  • "The lodge was cosy +warm , clean, with all neccessary facilities provided ."

Unfortunately the en suite shower head holder was broken, but we used the other shower . The patio door was a bit temperamental, not closing easily . The site electric security gates were open all the time ..But we have stayed at the Pines before, so didn't feel it was a worry , it was very quiet .

Excellent accomodation, accessories, equipment and a very much appreciated welcome collection. Maybe consider a mat by the patio doors, would offer protection to the carpet. I did speak to Fiona regarding a couple of issues and hopefully they got sorted.

  • "This was our 3rd stay at The Pines and sadly we were very disappointed with this lodge."

We were charged a 5 star price for a 2 star lodge. Issues to mention as follows. Windows not cleaned. Hoovers unable to be used due to not being emptied for a long period which caused them to stink when we did try to use. Lack of cleaning products. Mop totally unable to be used, small brush and dustpan not fit for purpose, only two bin bags for a week. No iron or ironing board which we had to waste a full day on Sunday 13th to purchase. Owners were contacted by Yorkshire coastal cottages and were told that they do not supply, which is odd considering there is a washer dryer. No clothes maiden supplied also. There was a slug in shower in ensuite on arrival and shower head will not stay in position which is is difficult to use with one hand whilst holding shower head with the other hand. No umbrella for outside on decking, which along with the furniture needed cleaning also. We booked this lodge expecting the same standard as previous stays in other lodges on the Pines and I feel we have been grossly overcharged.

Thank you for taking the time to offer your feedback on your recent stay at Bramblewick. I am sorry to hear we did not live up to your expectations on this occasion. We were very surprised to hear your comments regarding the cleanliness of the lodge. Yorkshire Coastal Cottages pride themselves on their high standards of cleaning and maintenance on all the properties they look after at Pines. We would not expect you to have to start cleaning the property whilst on your holiday hence we only supply a minimum amount of cleaning products. The windows are cleaned on a regular basis as are all the lodges. Due to the limited space in Bramblewick we have not in the past provided an ironing board and iron, however as you have flagged this up to us as a problem we will look into solving this issue. • "This was our second stay at Bramblewick and have a third stay booked."

We spent a week in the lodge from 5th November. It is very comfy and extremely warm and cosy. We love having Netflix on the TV and all the mod cons in the kitchen. You really could live in it long term. People have complained about not getting the channels on the TV. BBC you can get as normal but for Yorkshire just use channel 103. Thank you. Claire.

  • "Bramblewick is a lovely lodge, set in a beautiful location, easily accessible to explore surrounding areas."

However, there are a few little niggly things that need addressing to make peoples stay more comfortable and enjoyable. It would be nice to have a sun shade / brolly on the decking to provide shade on a hot sunny day, as unfortunately we had to go inside due to not having any shade which was a shame. Something really needs to be done about the live TV. Many nights were spoilt as we were unable to watch TV due to the poor reception. We did not use the dishwasher as the large dinner plates were too big to fit in and were taller than the washer blades. Coat pegs are still falling off the wall in the corridor as reported many times in the guest book. There is no manual book explaining how to use the heating, as we needed to put the heating on for my elderly parents, we didn’t figure it out until a day before our leave. All in all we enjoyed our stay, and despite the above, we would recommend Bramblewick, but would recommend that things are put right to make the stay more comfortable.

  • "Overall we were very pleased with the property, it was lovely."

Suggestions to improve would be: 1. The listing doesn't mention if there are any towels provided. The email says check the listing, but nothing on there! Although we were pleased to find towels were there. 2. It was difficult to find the property - the postcode took us near the beach, which was at least half a mile away! The correct postcode should be: TS13 5HR 3. The email states: As you approach the main entrance to the pines, there should be a gate on your left-hand side, you go past, carry on up the track to the second gate.... It should read the gate should be on your RIGHT HAND SIDE 4. Once we finally past the gate it was difficult to find the correct lodge in the dark as again the instructions were wrong. The email states "On entering the site through the gates follow the road right round, the lodge is the last one in the corner on the left"... The correct instructions should be "On entering the site through the gates, take the first left, then follow this road to the end, the lodge is the last one on the corner on the left" Please amend these details. Then the property would have got 5* review

Thank you for letting us know we have updated these details Property Owner

More cups and glasses are required as when there are four people there are only 5 mugs, 5 tumblers and 5 wine glasses no cups, there were plenty of empty cupboards so no lack of space. Lodge in a great site and a good position .

  • "Comfortable and well equipped lodge with plenty of space for me, my daughter and dog."

Couple of niggles: awkward lock on patio doors need fixing, also broken shower bracket in bathroom. I would have liked a small electric Nespresso machine as I miss having good coffee and I’m afraid the cafetière doesn’t do it for me. Small ones can be purchased very cheaply. We loved the area and the dog friendly beach. The Bakery in the Shed (in the lane next to Runswick Bay Hotel)is wonderful, tasty bread and amazing cakes - lemon drizzle, Portuguese tarts, apple crumble slices etc. Danby National Park Centre is less than half an hours drive and has an Art Gallery with changing exhibitions, excellent crafts in the shop, and permanent galleries devoted to the National Park. Also an outdoor area suitable for children and great cafe, both dog friendly.

  • "Positives: A fabulous lodge on a very peaceful site, in a beautiful location."

Situated between 2 lovely walks along the Cleveland Way (3.8 miles to Staithes & 9 miles to Whitby). The welcome pack was a lovely surprise. But it would have been useful to have known about it in advance. Negatives: • Broken shower bracket in en-suite (previously reported by other guests). • No live ITV channels (previously reported by other guests). • On 6/5/22 we checked with Sykes Cottages to see if Bramblewick lodge had a washing machine. We were told us that none of the lodges had one. It did !! • No ironing board or iron (which is odd given that it has a washing machine). • The lock on the main door to the lodge was temperamental in that, on occasions, it wouldn’t lock/unlock. • The patio doors would not close properly and are clearly out of alignment. We had to pull the door to the left in order to close it correctly (previously reported by other guests). • More general information about the surrounding area would have been useful: Eg. (1) Local walking guides (fortunately we took our own and have left them for future guests); (2) public transport – we discovered that the bus stops were opposite the Runswick Bay Hotel and that the X4 bus runs every half hour to/from Whitby & Middlesborough. • The lack of a site office was a little disconcerting. What would happen in an emergency?

3: Did not think it was professional to have to keep bringing parcels in for the owners of the lodge 4: There was no live T.V which should have been made aware of before arrival yes there was net flix however on 2 occasions we couldn't access it as it said too many devices were using the account "ian" 5: did not enjoy being woken up by the diggers directly behind the bedroom at 7.30am/7.45am each morning should have a note on the listing about noisy building works. Very clean and comfy with all mod cons including dishwasher and wine cooler! We loved our stay here and would definitely recommend, there was plenty of room for us 4 adults and 1 dog. The only thing I would suggest is better instructions of where to find the lodge once you arrive! We went into the first main gate which took us onto the wrong part of the site and we ended up trying to get into the wrong lodge!! So from the main rd, go down the lane and take the second gate on the right (not the first).

About the location

STAITHES

Whitby 10 miles.

The charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is something of an artist’s dream. Its pretty houses and cottages are clustered around the old harbour and surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The village can claim connections with Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is still home to an RNLI lifeboat station and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) landing fish, crab and lobster, with boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and even whale watching available. It’s also the location of the popular BBC children’s TV series, Old Jack’s Boat. Staithes has a strong attraction for artists, with an annual Art and Heritage Festival, galleries and artists studios with art courses and workshops regularly on offer. There’s a free Illusion Trail, which guides visitors around the network of ginnels (alleyways), with trail guides available locally. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge. Altogether a superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast, visiting the larger resorts of Whitby or Scarborough and enjoying the moorland villages of the North York Moors National Park.
