  • "The owner was extremely helpful, giving me plenty of details about the cottage, Whitby and parking."

The cottage was very nicely decorated and warm enough for February. I gave some feedback about providing a hairdryer, new mattress, and he acted on this immediately.

Hi Sarah Many thanks for your review and feedback. The hairdryer is already in Nutshell and a new mattress is on order. You are welcome back anytime. Regards Andy Property Owner

  • "I loved my stay at Nutshell."

It has everything I needed for a comfortable week. Great position in town, close to everything yet still in a quiet position. Lovely to sit in the sun (yes it did shine sometimes!) outside the front door with a coffee or glass of wine and watch the world go by below. I stayed on my own and Nutshell is a wonderful space to relax and recharge. Recommend Sherlock's coffee shop, and Silver Street fish shop - both close by. And for a fabulous Sunday lunch, The White Horse and Griffin in the old town...not the cheapest, but probably the best I've tasted! Great contact and info from Andy the owner...I would certainly stay again!

Thanks Alison for taking the time to submit your review and for the lovely comments. I look forward to welcoming you back to Nutshell. Kind regards Andy Property Owner

Hi Erika Thanks for taking the time to submit your review. I am disappointed you feel Nutshell requires a refit as it has in the last 2 months had a new sofa, TV and chair covers. I do have decorators booked for the first week in September. On your comment regards WIFI, the Sykes Cottages website clearly sign posts in the description that WIFI is not available. Situated in an ideal location, in the centre of everything, yet just out of the way enough to be peaceful. Beautifully laid out and decorated, with everything you need on hand, a stones throw from Pannett Park, and just around the corner from the best pub in Whitby, The Little Angel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and as regular visitors to Whitby, will be returning, and would highly recommend to others.

!?!? Compact and bijou but just perfect for a short break for two. We treated the place like our own so weeded and swept the gorgeous little terrace which is a veritable sun trap on which to enjoy a glass of wine (or six!). Will definitely be back!

Thanks for lovely comments and feedback. I'm really glad you enjoyed your stay at Nutshell and made good use of the new bistro table and chairs for outside. I'm sorry you had to sweep up but being in the town centre it does get dusty quickly. Hope to hear from you soon. Regards Andy Property Owner

  • "Several issues."

Cleaners still on site at check in. Had to wait around for them to finish, not great after a 6 and a half hour drive. No toilet paper available. Mouldy shower curtain. No WI FI. Scruffy and dirty outside space, stairs to property covered in weeds, dirt and butt ends plus an active wasp nest about 2 ft from front door on adjacent property making sitting outside on the small verandah impossible, owner said he was aware of this!!! Positives, good location to all amenities and car park permit to West Cliff, a bit of a walk but ok.

Thanks for your feedback as this enables us to ensure high standards are met. I have spoken to the owner of the cleaning company who explained that very occasionally cleaning takes longer due to the extensive cleaning required by coronavirus rules. A toilet roll should have been left and I apologise for this being missed. The shower curtain has now being replaced. As regards lack of WIFI, the property description states that WIFI is not available. The outside space has now been cleaned. Moving forward as well as the regular checks that take place, the cleaner will inform immediately if anything needs attention in between my visits. With regards to the wasps nest in the adjacent property, I have spoken to the owner who has assured me this will be removed as a matter of urgency. On arrival I always ask guests to let me now as soon as possible if anything needs addressing at the property as I will always look to resolve issues during their stay. Property Owner

We spoke with him before the holiday and he took time to explain all about Nutshell and the surrounding area recommending places to visit. He also rang on the day we arrived to check everything was OK and the day before we departed to see how our stay had been. Staying at Nutshell was just lovely from start to finish, what a quirky and unusual place, the nautical / seaside theme was relaxing and welcoming. Loved the mezzanie where you could open the curtains in a morning and look out the window and sit in bed with a cup of tea and then have breakfast afterwards sat outside overlooking the church and street at the little table and chair set - perfect start to the day people watching. Really very lovely, tucked away in a quiet location and yet a stones throw from everything Whitby has to offer. Would highly recommend.

  • "The smell of the musty shut up apartment was overwhelming on entering I stood not really wanting to go any further I did not want to eat due to the smell I sat at the table and cried and really wanted to go home."

After a few days of airing and buying a spray it is has now become acceptable. The showers unit needs attendance window and seals dirty. Table covers were dirty which I had to clean also. Tiles in bathroom I had to clean. Not the standard I was expecting. Would not stay again or recommend

Thanks for your comments. The musty smell may be due to the cleaners having to leave the radiator on in the shower room to allow it to dry out from the previous occupants. This may also have resulted in the floor tiles being marked if water has run down the wet wall. I have sent your comments to the head of the cleaning company regards the shower unit, table covers and window sill/seal and these will be addressed to ensure our usual high standards of cleaning on customer reviews are met.
