Lovely, quiet location with everything we needed. Nice cottage feel with cute patio garden. Even saw deer on the track. We’ll be back!

  • "It was perfect for myself and my husband we found it very homely and comfortable."

The bed was comfortable. The shower is great and the bath fills up really quickly. Gas fire worked really well, just had to be patient for the pilot light to work but that's because we're not used to gas. Central heating worked well. Great idea for the tray for our muddy boots and hooks for our coats on the back of the door. Plenty of crockery to fill the dishwasher up which was fab. The walk up to the cottage is steep but it was fine for us plus we saw a couple of Roe deer and a Barn owl while walking up to the cottage. The walk into Whitby was great, as soon as you get into Ruswarp village you can walk along the footpath next to the railway track, it's a flat path, and from the house it's a 2 mile walk, you'll need a torch if it's dark... We also caught the train from Ruswarp to Grosmont there's a 2 mile climb out of there onto the moor, and walked through the woods to Little Beck then along the River Esk. Also caught the train to Great Ayton and did a circular walk to the Captain Cooks Memorial and Roseberry Topping, beautiful views. The cottage is ideally situated for us, there's a regular bus the 95 that passes through every hour to Whitby. You can catch the train. There's plenty of taxis in Whitby, which is a great town lots to do and see, plenty of places to eat and drink. And lot's of lovely walks. I must also mention The Bridge Inn in Ruswarp was cosy, good home cooked pub grub, good portion sizes but they also do smaller portions too. All in all we had a fantastic holiday, the hosts were really friendly and helpful too. Thank you

Cottage kitchen had no spare cupboard space for provisions, though is well equipped. Dusty in places with cobwebs. Bedside lamp faulty in single bedroom. Found a pair of men's boxer shorts in bedroom drawers when looking for hair dryer in front double room. Wardrobe door knob needs repairing in back double room.

The booking process and getting all the information we needed to start our stay was very efficient and timely. It was great to have the more private back garden for the family as well as the communal grassed area where the children could safely run around and play football.

My ten year old granddaughter found her new ability - rowing on the river! The cottage was clean and spacious and everything was provided. The owners replaced our towels and bedding at the end of our first week. The only downside is that it is situated at the top of a steep lane, which however is quite short.

Some places were dusty in the kitchen which would benefit from high level dusting. Towels were a generous size. Double beds comfortable. The single room is cold as no radiator. Front door was an issue for opening and closing. This would be a health and safety issue for a more elderly guest or child as one had to push and lean against the door with considerable force. May have expanded due to weather however needs resolving ASAP to avoid potential injury. Great location and parking. Would be helpful to have a security light in the car park and some low level lighting installed for the dark winding path leading to the cottage. Would be a beautiful location in summer

On the very edges of town but extremely peaceful. Could easily walk into the village for minature steam train/boats/little shops and a pub as well as buses and trains. Well proportioned and spacious accommodation for an average family or small group of friends. Well equipped, only comment really is that the microwave is on its last legs and beeps randomly. Everything else worked great. Disappointing that games/DVD have been removed but I blame the pandemic for this. We were also with the owner's agreement able to charge our EV through the window which was enormously appreciated.

It was well equipped and comfortable. We felt the directions were a little vague as it said the entrance to the cottage road was opposite the miniature steam railway but by the time you could see the steam railway you had gone past the entrance. The garden was pleasant to sit in but would be improved by there being a more solid separation between Goathland cottage and Danby Cottage giving more privacy. Perhaps some climbing plants up the trellis? It would be nice to have had a spare toilet roll as 4 of us quickly got through the one that was there and a dishwasher tablet for every day of our stay would have been good. However we had a good holiday in Danby Cottage and would happily stay there again.

The kitchen is very well equipped with everything that you may need. The boiler is situated in a wardrobe in the single bedroom, it is unfortunately very noisy!! In the bedroom st the back of the cottage the radiator pipes seem to be very near to the floorboards and so squeak/creak loudly when you are walking past the radiator, this could in time crack the pipes? Overall a lovely holiday cottage in a beautiful setting.
