  • "Damson Cottage is a nicely appointed cottage with excellent facilities."

Its location is good being only a 10 minute walk to the centre of Whitby. The cottage has good cooking options and comfy beds. There is one off road parking space for a car and additional on road parking for another car directly outside the cottage. My only suggestion would be to remove the jacuzzi bath in the main bathroom and fit a regular bath/shower combination as most people shower these days.

  • "Great cosy holiday cottage with parking for one car."

I asked if there was 2 showers before making the booking and was told there was, but was disappointed only to find 1. With 4/5 people staying, a big improvement would be to take out the baths and replace with 2 walk in showers. A handrail and hanging rail for clothes in the top bedroom would be helpful. The kettle could do with a clean inside, the freezer drawers we could not open and some attention needed on the bottom shelf of dish washer as it didn't slide in easily on one side. Some of the trees in the garden could do with being cut back to give more sunlight and the dustbin wasn't emptied. Two bins for recycling would be beneficial. One evening when we came back to the cottage the power had gone off but we managed to get it back on although we don't know what caused it. Everything else was great and we really enjoyed our holiday Welcome pack very much appreciated Regards Christine Denoon and family

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback on your recent stay at Damson Cottage. Firstly I must apologise for the misinformation you received regarding there being 2 showers in the property. This is something I have investigated and unfortunately the head height in the main bathroom is too low to accommodate a shower. I am however still looking into alternative solutions for the bathrooms. I will arrange a handrail and hanging rail for clothes in the top bedroom. The trees in the back garden are cut back on a regular basis as is the lawn. The trees will be cut back further at an appropriate time when the weather and conditions allow. Recycling, I am all for recycling and have tried in the past to implement a system that works. However we found that due to the location of the bins passers by and even some guests were not using the bins correctly and contaminating the bins resulting in the council refusing to empty them. I therefore decided I had no choice but to go for the commercial option and have one large bin that takes all waste. We find this system works much better. Property Owner

Visited, Scarborough, Saltburn-by-the-sea, Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay. Plus walks around Whitby. Noticed the beach huts £40 a day- will definitely try to book one next visit to Whitby! We enjoyed all the places we visited (maybe not Ruswarp as not much there except for the river and boats) Weather has been so hot so a bonus. Ate in the garden several time and sunbathed on the comfy chairs. Everything we needed in the cottage except for the oven, not great, the grill was fine, plus ate out mostly. A full length mirror would be lovely and I'm sure most would like to see head to toe! Welcome pack was lovely thank you. Overall a fab cottage, slept well, comfy bed. Hope we can stay again. Thank you

Is in a residential part of the town with a chip shop and pub near by. Fully equiped kitchen was really nice to find as having to take utensals with you is a bind. The rear garden takes the sunshine all day but has a bit of a slope to it. As I work in a commercial cleaning environment I feel the cleaning could be better.

The cottage was very dusty in every room and the bathrooms are looking very tired. I left a note regarding the leak in the ceiling above the sofa. The bedding was excellent quality. Great to have a garden but it looks a little neglected, I would remove the tree and shrub to allow light into the garden room. The welcome pack was a lovely touch and most appreciated. I would recommend it to friends purely on the location and parking space.

Thank you very much for your feedback. We have had a look into the leak. The property is cleaned to a high standard and checked on a regular basis. The garden has had a lot of work done to it recently, and the tree has been cut right back. We are glad that you have enjoyed your stay and hope that you return soon. Property Owner

, on site parking. The kitchen is well equipped and we particularly liked the addition of ‘Nadiya’ pans which were very good to use and easy to clean. The welcome pack full of Botham goodies was a very nice touch. There was a problem with the base kitchen unit to the right of the cooking range as it was hanging off it’s hinges but we fixed it back into the proper position. The area facing onto the rear garden we had enjoyed using before, a sort of conservatory, really needed it’s windows cleaning to appreciate the garden. Also a second shower somewhere in the property would be a great addition. However, all considered we had a lovely stay when we were able to enjoy good weather.

Not able to properly use garden as apple tree fell down! but didn't spoil our stay and Gardener kept us informed about what he was doing. Would have liked 2nd shower but again not a particular problem. Passers by do seem to think outside bin is for general use ie takeaway boxes and plastic beer and cider bottles. Not sure if typical. • "Having read the last 3 reviews before our stay we were hoping that issues mentioned regarding the stained pillows and bedding would have been addressed."

Unfortunatley not, so wasnt impressed at all. We didnt use the very stained pillows and put them in a bag when we left for them to be dealt with. They needed binning as do the others on main bedroom as they look very yellow and unclean. The mattress also looks grimey . There was no mattress or pillow protectors on. and this is in my opinion a must. General cleanliness around property poor. Thick dust ontop of kitchen cupbpards which can be seen from the lounge area. Also dust and cobwebs generally all round especially on skirtings and around radiator in lounge. The property is lovely and we had a lovely week there but we wouldnt be booking again. The cottage requires a little TLC and would be perfect.

We found crumbs in one cupboard and had to clean the fridge as there were food particles stuck to the shelf. Some of the carpets were tired looking and when we stripped our beds at the end of our stay as requested we saw the pillows were stained and yellow in colour and the duvets had dirty stain marks on them. The double bedroom had a mattress shoved under the bed. When we booked the website said no pets were allowed. We received a general email the day before we left requesting that we made sure the dishwasher was unloaded at the end of our stay, the bins were emptied etc and if we had any four legged friends any mess was cleared up. Why say no pets and then say this? The only positive thing about Damson Cottage is the location and the parking space.
