  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our short but sweet stay in Little Gem."

Everything was spot on, from the facilities provided, to the location - brilliant! I.would recommend highly, in the blink of an eyelid, to anyone contemplating a visit to Whitby. Most certainly we will be back, hopefully to the Little Gem. Regards Jim & Sharon Anderson P.s. We think we left a loaf of bread in the microwave, so sorry. You don’t have to post it back!!

  • "A little gem!"

Spotless, comfortable, and brilliantly located in the centre of Whitby. It's small but perfectly formed, with calming, tasteful decor and clever use of space. Nice to have a sofa downstairs and a micro-sitting room on the first floor - I could do my yoga in the mornings upstairs while hubby listened to his podcast while sipping coffee downstairs. Dog was happy too, with South Sea Park within a minute's walk. Parking was no problem - easy to find a place for the car nearby. Very much enjoyed our stay and we'll be back.

It is a cosy property but surprisingly roomy, there were two adults with two spaniels and it was fine. Everything was spotless and had no problems with anything. Would stay there again

As a diminutive minimalist who enjoys interior design I loved the decor and clever use of space. Even able to do my yoga upstairs while hubby listened to podcast over his coffee downstairs. Perfect!

  • "Lovely little place, but whilst it was clean and modern found it difficult to relax table and chairs tucked away under stairs was no more use than an ornament, stairs to upper bedroom were narrow being 6’7 I had to navigate sideways."

To be fair it’s a nice cottage but space is important after wandering for miles with our dog it’s nice to relax a while and I didn’t get that comfortable , it was a great break in one of our favourite places but sadly wouldn’t return to this property. Hamper was a nice touch though and if I were average size I’d probably enjoyed it more.

Been to Whitby many times and stayed at a Sykes cottage before. This one really deserved its name ‘Little Gem’. Spotlessly clean beautifully furnished comfy bed just lovely. The people who maintain it deserve a medal. Downside got two parking tickets have appealed them and they were my own stupid fault should have looked more closely at the signs. Had wonderful weather and the fish and. Hips as always were excellent. Definitely would book again.

So tastefully decorated someone who’s got an eye for detail. The welcome hamper was a bonus to us. Helped us settle in right away and helped till we got our bearings to find food shop. Even our dog felt at home, and appreciated his time at little Gem. So many places today say no to our fur babies, but I thank the owners for being accepting of our dog and making it possible for us to go and enjoy our holiday with our beloved member of our family. So thank you for making our holiday a much loved one.

  • "Very disappointing stay at Little Gem."

Good location (albeit the parking is difficult we didn’t get within a 15 min on any occasion during our stay) and level of cleanliness but the cottage is extremely small even for only 2 adults with the living space only equivalent to an average size caravan. Handle on fridge came off the first time we opened it and the welcome hamper of Yorkshire goodies turned out to be a packet of biscuits and a pint of milk. We paid over £135 per person per night and the experience we received was not at the level we would expect for that cost.

The shared courtyard wasn't brilliant but once you were inside the cottage, the outside didn't matter. The cottage was very tastefully decorated, set over 3 floors. The kitchen on the ground floor had everything we needed down to cling film, tin foil, bin liners, cleaning items not to mention cooking impliments. The bathroom was on the second floor along with little reading, chill out room and the bedroom was on the third floor. We were very comfortable living in the cottage for 5 days and would definitely return. Whitby is a lovely quaint and interesting town with lots of history, we loved it.
