  • "Parking permit is for a different car park than the one opposite the property (the one opposite is a pay & display, which costs £8 per 24hrs)."

Entrance to the property is at the rear, up 2 sets of curved stairs (may be difficult for some with mobility issues). No tea towels provided - take your own. No welcome package upon arrival due to owners having to shield from Covid - we weren't advised before arrival so do take your own tea, coffee, milk & bread with you.

  • "This is our 2nd stay at Chimneys Cottage in January and we enjoyed another lovely week in Whitby."

We love the Town location as everything is on your doorstep and yet you still have total privacy. The cottage was lovely and warm, we were welcomed with bread, milk and cakes amongst other treats which was really nice when you first arrive. Sarah and Graham are always on hand if you need them, never intrusive and leave you to enjoy your stay. We did quite a bit of walking, mainly along the cinder track. Two good walks are to Robin Hoods Bay which is 7 miles and to Scarborough from Robin Hoods Bay which was 16 miles...it sounded a good idea at the time!!! Will definitely return again and looking forward to using the new power shower should they were having installed as we left.

Luckily most of our group were active and mobile and although Chimneys is a very spacious and well equipped property the only access is via two long twisting flights of stairs and someone with limited mobility would struggle

Chimneys is a Grade 11, historic listed building and although modernised, does have many original features. Guests are advised on arrival not to put anything down the toilet that hasn't been eaten first. Sadly, on the couple of occasions when guest have reported a smell, the owners have found the toilets to be blocked with debris such as sanitary towels and other items that should not be put down the toilet. In regards the stairs. The website clearly states that there are two flights of stairs to the property. These are standard stairs that are found in many cottages and houses in Whitby. The main staircase is wider and less step than a modern staircase, the entry staircase is very unique and part of the listing for the house. Chimneys is not suitable for disabled guests. It should be kept in mind that Whitby is a place of hills and steps, but the staircase is no different to what you would find in any historic house. We have had people of all ages and weights who have had no problem with the stairs at all. Property Owner

  • "We were warmly greeted by the owner of the property who showed us around on our arrival and was very helpful and friendly."

The access to the property was from the rear, up a few flights of rather steep stairs which was a slight negative and should be clearly pointed out in the property description. The apartment is situated in what once was the servants quarters at the top of the house. The four bedrooms were attractive and nicely furnished, as were the other rooms with everything we needed for our stay. The towels were a little on the small side but apart from that we were pleased with the facilities and the two bathrooms were pleasant. The lounge and some of the bedrooms had nice views across Whitby, we could glimpse the Abbey from one of the lounge windows. The kitchen and lounge were tastefully furnished and there was everything we required. We did not cook anything but everything was available if we had wanted to do so. The apartment was expensive and I did raise this with the Sykes team who did not inform us that it was a goth weekend, which we ourselves were not aware of. This somewhat explained that the price was at the very top of the pay structure. It would have been helpful if Sykes could have explained this to us. We could not understand why we were paying double compared to dates a few days before and the Sykes staff just said it was down to supply and demand. I think the staff should be better informed as we had been quite upset, it would have helped us to at least have had all the information. This property is definitely worth a visit but unless you particularly want to visit on one of the four goth weekends avoid those dates and you may find the property is much more affordable. Having said that it was an experience seeing all the amazing costumes but everywhere was very busy and we could not get reservations at some of the best restaurants. Some places struggled and we had cold food at one public house. We still had a great time though.

Many thanks for your feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed the facilities and the lovely views of Whitby. We have passed your comments to the owner for review. Your views are as valuable as your initial booking to us. We are sorry that you were not aware of the events taking place and also that prices can fluctuate. • "We had a great stay at Chimneys over the Easter weekend."

The apartment is so well located with a short walk into whitby and across the road from a beautiful park with a great play area. The apartment was very spacious for us (5 adults and 3 children) and the beds were very comfortable. The owner was very friendly and helpful and I would recommend this apartment without hesitation. I'm sure we will be back!

  • "We had a lovely holiday staying at Chimneys last week."

We were met by Graham on arrival to hand keys over and show us around the accommodation and the welcome pack and bottle of Prosecco was a lovely gesture. The lounge area is very cosy and comfortable with great views of the Abbey. All bedrooms and 2 large bathrooms are excellent. The kitchen is very well equipped to a high standard. Parking is at the local leisure centre and parking permit was provided by Graham. We found the location excellent just a five minute walk down into Whitby.

  • "My partner and I stayed for a week in January at Chimneys and we really enjoyed our visit."

The location is superb with shops, restaurants and pubs on your doorstep. Sarah and Graham who own the property are a lovely couple who live on the ground floor, both are very friendly and helpful whilst respectful of your privacy. We were mainly just two people staying at Chimneys but my brother and son stayed a night as it has 4 big double bedrooms (3 doubles; 1 twin) with good comfortable beds. It’s worth noting that the furthest bedroom has a much firmer mattress which would suit anyone with concerns for their back. The accommodation was always warm and the decor throughout has been carefully thought out to maintain the original character of the property where possible. The lounge is very cosy for nights in and the kitchen great for cooking. Lookout for Sarah’s pictures and note the clever theme. Downsides (although I don’t particularly like the word). The fridge is quite small with just a freezer box and the water pressure in the shower is not very powerful. Would I recommend or book Chimneys again, yes without hesitation.

we had an amazing stay in a beautiful apartment, the pictures don’t show how spacious it is. The views over Whitby are beautiful, you can even see the Abby from the living room window. The apartment was also within walking distance of everything we needed for our long goth weekend. I can’t recommend chimneys enough it’s full of character and charm. The large kitchen is fully fitted out with top quality equipment and is a great social area. There's plenty of room in the comfortably furnished living room too. The landlord and his family live in the floor below and were friendly and hospitable although you have your own private entrance and stairs to your accommodation. We very much hope to return.
