The property

A charming fisherman’s-style cottage, two minutes’ walk from the harbour with its fantastic waterfront restaurants where you can dine on superb seafood and watch the world go by.

Whitby’s famous swing bridge allows tall boats to pass into the marina and gives pedestrian access across the River Esk into the charming ‘old town’.

From here, discover cobbled streets lined with antique curio shops, tearooms and the historic Abbey which looms imposingly above Whitby’s pan-tiled rooftops on the East Cliff. The name of this cottage pays homage to Captain Cook’s ‘Endeavour’, the first European ship to sail to Australia and New Zealand in 1768.

Yorkshire-born Cook began his maritime career in Whitby and the ship was built by a Whitby shipbuilder.

A replica of the magnificent ‘Endeavour’ remains on show in Whitby harbour, not far away.

Endeavour Cottage is impressive.

Its three charming bedrooms each have en-suite facilities.

Set over three floors and with an enclosed patio garden, there is plenty of space for guests to relax and feel comfortably at home.

It is an excellent choice for families and couples seeking a central base for a special seaside getaway. The ground floor is wonderfully open plan, with a sitting area that incorporates characterful wooden flooring and a cosy electric woodburner-style stove, plus mod cons such as Freeview Smart TV, DVD and iPod dock. A well-equipped kitchen has an electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and a washing machine.

French doors lead from the dining area to a rear courtyard, where there is additional furniture and a BBQ – perfect for enjoying convivial dining, come rain or shine!

There is a ground floor cloakroom with basin and WC. Moving upstairs, there are two first floor twin bedrooms, one with single beds and an en-suite shower room, the other has comfortable bunks plus an en-suite bathroom with bath, shower over, basin and WC. On the second floor, discover a lovely master double bedroom with en-suite shower room, with basin and WC – guests are spoilt for choice! The enclosed courtyard is a perfect spot to enjoy a cuppa whilst planning what to see next.

The sound of seagulls and the salty sea air is sure to tempt you towards Whitby’s golden sandy beach and plenty of good old-fashioned bucket and spade fun, or perhaps a family walk to Sandsend when the tide is out. Endeavour Cottage boasts the distinct advantage of private parking for one car. When exploring on foot, seek out the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, Whitby Art Gallery or The Dracula Experience (if you dare!).

Spend time in the ‘old town’s’ lovely tearooms over a pot of delicious Yorkshire tea.

There are also ghost walks, historic attractions and plenty of annual events, such as the Goth festival or Regatta. Hop in the car, or take the steam train from Whitby, to discover the North York Moors – beautiful at any time of year, whether heather-clad or verdant.

Scarborough, with its castle, Victorian promenade and charming Peasholm park with boating lake, is approx. 30 mins’ drive south along the heritage coast and makes a lovely day trip. In such a prime location, you can easily enjoy all of Whitby’s many treasures right from your doorstep, with more stunning scenery awaiting discovery.
