  • "In a stunning location and very comfortable."

Can’t give 5 stars though as, incredibly, it did not have anything to make coffee with, not even a simple cafetiere. Also no scissors in kitchen. And only having one key was an inconvenience. Why does the owner not charge a refundable £20 in case a key is lost? We struggled and there were just the 2 of us as we are not joined at the hip. How 6 adults would cope is beyond me. Given how prices have had to increase due to COVID and the demand of staycationers you would expect in such a price bracket to be able to enjoy a coffee in the morning.

Very modern, well equipped (although, can I suggest a better can opener?). Handy for a walk up to the Abbey and into the town. Lovely.

  • "Fabulous apartment."

Comfortable beds. Lovely views. Only setback was the dreadful settee. Very well worn and totally uncomfortable and it was the only furniture in the lounge except for the dining table and chairs. Apartment needs a couple of good armchairs and a new settee. We all spent most of our time, while indoors, in our separate bedrooms sitting on the beds propped up by pillows when we needed to rest after a few hours walking and exploring. A good twenty minutes walk into the town. Nevertheless we all had a very good time and loved Whitby.

  • "We had a wonderful week in this apartment."

It was extremely clean, well presented and in an excellent location for exploring Whitby and the surrounding area. The view from the lounge window was lovely and we enjoyed watching the steam train coming and going. This is a great place and we would happily return if we come back to Whitby in the future.

  • "1. When we arrived the smell from the communal bin area was terrible - the cleaner expressed surprise that they had not been emptied."

They remained overflowing but were not emptied until we had been there for 5 days! 2. Although you told us that we had to leave by 10am there was a handwritten note (unsigned) in the kitchen informing us that we had to leave by 9am on the day of departure. That was very difficult especially as we had a small baby and a three year old with us. 3. When we tried to use the shower in the en-suite the water was scalding hot and the shower thermostat didn't work.....we could only use it by turning it on to a very slow flow. I immediately reported it to the owner who just blamed the installation of a new hot water tank and didn't offer to send anyone round to fix it. Funnily the shower thermostat in the main bathroom was fine so it was obviously nothing to do with the explanation given. 4.Half the toaster doesn't work - I noticed a comment on trip advisor from 2018 saying the same think so why not just replace it? 5. The 2 settees in the living room were completely worn out and very uncomfortable - you could feel the wooden frame of the carcass wherever you sat. They obviously needed replacing some time ago. 6. Only one set of keys were provided - which for an apartment catering for six people was totally inadequate. I did ask the cleaner why this was and she just said there used to be more but guests just kept losing them.

    1) The communal rubbish bins (which are on the ground floor, within a locked room), are emptied on a weekly basis by Scarborough Borough Council. 2) 10AM is the leaving time on the day of departure. 3) The faulty shower thermostat was replaced the following weekend. 4) The 4-slice toaster was confirmed to be working correctly. 5) We will replace the two settees over the winter when we do our annual refurbishment. 6) We agree that a spare set of keys would be ideal, but after having multiple second sets go missing, they are no longer supplied. The apartment key safe can be used by guests to help with this issue. Property Owner

  • "Very nice spacious apartment."

Worked well for us as we had an older member of our family with us - lift and fairly flat walk into Whitby. The few down sides we found were that the plumbing was noisy, so no flushing the loo in the night, squeaky doors and there is no heating in the smallest bedroom - the heater has been taken off the wall. My mother-in-law did't find it too cold, but we had by chance taken a fleece blanket with us, so she used that on the bed. None of this spoiled our break, and we would use the apartment again, for the space, view and location.

  • "The kitchen was a bit short of utensils and cutlery."

Only observation. View across river to steam trains kept grandchild happy. A nice little playground was a bonus too. Being on the third floor was no problem...the lift was excellent. A quiet location. General comment. We have decided not to consider Friday properties in future...we are finding travelling Friday a problem. It means either taking an extra day off work to make a week. Or leaving after work when the traffic is horrendous.

  • "The accommodation at 8, Richardson Court was absolutely wonderful!"

The beds were really clean and soft and the whole place felt very clean and welcoming. The view from the lounge window is fantastic - you even see a steam train go past regularly which is so charming. The location is fabulous and there’s a courtyard on the estate where you can enjoy a wonderful view of Whitby! Walking into Whitby takes about 10 minutes but it’s also relatively easy to drive out to other locations such as Robin Hood’s Bay or Staithes. Also, despite it being in a block of apartments, I was never troubled by any noise from apartments above or below. Another lovely touch was the board games and children’s books left for guests to enjoy. Great apartment - highly recommend and thank you Sykes cottages!

The added bonus was the allocated car parking space directly underneath. The facilities within the apartment were everything you would need plus the added touches of games and toys. I booked for a week's stay but due to sudden unforseen circumstances could not stay for the full week. Sykes liaised with the owner on my behalf which enabled my family to still enjoy a couple of days break. I would definitely use Sykes again and would highly recommend to others... I would look to stay at the same apartment if returning to Whitby and again would have no hesitation in recommending this to others. My family really enjoyed the break and were sorry to leave.

Lovely views form the living room, clean and comfortable. Only minor quibble would be that we were only provided with 1 set of keys, and could have done with a second sent at a couple of points of our stay. Overall excellent.

However , pots and pans weren't clean and had been put away dirty and damaged. An extra key would have been useful given it sleeps 6. Sleeping arrangements . Single beds too short and narrow with footboard on and really did not sleep very well!!! More suitable for Children. Apart from these minor points we had a fab week and the accommodation was Clark and comfortable. 4 adults shared , may suggest that the layout changes to 2 doubles and 2 single beds. Plenty hot water , Mira type shower would be better than trickle from the electric showers. In brochure should mention proximity to road bridge behind property , noisey at times for people sleeping at year of property . Car parking good , lots of headroom . Steve
