  • "Great property in a great location Only downside rock hard pillows & no spare in wardrobe to swap!"

  • "We had a great holiday in a lovely, well presented, comfortable and very clean property."

The location couldn’t be better in the centre of Whitby with good access to bus and train station as well as supermarket and eateries. The welcome pack was much appreciated. The parking garage is a big plus but we have a hybrid car and struggled to get access to the charging points, one of which was not working, because of the number of cars using the garage. I guess there is no easy answer to this. We would definitely come back again.

Hi, We're glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Parking close to the charging points can be a challenge but if we know you have a need for one of the chargers, please ask and we will reserve that spot for you. I'm sorry about the second charger not working during your stay, we are waiting the electricians to fix it (again). This particular one has been problematic and so we are looking to replace it. Thank you for your feedback and we look forward to you staying again Property Owner

  • "The apartment was spotless, my wife checked for dust, nothing at all."

Very comfortable and plenty of equipment. We found the pillows too firm to what we have at home. The welcome pack is a lovely touch and we were impressed that the kitchen was furnished with tea towels, towel, oven gloves, washing up liquid and new cleaning cloth. The secure parking was a great bonus and the apartment is central for everything Whitby has to offer. We had a fabulous week here and would definitely recommend

  • "Superior accommodation, very warm and spacious for two people."

Great central location. However, although the apartment was very clean the beams above were very dusty, the lower beams could easily be reached. There was a lack of side or reading lamps in open lounge/kitchen living area. We brought in a bedside lamp into this area but then lacked this in the bedroom. Also very little kitchen ware i.e. mixing/serving bowls. Few more mugs would be useful as large dishwasher for two people took ages to fill. Timing of central heating difficult as would have to download on phone! Overall enjoyed our stay.

Hi, Thank you for the feedback - the characterful beams have now been dusted! We did reduce the amount of kitchenware in the apartments but now that the trials of the last two years are hopefully behind us, maybe it is time to add a bit more back. The heating is by individual glass fronted electric panel heaters, they are very stylish and very efficient, there is no central heating system. Manually control of each heater is easy and the most simple way to turn them on/off, up or down and there is no need to control them through your 'phone unless you rally want to. We will double check that the instructions are in the apartment folder. Property Owner

  • "Good details about the apartment on the website."

Very clean and well equipped. My husband loved the steam engines parked right outside our window. They were not very frequent and did not run during the night. Lovely bathroom with double shower and big fluffy bath towels We found the huge bed very comfortable and there were 7 pillows . The heated towel rail was a problem as we only found the switch for it on our last day there. It was in the bedroom hot water tank cupboard down low behind the tank so in order to switch it on and off you had to lean right over and reach down behind a hot water tank . Very strange and it was not labelled or any instructions as to where it was at all. However there were instructions in a file for oven, hob, washer/dryer, microwave and dishwasher which we found very useful. Our other problem was that there was no 2 pin adaptor plug socket so we could not charge up either my husband's razor or our electric toothbrush. Off we went to buy ordinary toothbrushes Otherwise there was an excellent supply of electric sockets. A couple of reading lamps to raise the light levels in the lounge would have been very useful. We will come again as it really was a very comfortable apartment

  • "The Duchess of Hamilton Engine Shed was amazing."

Centrally located, pristine, modern and high spec. Perfect viewing point for watching the NYM trains coming in. However, I agree with previous comments that the mattresses are hard (guessing orthopaedic), but the worse was the rock hard, lumpy pillows - really struggled with these, and its easily fixed to replace them with something softer. I also was dissapointed that there was no outside space to sit as it was quite hot and airless in the flat.

  • "The apartment was lovely."

Very well fitted with good quality fittings and furniture. Everything needed was there. However we felt that the utensils, cutlery, and crockery were very sparse. For instance we had no teapot, fish slice, kitchen scissors, eggcups etc. We purchased two egg cups and left them in the apartment. The saucepans were virtually useless as only one fitted the rings on the ceramic hob. One too small and one too big! The sofa was quite worn and not very comfortable. However we enjoyed our stay in a unique apartment in a unique building.

The apartment was very spacious and well equipped and cleanliness was of a high standard. Although it is by a train line do not be put off by this as the trains are infrequent and chances are you will be out visiting the sites. The added bonus of a secure garage was an absolute bonus.

A nice touch . The heating had been turned on so felt lovely and warm . In these precarious times the standard of cleanliness was exceptional. All interior as per description. The lighting in the living room is good and fits in with the ambience but for those of us with ageing eyes a portable reading light would have been good. Easy to find and a short walk into town. What more could you ask.

), very well designed and furnished - two TVs were a bonus. The pillows were a bit hard, but that's personal preference. We like to cook when we go away, and we did think there could have been more crockery and microwaveable dishes, etc. to accommodate this. Cling film and foil would have been useful, too. Overall, however, we loved the apartment and would definitely come again!

Bed was really comfortable with a good choice of pillows. The secure parking was a good bonus. Location was good only a few minutes walk to town centre. • "First, congratulations are due to the owners for a fantastic redevelopment of what I understand to be a landmark building in Whitby."

The “Duchess of Hamilton” is a perfect size for two people with all the utensils and appliances you could need. The well thought out décor is as you would expect Railway themed right down to the 50G coasters on the tables which is the old BR code for Whitby engine shed (ok I googled it) The apartment is spotlessly clean and the carpeting in the corridors leading to the rooms makes you think you’re in a plush hotel. Another big advantage is the secure undercover parking as parking can be difficult in Whitby at the busy periods.

The hamper was a lovely touch, and much appreciated. It would be a good idea if there were some heat pads, to put anything hot you may have taken out of the oven. Was in a good location and it was great to be able to park the car and know it was safe. We were looking to go again next year, but was alarmed to find it 3 times more than what we paid this Christmas! It would have been nice if there was an option of a chair and a sofa. . • "When I rang and booked this holiday I specified to the operator that the single beds should be zip/linked to make a double for our stay (this was an option)."

We were therefore very disappointed to find the beds remained as singles on our arrival. I tried to ring Sykes on Tuesday 29 October to let you know but couldn't get through as all your operators were busy. I didn't wish to waste any more of a short break on trying to contact you as we wanted to make the most of the time we had in Whitby on the actual holiday. The mattresses were too firm so not particularly comfortable. There was one 2-seater sofa which meant there was little space to stretch out. There would have been space for a further sofa or at least one more chair to make watching television a more comfortable experience. Also, although a small point it would have been nice to have bath sheets rather than bath towels. The ones provided were too small. Overall though the specification and standard was of great quality and the apartment was decorated beautifully and we did enjoy our stay there.
