  • "Lovely cosy little apartment - excellent location for exploring Whitby as its only a co, added bonus it has its own parking space (which was easy enough to access if you follow directions on the email and reverse down the street opposite) We stayed in December, the apartment was warm and comfy and had everything we needed for the two of us."

  • "A very comfortable and convenient place to stay."

Our only gripe was the people above sounded like they were dragging furniture about during the night!! It woke us up several times. The TV needs some instruction on both units as difficult to operate. An extra blanket/throw would have been useful as one if us is an insomniac. Parking was not a problem - we have a short wheelbase Transit Custom and just fit nicely in the parking space by backing down the road opposite as instructed.

  • "We had a great stay at the Counting House and would definitely use it again."

Just for reference in order to park the best idea is to reverse down and drive up through the street opposite. We sadly hit our car on the first day trying to reverse in. All in all a great spot to stay away from the crowds and so near to all the main places to visit. The sunsets are fabulous too. We will be back to stay again!

  • "Lovely property not far from the sea front."

You don't need a large car if you want to park next to the building. The shower was a bit small for my husband as its got a slanted roof. Had to phone about the boiler but the owner was very helpful. Would stay there again.

The location is perfect for seeing all things Whitby. The parking was tight but managed perfectly well, we have a Kia Sorento so not small. Highly recommend Silver street fish shop.

  • "This property is ideally situated for the town and harbour."

The house is very well equipped, everything you need is there. We were made aware of the parking but my husband is an excellent driver he coped very well. That said we have a Ford Fiesta and it just about fitted the space. There is a big drop immediately behind the space and nothing to stop you going over it if you're not careful. Maybe some sort of barrier would help less confident drivers. Overall 5* rating in a fantastic town.

Parking was vey awkward to access - would be impossible for a large car. No place to sit outside - but otherwise comfortable, reasonably well-equipped and very convenient location.

We have just returned from our week stay at the counting house, the cottage is so cute and cosy, just the right size for a couple,, with everything you need in there, the bed was lovely and comfortable also and only a short walk from the Whitby town centre, and with a parking space included, it was a bit daunting at first as you have to reverse down Clarkson Street to the parking space at the side of the cottage, but plenty of room no problems, can't wait to return,

Great location, close to shops, pubs and the seafront. As has already been said before, the parking space is a little tricky to get to but once you know the layout of the town, it's not a problem.

  • "Cottage was excellent in every way."

Only comment would be about the parking, which MUST be better explained on the website and in the cottage. If you are not a confident driver, you might need to find somewhere else to park your car. My biggest issue is with Sykes. I have used them multiple times and have two more cottages booked this year. However, we tried to extend our stay by a night in Whitby and was told it would be £55, which seemed excessive. However, we went with it. When checking payment had gone through later, I realised that of the £55, £25 was for the cottage and £30 was for admin charges. Completely ridiculous and nothing short of a rip off. I complained and explained I wasn't told at time of booking, so was therefore given a refund. This needs to be reviewed by Sykes, as there is simply no justification for charging more in admin than for the cost of the property. It would certainly put me off booking again.

More information would be helpful regarding rubbish , which bin for what and where to put bin and when for it to be emptied as the one bin was full when we arrived . The property was good for location and had everything you would need for a weeks stay. We would defiantly stay again at The Counting House.

  • "The parking notes recommend you REVERSE into the space down the street opposite (Clarkson Steet)."

..make sure you do. I went in forwards with my Octavia Estate and because there is a drainage dip before the parking spot scraped the bottom of the front skirt on the ground. Cottage wonderfully placed for a holiday in Whitby...we did 3 nine mile walks from the front door leaving the car parked. Recommend the Silver Street Fish and chips virtually next door and Rusty Shears almost as close. The cottage surprised us as there was NO corkscrew/bottle opener or can opener. In over twenty years of renting 2 or 3 properties each year we've never met that before. Smart TV worked well and we could avoid the dross now served up on live TV.

Lovely little property in a good location with the added bonus of a parking space. The bed was comfortable, everything was lovely and clean . Shower was very good plenty of power to it. Did not expect much when the description said to bring your own tea towels , but the kitchen was fully equipped with everything you would need for a short stay i.e. cleaning products , cling film , tea towels etc. . There's also a hairdryer , iron and ironing board in the dressing room . Had a lovely stay there and would not hesitate to stay again .

Facilities very clean and cottage very spacious. The only downside was the parking, which was fairly difficult down a very narrow street which unfortunately had a motorbike parked on it during our stay, making it difficult to get in and out. Be aware the parking space was snug for a ford fiesta. The actual cottage itself was beautiful and very modern. Would definitely stay again.
