Filey, with its rugged Brigg, offers a five-mile long stretch of unspoilt sandy beach.
The fishing villages of Staithes, Robin Hood’s Bay and Runswick Bay are also delightful.
Don’t forget to travel inland and see the heather-clad moors.
The historic city of York is about an hour’s drive from Whitby – and makes a wonderful day trip. A stay at Clarence House, in this pretty seaside town, is time well spent together.
