  • "Fantastic property."

    We adored our stay at 11 Church Street. Beautiful listed period house and had maximum comfort and everything we could possibly need. Beds and sofa very comfortable and house warm and great shower. The location is fabulous being right on the marina. No noise or annoyance from boatyard in fact it was an additional joy to watch what was happening. Double glazed bedroom windows and son delighted that he could see Whitby Museum. 5- 8 minutes walk from everything and no need to bring a car as the train arrivals and coach arrivals into whitby are very scenic and very easy to jump on a bus to anywhere. We did Staiths and RobinsHood Bay £2 ride every 30 minutes upto late at night. Supermarket also within 10 minutes walk. Hope we will return and will book 11 Church Street for sure. Loved it. The standard of house actually surpassed our expectations and attention to detail in kitchenware and textiles was appreciated.

  • "We loved the house."

    It was clean, quiet, and had everything we needed. The open staircase made the downstairs feel really spacious. I loved the Georgian style of the building. We enjoyed playing Cluedo and doing the jigsaw puzzles, as well as all the obvious enticements of Whitby

  • "A lovely cottage that we were delighted to stay in for 5 nights."

    Parking was a bit of an issue but it was half term, and we always got a space, even if we had to drive up and down the road a few times! The marina over the road wasn't an issue, we thought there may be a lot of noise from it but that wasn't the case at all. A lovely shower, which is always a bonus, and a dishwasher and washer-dryer were very handy for us. Well equipped and a few minutes' walk from everything in Whitby. We'll be back!

  • "Cutlery drawer needs signposting a bit better, took a while to find it."

    Bedroom needs a tv. Lounge tv needs updating. Too hard to figure out how to work it. Bed was very comfortable, cottage was very nice and clean. Very well equipped kitchen,had everything needed for an enjoyable stay. Five minute stroll into town, reasonably priced pubs and restaurants. We would definitely stay here again.9/10.

  • "Not the most luxurious accomodation but on value for money 10 out of ten."

    Lovely cottage in a perfect area for sightseeing, the only drawback was parking, once we had found a perfect spot did not dare move the vehicle. Facilities and cleanliness could not have been better.

  • "We were given wrong code box had to caretaker who we had to wait 20 minutes to arrive she couldn’t get access either rang someone else and finally got correct code , didn’t even apologise for mix up."

    . There was no welcome pack not even milk , instructions for leaving asked us to strip bed and put in black bag- no black bags provided. The bed in main bed room was rock hard came home early with bad back will not be booking that house again.

    Dear Mrs Greenwood, I am sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay. In regards to the issue of access, Sykes have the right key code as I had checked with them prior to your stay. I understand the housekeeper kindly let you in early, (prior to 3pm ), therefore you were still in the cottage ahead of time. I do apologise for there being no welcome pack with milk, this is usually in place for guests and I have spoken to those that provide it. The black bag issue has also been addressed and again apologies for this. I understand you were upset at the parking. Almost all the properties along Church St have no parking. It does state this on the information for the cottage on the website along with information on car parks locally. We have exactly the same issue when we visit. I am sorry you found the bed uncomfortable. The mattress is new and firm but has a mattress topper in place also, so I would suggest it is medium/firm. The cottage is as described and provides comfortable accommodation within an 18th century dwelling. Again I am sorry you did not find it to your taste. Property Owner

  • "It was nice and clean and very warm with the heating on for this time of year it was the 27th of January, The only thing I could say as a negative would be the noise from outside but to be honest it didn't really bother us two much."

  • "There is a boat building yard directly opposite the propery, obscuring views of the harbour."

    It can be very noisy from 8am until 6pm and can still ne heard with doors and windows shut. As the house is only a couple of feet from the road, and the road is narrow, it is virtually on the doorstep. This also makes parking to unload the car quite tricky as it is a busy road. I reslly do think your advertising should mention this. It is also a very dark house unless the sun is out in the afternoon. Fair enough, it's an old propery, but the photos used in your advertising show brightly lit rooms. I'm partially-sighted and good lighting is essential for me. Brighter/more lights? There is a faint smell of gas from the fire in the sitting room. Otherwise it's an excellently placed property for exploring Whitby, which we loved.

    Dear Mrs Matthews I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay. Yes it is an old property Georgian in fact.The boat yard has also been there many years and is as much an institution as many other Whitby landmarks. Unfortunately boat building can at times be noisy. The description on the website does mention parking difficulties. Whitby is a beautiful place. The town and harbour still retaining their charm. As such all the properties for holiday rental along church street are on the pavement close to the road. I accept that the lounge can be a little dark due to its position at street level but there is plenty of electric lighting if needed. The bedrooms are flooded with natural light. I note you felt you detected a faint smell of gas from the living room fire. We did not detect this on our stay on the 12th august. I wish to reassure you that both the fire and boiler received a clean bill of health and issued certificate on the 9.4.19. Kind regards Andrea Property Owner

  • "Off road Car parking has not been described properly plus there’s been a road been ongoing from start of July2019 which going to last till March2020, has to park my car more than half mile away with £9 charge per24 hours."

    Struggle to find the keys for the property. Raised the issues with booking company regarding the parking problem, been told to sorted out the parking charges,no help.Overall experience is bad, specially when you -are travelling with your kids and struggle to use of your own car.

    Dear guests. I am sorry your trip was not as you hoped. Sadly the parking is beyond my control and we were unaware of the new developments whilst the much needed flood barriers are being completed. Parking is described as roadside and as such is always subject to availability. This is true for all properties along this road and those closest to the town. However, I appreciate after a long drive with children this is an issue. We will describe parking and alternatives to reflect this on advert and in advice given if speaking to Sykes in future. Re keysafe, sorry if you found it difficult to locate but not seen as problem previously. We have checked to ensure keysafe working properly and it is. However, we will look at how this is communicated when booking and instructions for key given. Many thanks for feed back. Property Owner
