They left fresh milk & eggs. The wine and brak were a lovely touch also. Lots of space, plenty of places to sit. Comfy beds, simple rules and regulations.

  • "Just on our way back home from a fantastic holiday…a week staying in Fawcet House in Whitby."

I originally booked it for 3 adults and 2 children, however, grandma dropped out of the trip. Even if she had come with us, the cottage would have been more than spacious for us all. A lovely living, dining, cooking space greets you on the top floor, with an amazing view of the church and abbey and surrounding buildings. It is well-equipped (kitchen particularly!) and very comfortable and spotlessly clean. All three bedrooms are nicely furnished with really comfortable beds. We all had a great night’s sleep every night. The location is really convenient…very close to the river and access to all the attractions without being so close you’re bothered by any noise. There’s a Poundland within 50 yards which was really useful for little bits we’d forgotten. It’s worth being well aware of the two flights of stairs you need to negotiate within the cottage. Not a problem at all for us, but could be an issue if you have mobility issues. It is also about an 8-10 minute walk from the car park (the paid-for permit is brilliant), which again, wasn’t a problem for us but important to know. We had only a couple of trips out in the car anyway…York and Staithes, both were brilliant days out. Highly recommend Fawcet House!!

Right in the centre of whitby yet so quiet! The cottage was so comfortable, warm and clean. We had plenty of space on the inevitable rainy day and I've never known such a well stocked kitchen! Every utensil we could have possibly needed was there! Sharon ans Stuart were very quick to respond to any queries and we will definitely be returning! Jodie July/ August 23

Brilliant house the owners have thought of everything very good quality kitchen and bedding ware we had two dogs first four day was ok then a family came who was staying at the house through the next gate and kept leaving the gate open so had a few choice words with them also the cafe is called the yard now and the road on the way to the property says no entry but we had to go down to get to the property but it was easy unloading outside pound land but make sure you use the permit provided because a lady parked there who was in the beauty saloon and she got a ticket

  • "We stayed at Fawcet House in Feb 23 as a family of 4 with a dog."

This was one of our best holiday apartments and we’ve stayed in quite a few over the years! Communication with the owner prior and on arrival was great. The place was spotless and had everything we needed to have a very comfortable self catering stay right in the middle of Whitby. Unloading the car outside the property was easy and parking not an issue in the west cliff car park less than 10 mins stroll. Noise from the street was not an issue as the apartment feels nice and tucked away even though there are a few pubs close by. Even the sea gulls were inaudible through the double glazing meaning a peaceful and relaxing stay and I’m a light sleeper! Smart TV was bang up to date and the sound bar and sub were a nice addition when we fancied a night in with a film. The location also meant our teenage kids could pop out on their own and visit the various coffee/cake shops that Whitby has to offer without mum and dad which gave them some independence. All in all we loved our stay here and can’t wait to come back again.

The house is very clean, comfy beds, plenty of storage space and in the perfect location for exploring Whitby. The use of the washing machine was useful too, saved on a lot of washing when I got home. The owners are very nice and nothing was too much trouble. We have stayed in Whitby many times over the past 30 years and never have we stopped at the same place twice, I am very happy now we have found this little gem :-)

  • "Our stay in Fawcett House was slightly marred by the persistent ringing of the intruder alarm from Austins Letting Agency at the end of the alleyway."

It rang constantly from Saturday afternoon (when we arrived) all the way through till Monday mid morning, not pleasant and very disturbing. Contact was made to the Letting Agency but to no avail, it took the owners of Ellie's Cafe to contact someone to attend to the alarm. I'm sure it disturbed many more residents in Flowergate. Otherwise Fawcett House is a lovely place to stay

We are very sorry that your stay was slightly marred by the alarm from Austin’s Letting Agency. We have been into Austin’s and they have given us a personal contact number in case of any future problems. Thank you very much for your kind comments about Fawcet House. Property Owner

  • "This cottage has an excellent location in the town and is very well appointed and nicely decorated however there is a terrible smell from the under stairs cupboard which got worse as the week went on."

Also the parking is described as off street- this is misleading as the parking is actually in a car park which is up hill and over 10 mins away. We had my parents with us who were able to make this walk however some may not be able to do it. There is also limited space to load and unload. The blinds were broken in the main room and although on order, that did not help us during our stay as it gets light very early.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay at Fawcet House. I'm sorry that you feel it wasn't clearly advertised where the parking for the property was. We have now updated the distance from the property to the car park, however it does advise that the parking is in a car-park. We have also replaced the blinds with new blackout curtains. • "Fantastic place to stay, we would definitely go back."

Thank you to the owners for the little extras, milk, tea bags, chocolates and wine, these were greatly appreciated after a long journey down. The only thing that really bothered us was it could be a bit noisy. Poundland is just couple of doors up, which is very handy, but the delivery seemed to be alternate mornings from 6:30am. Highly recommend Ellie's cafe for breakfast, very friendly and lots of good tips on where to visit.

Large spacious house in the centre of Whitby with superb views. Added bonus of a parking pass for West Cliff car park a short walk away and space to drop off bags outside the cottage. Granted no parking right outside the cottage but with the central location this can’t be helped. Immaculately clean and well equipped kitchen with added bonus of a washer. Bottle of wine, milk and chocolate on arrival lovely touch. Fantastic cafe called Ellie’s underneath cottage with friendly owners, handy to have on your doorstep. We have already booked for next year and would 100% recommend.

  • "Lovely cottage in a really central location in Whitby."

The cottage is very well furnished and decorated, all facilities you could want are provided, we really enjoyed our short stay and would definitely consider a return visit. Excellent location for Whitby and the surrounding area, we enjoyed a lot of cliff top and beach walks. The only thing that could be improved would be the directions to the cottage, it was easy to find the street, but the details of where the gates to the cottage are could be clearer, there is no mention either of the coffee shop which is in effect the first floor of the property. It was closed when we visited, but could perhaps be noisy if open. That said, it is a wonderful cottage and one that we would visit again very happily.

It has a lovely open plan living area on the top floor with great views of the sea, abbey and surrounding areas. Let down slightly by a few repairs required and parking is in a nearby car park (approx 5 mins walk) but to be expected in such a built up area. We were happy overall with our stay and enjoyed our welcome gift of wine and chocolates!
