  • "We had a fantastic time at the Airy hill cottage, there was 9 adults and 2 children, would definitely recommend this property it had everything you needed in a home for a large group."

A 10 min walk into Whitby, we also visited robin hoods bay which is so beautiful, falling foss was also a great place to visit with great walks and view's of a waterfall, also Goathland and obviously the Whitby Abby.

Plenty of room for 10 adults and two dogs. It was a bonus to be able to walk into Whitby centre. The cottage is well equipped and very comfortable.

  • "This was just the perfect place to celebrate my 70th birthday with all my family."

It was spacious, comfortable and extremely well equipped. The bedrooms were great, and so many of them! There were 9 of us, including 2 children, and everyone was very comfortable. We loved the long dining table, and we appreciated the Christmas decorations very much. We were in festive party mode from the moment everyone arrived on the Friday evening. With so many of us we appreciated the extra fridge in the utility room. I could not fault the accommodation in any way.

  • "We love this house and this is the 3rd time we have stayed here."

It is spacious with plenty of parking and not too far out of town. We like the new downstairs room which is handy if you don't like the stairs. A couple of things would be nice - bigger towels - lots more cost hangers suitable for adult clothing not children's ones. One of the settees is not very comfortable - the conservatory needs some maintenance and a coat of paint!. The old outside furniture needs painting or removing and the back door will not lock from the outside so we had to lock it from the inside and go out the front door - this does need addressing asap. A tumble dryer would also be useful so you can wash and dry the towels as half way through the week they did smell a bit damp. We still love the house and will come back but a bit of TLC would be good. All in all we had a great week and were blessed with good weather and Whitby is still one of our favourite places. A visit to FallingFoss tea room is a must and a scone and cup of tea at Hammonds tea room also worth a visit.

  • "The property is lovely and spacious and overall we enjoyed our holiday."

The cottage is situated in a nice quiet area. My husband and and I loved the downstairs bedroom with ensuite. There is a shortcut into Whitby, but be aware there is a steep slope to go up. A very large field is accessible with beautiful views of the Abbey. The garden is not secure for dogs as there is a gap in the trees. The back garden was dirty and the furniture was covered in cobwebs and insects and there are no cushions for the seats. My family was a party of 10 and it states there is a barbecue, however, you can cook for 2 people, so we didn't bother due to it being too small and the condition of the garden. The bottom oven does not get hot and worst of all one if the double beds has a hard mattress and creaks as soon as you move. I paid for the cottage as my family could not afford to go away and my son and his wife had no bed and slept on the L shaped settee after the first night. There was no welcome pack or instructions on how to use appliances. Fortunately we have visited Whitby a few times and knew where to visit, but it would have been nice to have information or comments from other guests about other places to visit.

  • "We had a few problems finding this property - the postcode given on the property details is different from the one it says to use for satnav directions and of course, we managed to use the wrong one!"

Cue driving hither and yon in a torrential downpour until we eventually read the instructions properly and manage to find the right turn off. The turn off is signposted "Whitby Sixth Form" and you need to go right up to the school grounds before turning off into Airy Hill Caravan Park and cottages. You then need to drive up what looks like another cottage's drive way before realising you are actually in the right place. The parking spaces are all labelled clearly, which is helpful but I think it would be quite tight if you had more than 2 cars to park if the 2 spaces for another cottage are being used (luckily not the case for us). The property itself is spacious, clean and well equipped, part of a complex of several other holiday properties. Plenty of room for our party of 4 adults and two small children. Minor quibbles are that there is no opening window for the two dormer bedrooms and this made them quite stuffy, although keeping the doors open during the day did make a difference. The bath(there is only one) is also quite slippery with no handles to hold, even with the non-slip mats in the bottom, so care needs to be taken there. The downstairs bedroom was only used for the shower but was very spacious and set up well for anyone who has mobility problems. The wooden cot was much appreciated by our youngest grandchild, with a mattress supplied, and the wooden highchair was very sturdy. We had a minor issue with the dishwasher (tablets supplied) and the owner offered to visit to look at it (we solved the problem so a visit was not necessary) - it was nice to have a quick reply and help offered. As mentioned by other users, not a great number of toilet rolls supplied but I had brought plenty with me. The handwash supplied for the sinks is rather thin but again, I had brought my own. The enclosed garden was great for the children to play in and only a short drive to the beach or town centre. All in all, a great holiday property.

Great for morning and evening walks with the dog with lovely views of Whitby, walking to the viaduct is highly recommended. Lots of space for our party of 10 adults and a child. The ground floor bedroom was ideal for my parents with mobility issues. The kitchen was small but had plenty of crockery and utensils. Comfortable nights sleep, even though a couple of the beds were a bit squeaky. Plenty of bathrooms/toilets, but more than 1 toilet roll would have been appreciated, especially as arriving just before a bank holiday. A lovely place to stay

The accommodation was right for what we needed and we would recommend it to friends. The Shower Room at the top of the stairs for the twin room had very little pressure. The tin opener could do to be replaced as it was very difficult to open tins. An additional small pan would have been useful and also a pint jug for making custard and gravy. All in all the property was very good.

The only things we found that could be an improvement was a few more kitchen utensils like a sieve a few smaller pans. The central heating in the bedrooms were very welcome, but the group did get cold downstairs, underfloor heating does not warm the rooms, if the week had not warmed up slightly and was still at minus degrees the cottage downstairs would have been freezing.

! Not ideal for my 80 year old mum. The lady I spoke to was quite rude. There was no remote control for the larger TV but not really an issue for us. Nice clean bathrooms and well equipped.

Hi, I am glad you found the cottage spacious enough for your needs. I am sorry you found whoever you spoke to rude. When you booked the downstairs room hadn't been completed, wasn't advetised and therefore wasn't included in the price. You booked on the basis of 5 upstairs bedrooms. Those who booked later obviously paid extra for the room. If your party size or the needs of your party had changed after you booked, a phone call and the extra payment would have sorted it out. kind regards Rebecca Property Owner

  • "Hi we have stayed several times at Airey Hill cottages (Kingfisher & Mallard) and found them delightful although getting rather tired now."

This is the first time staying at the farm cottage which sleeps 9 and we took two small dogs, a sign reminded us to clear up the dog faeces but found the previous occupants had not and there must have been at least 10 lots to clear up before we had got settled in and there were holes in the fencing which our dog found instantly. With room for three couples there is only one key in the key safe and that one key services both front and back doors The patio area had not been power washed for many months. There is a small border at the front of the property in which the weeds were chest height and the windows had not been cleaned for weeks. There is also a step approx 3” into the small lounge from the kitchen and my wife tripped on it three times bruising her arm on the door handle We thought the cost of the rental for two nights was very expensive at £1100 considering we could not enter the property until 4pm on Saturday and had to vacate the property by 9am on the Monday morning. This was the first time the family had been on holiday since the COVID virus started and we enjoyed our short break together but the above points somewhat marred our stay in beautiful Whitby.

Since the photographs used to advertise the accommodation were taken several years ago the garden has become some what overgrown being surrounded with a fifteen foot hedge in need of trimming/cutting. Hidden among the shrubs was a built in barbecue and the outside area was in need of a good tidy up. Inside the accommodation was fine but lacked the quality and finishing touches we have become to expect from a Sykes Cottage property. The cottage was spacious enough for two families, having the two separate lounge areas. Also the conservatory was a bonus where we enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and reading etc. The cottage was well equipped with everything we could possibly need and more. We were all thoroughly pleased with the accommodation and we would highly recommend this to others. We would also consider booking this cottage again at some time in the future. Our English Springer Spaniel, Molly, had a wonderful time playing ball in the garden area and spent most of her days out there waiting for each one of us to play ball with her. The views were lovely from our bedroom (the bedroom with en-suite). The only thing I would say is that the en-suite door needs attention as when I opened the window in the en-suite, the door slammed and I was locked in as the door catch doesn't completely open when you pull the handle down. Fortunately my daughter was in the bedroom and was able to let me out. Also the step from the lounge by the utility area into the kitchen; we took it in turns to forget it was there and kept falling down it; but these are only minor things that require a bit of attention. The cottage is absolutely fantastic and we all had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday there (seven of us in total and the dog). The Hodgkinson Family Birmingham
