  • "The engine shed was the perfect spot for exploring Whitby and surrounding areas."

A 2 minute walk into Whitby and you’ll find lots of pubs and restaurants, the bus station is just down the road. The apartment was perfectly equipped and all the furnishings were excellent quality. The on-site car parking just adds to the perfectness of this holiday home.

One point, the joining instructions give a later arrival and earlier leaving time "due to covid". Then in 2 other areas it still shows the usual 3pm and 10am times. It needs to be clearly one or the other.

The accommodation is modern and has everything you'd need. The beds were a little hard but that's personal preference and wouldn't deter us from staying again. We did find a pair of dirty socks left behind from previous people and the sofas could do with a hoover but on the whole, it was a great place to stay. Ample private parking, in the centre of Whitby and the building is well thought out. Looking forward to returning.

Won't be our last either. Love this place. Tucked away from the noise and crowd's at busy times with everything you need. Everywhere was clean, tidy and fresh. A real home from home. House keeping ladies were brilliant and very helpful. Welcome pack plus milk, butters, bread and jam plus fresh flowers were so thoughtful and very useful. Love this place. No real issues with accommodation but just wanted to mention: The bedding and mattress protector do not fit the bed in the main bedroom and I had to make the bed everyday with a sheet that did not fit. Not ideal. The toilet seat in the ensuite bathroom has been put on too far back which did cause issues.

The apartment lived up to everything you said. A perfect location and great fun to open the windows and be so close when the steam train came in. The apartment itself was perfect: absolutely spotlessly clean and with all the facilities you could need, though we didn’t cook or wash clothes! It is also in a great location and has the bonus of parking. The only negative is that we felt it was a bit of a cheek asking for us to strip the beds and put the bedding into a wash bag - this is what you usually expect to be done for you and included in the cost. We have no issue with leaving the place tidy and putting out rubbish but the bedding part seemed a little cheeky.

Only negatives would say is no welcome pack at all and very very noisy from spot on 8am till 5pm with a constant hammering sound. When we asked what the noise was we were told they thought it was construction work from a nearby site. The comfort score is only due to this noise.

Hi, Unfortunately there is some demolition work ongoing at the local NHS hospital and it can be heard during the day time. Clearly this is completely out of our control and is due to complete by this April, it is unfortunate that it was taking place during your stay as in general the Engine Shed is a fairly quiet place to stay. My only criticism is that the team didn’t make the bed in the second bedroom into twin beds, even though we have primary school aged children. The Engine Shed apartments are centrally situated with FREE, SAFE under cover parking. Only a few minutes walk to the town and all Whitby has to offer. 4* hotel standard bedrooms & bathrooms. The accuracy of the detailed listing could be improved. More specific detail about what is and is not provided. The Covid19 preparation felt good, but you could insist that masks are worn in the corridors as there is no ventilation of those spaces. Also, there is an inconsistency over the need to strip the mattress protector on leaving - the email you sent said do, the sheet in the cottage said don't. The sofas look nice but are uncomfortable.

Being close to the centre allowing you to explore on foot but also very quiet. The accommodation has been very well thought out and designed. Secure off road parking for 1 car, each appartment named after a steam engine. Warm, welcoming and comfortable. Fabulous super king beds. Well equipped kitchen and all you would expect from a home from home. Lovely welcome pack which also included bread, butter, selection of jams, Yorkshire tea, coffee and milk. Some flowers and delicious biscuits made in Whitby (We purchased several more packets!!!) Whether you are a steam train enthusiast or not, you cannot fail to be charmed by the daily visits by the steam engines. They are fabulous and literally, right outside the window (the trains do not disturb you, they only run at civilised hours!!) Whitby itself is a lovely town. Very well worth a visit. From the independent shops, cobbled lanes, 199 steps, churches, the Abbey, Dracula stories, the beaches, fossil hunting, boat trips and of course the fish and chips. If you've never been to Whitby, you really should go and stay at the Engine Shed, you won't regret it.

  • "Actually getting into the property at the start of the holiday was a little difficult."

Several guests arrived at the same time and a backlog occurred on the road. People were having difficulty accessing keys from the key safes. Once in the garage no one knew where to park...as each bay was numbered. Subsequently we realised the numbers were those of our apartments, however we had to park up before finding our apartment and discovering it’s number. This seemed to be stressing some of the more mature guests. It would therefore be easier if on the booking info you were told the number of your appartment. However although we parked in the wrong bay all week and no one bothered it would simplify arrival. The plush carpets throughout the building were fabulous....as walkers coming back in muddied up it meant we had to strip off outside and then access the garage to leave our wet muddy boots and over trousers, as we didn’t want to make a mess. We felt wooden flooring inside the foyer would have been more appropriate. But we loved the place and will definitely return.

This is one of the main reasons I booked it as my elderly mother who has Alzheimer's cannot manage stairs. Actually it's not ground floor level. It is LOWER ground floor level. And there are stairs and no lift. My husband and I had to carry my mum down the stairs. We also met an other elderly couple on the stairs. And the gentleman was also struggling with the stairs. They said they also booked their accommodation because it stated ground floor level. This needs to be looked into. Having said all that. The apartments are superbly furnished and no aspect has been overlooked, and broadband in each apartment which is not shared is an added bonus. The railway theme is a perfect nod to the building's historic past, and helped by a few pictures and other railway items on the walls. The location is a no more few minutes walk from the town, bus station, restaurants and the harbour, so very convenient if you prefer to eat out. Secure car parking is a plus too.
