."

Well equipped, spacious and comfortable - constant hot water etc. A few minor things have changed since the photos were taken and one of the en-suite loos was out of action for all of our stay. The dishwasher didn’t work for 2 days but was repaired. The kitchen tap dripped/ran constantly and needs to be repaired/replaced - the other niggles were manageable but the dripping was hard to tolerate at times. Aside from the above - it’s a great property and we had a wonderful holiday. We would certainly consider returning to Albany House in the future.
