  • "Farmhouse was clean, beds comfortable, plenty of hot water, good position with a short ten minute walk into Whitby."

Unfortunately, it had rather an unkempt feeling. Patio had not been swept and had cigarette ends. Garden area clearly hadn’t been tended for a long time and was full of weeds, though someone planted a few pansies in a tub while we were there. The recycling bin was full when we arrived. No outside lighting at the front door so if you arrive at night you will need a torch. Equally no at the back door where the recycling bins were. The main bathroom door didn’t lock or even shut properly. Downstairs loo didn’t lock either. The kitchen lacked a cafetière so we couldn’t make a decent coffee. No visitors book, or suggestion book. No local information either. Apparently, these were available if you download an app, but that’s not really the point. Disappointing property for the price charged.

Bedrooms and bathrooms nicely furnished and clean/ fresh. Garden secure and great for our dog. Kitchen decently equipped for cooking, loads of fridge space and storage plus space for the dog bed. We didn’t use the wood burners but logs/ gloves supplied. 20 min walk to Whitby, 2 min drive to supermarket, and Parkrun right next door for sat morning!

  • "Overall we had a lovely holiday but with just a few tweeks this cottage would be so much better."

The garden needed tending the grass was left way too long and was cut the day before we left .The barbecue had not been cleaned . Downstairs is quite dark and dingey and could do with redecoration. Upstairs was fresh and brighter but some of the beds are very uncomfortable and could do with new mattresses. The garden furniture could do with an upgrade and the patio a good sweeping and weeding.

The farmhouse was ready on arrival.Very clean and homely. Our family were already placing Christmas trees in their heads and planning the turkey dinner in the farmhouse kitchen. A very spacious and comfortable home with bathrooms for all. The only very minor problem was the main bathroom door which had to be lifted to lock. Lovely enclosed garden for our two small dogs and a 10 minute walk to Whitby itself. Would fully recommend.

Also the BBQ was not clean out and could not use. The property was well located and we managed to do lots of different trails from the house and still be central enough to walk into Whitby. The dog bowls and towels that were provided were a lovely touch. The house was very clean, as were the bathrooms. We thought the kitchen could have been better equipped for the size of the properly but we do like to cook a lot. The en-suite shower in the small double we couldn’t get working properly, it was either really hot or very cold with little water pressure. We managed with using the other two bathrooms though.

there are few things that the owner should be aware of as stated by other people the front door key or lock are badly worn and can take a lot of fiddling to it work, the dish washer needs a good clean as when we first used it it just took the dirt off the lower plates and put it back on the upper plates, after that we used it on the top setting which was better, the first bedroom ensuite shower leaks and the basin plug is broken, the bathroom door lower hinge is broken and you have to lift the door to lock and unlock it, this could leave a child trapped in. there are no toilet roll holders, and just a petty little thing someone has put the backdoor lock in the wrong way round.

The property was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The flowers and essentials such as milk, tea and coffee sachets to get us started was very welcome after a long drive. If I was going to recommend anything, it would be a folder with some ideas of things to do that have been recommended by guests and lists of dog friendly places to eat and good takeaway/delivery places. Also a couple of games/jigsaws for rainy afternoons. I know many places are steering away from this as most things are done online but sometimes the old fashioned things are welcome. We really can't say enough about this lovely property. Five adults and a dog and we each had our own space and bathroom area which really helped in the mornings, everything was to a high standard and to have space for parking so close to Whitby was a bonus. The property is right on the cinder path which made it perfect for lead free walks for the dog in the morning. If we return to holiday in the area, we will book again for sure.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay over New Year. When we arrived it was all decorated for Christmas. A very lovely touch was the mince pies on the kitchen table and milk in the fridge. The only draw back if going during school term times would be parking. Perhaps wardrobes in the other two bedrooms would have been nice.

I am glad you enjoyed your stay, and hope you had a lovely Christmas. As it says in the listing, there is dedicated parking for 4 cars, all year round. We don't lose any spaces when the students are back in college. Sadly, due to the nature of the old house and the ceilings, it isn't really feasilble to put wardrobes in the other 2 bedrooms, but the claockstands with hangers do serve quite well, The other two wardrobes are large and roomy, so it it possibel to share if you need to. once again, thank you for your review, and I hope to welcome you back another time. Apparently the owner doesn’t take any notice of the comments as a large serving spoon is hardly expensive and would make life easier. You should know that the directions to the property are now wrong as Caedmon school has just been re named as Whitby Sixth Form College! We had a thoroughly enjoyable time and it is an easy 10 minute walk into Whitby but the walk back is very steep! The bedding and bed linen is basic and the curtains in all rooms are thin and flimsy, some were hanging off the curtain poles. Along side the farmhouse is the cinder path which is such a fabulous convenient walk for the dogs. The farmhouse itself is huge, and the bedrooms are all of a good size, 2 en-suite and a family bathroom to serve the others. The garden to the farmhouse is a little tired, the patio needs a very good sweep to stop dirty paws and the leaves need a good rake and the fence needs a bit of renovation. The kitchen is a great size, a big table and all the required white goods and bits and bobs, warm and welcoming. Dishwasher in the kitchen does not work so needs moving or at least cleaning - other dishwasher is fine. Double beds would be more comfortable if they were king size TV could be better- maybe free view with catch up TV?
