"The stairs to the top bedroom are very narrow and to navigate them at night when needing the toilet my friend slipped."
Is there a way to have a toilet in the top bedroom as you have a bath in the room. We enjoyed our stay and we were well looked after by owner who put a touch for us to use because the weather had done damage to the roof.

Fabulous stay in a fantastic property everything promised was delivered perfect location and would definitely stay again if visiting whitby again
"Love the nautical theme throughout the property, great position for the harbour and old town, having parking permit is a great help."
Loved the roll top bath for relaxing after a day of walking and sightseeing …overall a great little place .
"Great location for the town, close to pubs, restaurants and local amenities."
Parking scratch cards an excellent idea, although the traffic wardens are particularly vigilant so need to ensure correct completion of the card and watch out for any local temporary parking restrictions when you park up! Apartment well appointed with everything you need, however lots of steps which could be difficult if you have mobility issues. Welcome pack a nice touch and much appreciated!
"Great communication from owner."
Property was ready before check in time. Very clean and well equipped. Great location right in the heart of Whitby. Provided parking permits which were essential and appreciated. Really lovely property with everything you need. Couple of things to mention: cooker was a bit of a nightmare (halogen) to cook on - but maybe just because we’re used to gas. Double bed in attic was really uncomfortable and a little noisy due to pub and seagulls! But you expect that due to the central location. Regardless of that, we had a lovely stay and would book again in the future. Would recommend to others. Thank you for a lovely stay.
"Overall at first glances lovely apartment."
Then when you look abit closer not quite as luxurious as you first think. Cupboard doors damaged on washing machine door meaning it didn't close properly and other doors not great.maybe abit too cluttered in the cupboards meaning nowhere to put your food for the week other than in the cupboard where the fusebox was.Pub over the road very noisy till 1am on the Saturday with music. People fighting outside during the week, we wouldn't pick to come here again as was too noisy. Bed was really uncomfortable. Open coil mattress not really the type of quality that I would expect for the money paid. Unfortunately not a good stay, left looking forward to getting home.
Thank-you for your feedback. We strive to maintain a high standard with Sea Shanty and as you can see from our reviews, ratings and comments, many, many guests think the same and have extremely comfortable and pleasant stays, returning several times throughout the year. I have checked the washing machine cupboard door, it is slightly ajar, by millimetres, due to a small stopper on it to prevent the door from knocking the machine buttons. Guests comment on how comfortable the beds are, including several guests following your visit. Sea Shanty is in a prime town centre position, with restaurants, shops and the beach all within walking distance which is why Sea Shanty is so popular. Property Owner
"Fabulous property, everything to you need, and so close to bars, restaurant etc."
Excellent apartment, have been twice and will be going again.
"Excelent place and location well recomended"
"We really enjoyed our stay at the Sea Shanty and when we read the visitors' book we found a load of other people would agreed with us."
The apartment is first class and well located for the places we visited.
Very clean. Centrally located in Whitby
.lots of stairs but great views from the lower floor bedroom and lovely loft room ..great location for the harbour
"Beautifully decorated and maintained and perfect location."
We wish we could have stayed forever. Stunning views from all of the front facing windows of the Abbey and harbour. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Great location, lovely welcome pack and lots of information. Very comfy, lots of space, great bathroom and quite an wonderful unexpected view from the top bedroom velum windows. It’s a bit steep to the top bedroom but what a lovely bedroom! Highly recommended.
"It was a great place, very well presented and welcoming."
The kids loved having a TV in their room! Well situated and parking permits provided. Thank you
"Fabulous property, exactly what it said."
Welcome pack & parking voucher were great addition. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, have booked again for next year already.
"I had a lovely week at the apartment, which was beautifully equipped and furnished."
Central location was handy for all amenities, but quiet at the same time. Getting access was straightforward, there was plenty of information about the apartment, the town and the surrounding area, all useful. And the welcome pack was a great touch! Hope to come back soon.
"We had a fabulous time in the most lovely place and the apartment was absolutely amazing - would definitely go here again, we loved all the seaside touches."
"The apartment is up a lot of stairs"
"“Sea Shanty” is an amazing Apartment set into the Center of beautiful Whitby."
Clean, well equipped and homely. Would totally recommend to anyone and everyone who has NO mobility issues. People WITH Mobility issues should be made aware of the Steep Stairway from front door to Apartment entrance followed by a second flight of stairs to living area and bedroom. The steep narrow twisting-stairway (as advertised), leading you to the top bedroom is taken at your own peril lol. No toilet on this floor adds to this bedroom being unsuitable for restricted mobility guests. One last heads up, for us “not so mobile”, is the Parking situation. I’m afraid it’s a “drop off” for us folk and potluck trying to find a Parking space for the other half lol. The owner did kindly leave parking permits which were greatly appreciated. All in All. “Sea Shanty” is wonderful and would totally recommend . Ground floor it is for me next time.
"A beautiful apartment."
Clean and perfectly equipped. Little, thoughtful extras added.
Lovely clean apartment. Owners have thought of everything. Totally relaxed and barely left Whitby all week apart from on foot. Would definitely recommend.
"Excellent accommodation, great location"
"A lovely clean apartment, situated in a central location."
Nice touches from the owners with chocolate and wine on arrival, also free parking permits. I would recommend the Sea Shanty.
"A fantastic week at The Sea Shanty Whitby."
Brilliant position, a real cosy home from home with everything you could possibly need and a lovely friendly welcome from owner Lindsay. Felt really safe in these Covid times, and the ability to self cater when many local businesses were closed was invaluable. Can’t wait to return and explore even more of stunning Whitby and North Yorkshire coastline
"Sea Shanty is located right behind the sea front shops, there is a lovely view of the harbour and Abbey from the property yet being so close to the huddle and Brussel it is lovely and quiet."
The apartment is clean ,tidy and spacious, well equipped for all your needs. During our stay we had some very wet and windy days but it was really warm and inviting after braving the elements outside. We were made to feel welcome and right at home with the wine, chocolates and welcome box of coffee, tea ,hot chocolate and biscuits, a really nice touch after a long journey over the Moors in bad weather. Lots to do and see in and close to town. Superb restaurants. We had worried about parking, the owner had left parking permits for us meaning a big saving on car park charges (all those pound coins we collected over previous week's weren't needed!) We would recommend Sea Shanty to all, with the exception of anyone who has difficulty with stairs. The owner was easily contactable and friendly and should be proud of her presentation of such a smashing homely property.
"The only thing we saw as a problem, was having to go down stairs to the bathroom, everything else was brilliant."
"Our group all loved sea Shanty, it was in a great location right in the heart of Whitby."
The apartment was equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay like a home from home. Fixtures and fittings were really good too. Not suitable for people with mobility problems as there are lots of stairs but that wasn’t a problem for us. Fantastic place to stay!
"Very well presented apartment, lovely attic room and comfortable beds."
We are grateful for the welcome pack as well! As a town Whitby Is a beautiful town but was busier than expected and the apartment did look out over a pub, but there was no noise or disruption other than the gulls ! The Abbey was fantastic and we enjoyed a wonderful walk along the coast to Robin Hood Bay. Certainly worth a visit !
"Brilliant location in the centre of Whitby."
Clean and comfortable. Everything you needed was provided. Would definitely use Sea Shanty again. Wine and chocs when we arrived was a bonus!
"The stairs into the actual property are steep and not suitable at all if you ..."
The stairs into the actual property are steep and not suitable at all if you have a pram or buggy the location although good was also perched round a very busy corner where lorrys cars bikes pedestrians etc passed in the property there is too much furniture that's made of glass no good for a 2 year old was nervous wreck all week not suitable for a family at all with young children
"We really enjoyed our stay at Sea Shanty."
It was very clean, comfortable and well equipped, with lots of little extras like big cozy towels and bluetooth speakers, not to mention the lovely welcome bottle of wine, that made it that bit extra special. Would definitely come stay again!
"Loved our time in Sea Shanty, lovely apartment very clean and had everything you ..."
Loved our time in Sea Shanty, lovely apartment very clean and had everything you could need, the welcome pack was the icing on the cake we would thoroughly recommend, the only problem for us was the stairs two flights and we had a person with mobility problems
"Lindsay who owns the cottage has a very welcoming manner."
A lovely person and responsive to any needs that arise. The cottage is very luxurious and comfortable and well maintained. Everything you need is there it's a very cosy stay. We loved it. Right in the centre of Whitby. Everything is on the door step. It overlooks the harbour from the front and 199 steps from top bedroom. And Lindsay left wine and chocolates when we first arrived which was such a lovely welcome and surprise. We highly recommend Sea Shanty. A beautiful seaside cottage.
"A really lovely and comfortable place to stay in the heart of the town."
The owner was great with communication and info. I would definitely recommend this booking, and will probably be booking again some time next year.
"The owner is very friendly and helpful."

"Position, amenities, comfort and ease of use make this a great rental."
"We really enjoyed our stay at Sea Shanty."
The apartment was lovely. Clean, nicely decorated, beds very comfortable and everything catered for. The owner was friendly and very communicative via text. Set in a really good position only 5 minutes walk to the train station and right next to the harbour! We would definitely stay again.
"Loved the accommodation ,the owners were really helpful and most accommodating ,will defiantly be back"
"Great location near harbour."
Roll top bath was an added bonus for relaxing in at the end of day.Parking permits were very useful.clear information and instructions provided by owners. Steps to top bedroom are steep and not suitable for less mobile.
"Sea Shanty is a stylishly furnished and comfortable apartment in the centre of Whitby and close to the beach and amenities."
The kitchen was well equipped and the small coffee machine was a nice extra. Plenty of hot water and WiFi for four of us. Everything worked well while we were there and the communication from the owner was very helpful. We enjoyed eating out - lunch at the café with secret seaview in Robin Hoods Bay, and great seafood at Abbey Wharf and at The Moon and Sixpence which is close to the apartment. The street was bustling on arrival and there were directions to a suitable place to park while unloading. Parking permits and disc zone cards provided - the permit area is large and was busiest on Saturday, we could find a space near the start of the zone by the beach/front most days. There is a nice shop on the way to the Abbey Steps for bath treats!
"Great location, comfortable beds and spacious."
All we needed for our short break.
"A truly stunning place to stay, all the facilities were first class and that bath ..."
A truly stunning place to stay, all the facilities were first class and that bath was the cherry on top, can't recommend it highly enough
"Couldn't fault the accommodation, the location, the facilities or reception."
A lovely place to stay and somewhere I will certainly be returning to. Everything went very smoothly and everyone concerned was both helpful an efficient. Even the weather was great, which for Whitby in February, was definitely a surprise.
