  • "The property is of a high standard."

Everything worked. It was very cosy. It was in a great position - right in the mix of things. Loved that. It was definitely worth the money for the time we stayed. It made our stay in Whitby a pleasant and enjoyable experience. I know the cottage is small and space saving ideas were put in place to accommodate this, however, areas for comment: Sink in kitchen could have done with a draining board. Bins in kitchen were difficult to access in a low draw. A washing machine would have been useful. Sinks in bathrooms too small. It would have been good to have parking scratch cards more visible - did not notice these until we were leaving! This is being picky and exacting as the property is a place I would definitely recommend. The list above reflects our preference when staying away from home.

  • "Overall it was lovely, perfectly situated, with a lovely south facing courtyard."

But dirty in places we found, the fridge had lots of crumbs, the drawer with the bins in was quite filthy and under the couch was thick in dust, we got the hoover out but the bag in it needed changing and smelled really bad

I’m so sorry this has happened, I’ll contact Sykes to sort this out Property Owner

It had everything you need - good kitchen equipment, comfy sofa, nice bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms. It's really neatly designed and has lots of gorgeous wooden features (doors, beams, stairs) that look modern but with a nice old character. We stayed in November and this was a lovely base for exploring Whitby and the surrounding coast.

  • "Overall the cottage was really lovely."

However, the settee isn't that comfortable and the dishwasher is too small. It wasn't totally clean. Dirty cutlery had been left in the dishwasher. We also had to clean the plates before use. It was very dirty under the settee, which we found out looking there on the last day when making sure we hadn't left anything behind. The bedrooms and en suites were excellent. Location also was excellent and generally very quiet.

  • "It's a lovely cosy cottage, set right in the middle of beautiful Whitby."

Immaculately clean and the beds are extremely comfortable. It wouldn't really be suitable for someone with limited mobility as the staircase is steep and spiral, you can drop your luggage off at the gateway, but then you need to find a parking spot elsewhere, I suggest the backstreets on the route up to the Abbey, or make use of the parking permit which was provided, a very nice touch. Would highly recommend.

The owners have maximised the space and the outside patio was perfect. The location is brilliant right in the centre of Whitby. Parking is a little tricky but wasn’t a problem just be aware the car may be parked on the other side of Whitby!! But the cottages were there long before cars existed and it’s worth it for the location. The cottage is compact and we were 4 adults and 2 large dogs so it was a bit of a squeeze but it didn’t bother us as we’ve holidayed together for years and we’d definitely go back. Perfect for a family of 4 with a little dog. Whitby itself is a beautiful place with beaches walks history and great shops and restaurants/ pubs. Very friendly locals!! Robin Hoods Bay and Staithes worth a visit if you’re there for a week

Clean and finished to a high standard. It’s in a great location, set back off the main high street in the old town but really quiet and peaceful. The outside area is lovely to sit in. The parking scratch cards are useful. The only inconvenience is the check out time. 10am! That’s super early, especially considering there’s no parking and if you use the scratchcards you’re likely a 15 minute walk from your car. So you are actually out of the house at 9:30, get the car to drive back and pack up. There’s no need to get people out that early on a Sunday!

Our grandchildren love to watch in the evening when we are all relaxing. Also the car parking was at least a mile away from our cottage and we were not prepared to risk anything happening to it, so it stayed in the Church Street car park (at a cost of £36.80). I think consideration should be given to assist with parking nearer to alleviate this problem.

  • "We had a fantastic week in Hagstone Cottage."

We've made some beautiful memories & in the end wished we'd booked 2 weeks! The cottage itself is beautiful, it was very very clean & the fixtures and fittings and accessories were of a high standard. We loved all the 'hagstones' around the cottage & we found some of our own on the beach. Clarks Yard is very pretty & to say its right on town, its set back away from the hustle and bustle so much calmer atmosphere. We enjoyed a glass of wine or 2 in the garden area & chatted to the friendly neighbours. The bed is the most comfortable Ive ever slept on, and I'm usually a terrible sleeper but had some amazing nights sleep during our time in the cottage. We would of liked a TV in the master bedroom, so we did miss that. The top floor shower was amazing too! The wifi was a good strong signal and was needed for streaming TV downstairs. We used our own accounts for Netflix & BBCiplayer & used the account logged into Amazon Fire. Again its a shame there was no dvd/bluray player but we manged fine. The log burner was a bit of a mare, we didnt have much success with it for some reason! There were 3 logs left for us so we bought more & ended up leaving most of them for the next people lol. We couldn't find a pale to put ashes in or shovel & brush to clean it out, so apologies for leaving it full of ash. We ended up just putting candles on it

It would be such a shame for the cleanliness to let this property down as everything else was amazing.
