  • "We had a great stay at Pipit House."

Found it lovely and clean, welcoming and thoughtful milk in fridge accompanied by chocolate biscuits. Beds so comfy, veiws amazing from bedroom windows and a bath you can swim in.. Yes parking a bit tricky, but thanks for previous reviewers tip we used the second alleyway up green lane to offload/load our luggage and then parked further up hill. Weather was really kind to us for our stay, the locals were friendly and we have come back refreshed.. So thankyou Whitby and Pipit cottage!

  • "I have left comments in book."

Property is not suitable for small dogs. My Westie couldn't manage steps outside property, never mind getting into the property. At the rear of the property, again same happened. Parking is a nightmare, residents made it very clear they didn't want tourists to park in the street - I was even blocked in. Loading and unloading of car on a very busy road with double decker buses going past again is not ideal. No point having a washing machine if there are no pegs or anywhere to hang washing!! However, the property was clean, although as a result of covid we did wash all utensils before we used them. We haven't had a holiday for over 4 years and after being a front line worker working long hours through pandemic was really looking forward to stay but very very disappointed, felt a lot of stress and overall felt it was very over priced and have come back wanting a proper holiday. Sad

Thank you for comments. I really am very sorry to hear you were disappointed with your stay. In response I can advise that there are parking options available nearby including local car parks, parking permits available from the Tourist Board and roadside parking on a first come first served basis. I am sorry also to hear your dog could not manage the steps up to the property. These are clearly shown on the website however and is not a comment I have received before. Thank you for pointing out the lack of pegs or washing line. This is a useful suggestion. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was lovely and clean and the upstairs bedroom was very spacious."

It was lovely and peaceful. The shower was unfortunately very weak but luckily there is a bath to use too. The stairs inside the cottage are steep which is a lovely feature but was a little awkward with big bags. The steps up to the cottage from the main road are really steep and uneven (totally understandable considering it’s age) and we did find the alternative route a couple of days in from the other side which was easier especially with luggage. We always managed to find a parking space on the main road which was lucky. The cottage is quite close to the town and well equipped with everything you’d need and very clean!

  • "The cottage was delightful."

Located close to the centre with a lovely afternoon suntrap on the back decking. We loved the log burner and bath and were wowed by the top bedroom with its stunning views across the harbour. We'd love to come again, thank you.

  • "Absolutely lovely stay in a beautiful cottage for a short break, everything clean tidy on arrival, third floor bedroom amazing !"

! Such a lovely large room with fabulous views over the harbour, 2nd floor bedroom nice size and nicely done too. Cottage had everything needed apart from a pen !! (I wanted to leave a message in the guest book to say how much we enjoyed it ) I think the only thing to mention is that it’s fine downstairs for 2 people but a bit crowded for 4 adults…. Wound definitely stay here again

  • "This is a fabulous house with amazing views over the harbour and into the town."

The house is well equipped with everything we needed (no champagne flutes though but I took my own just in case) The master bedroom is very spacious but it is tricky to get up the spiral staircase from the first floor but this adds to the character. The house is set back from the road accessible from an alleyway so trust the directions (more like 50yards rather than 100 yards from the junction. The post code on sat nav confused us. Definitely pull up on the double yellow lines as per the directions and empty the car before parking. Parking can be tricky but that is the case everywhere in Whitby. We didn’t need to use a car park as we always found a free space but if you have to it’s not far away. All in all a lovely little house and we would definitely return

Only thing was i felt a little misled regarding parking ,unrestricted parking isnt quite right very difficult to park so be prepared to pay a daily fee to park in carpark 10 mins walk away

  • "Although the cottage was really nice not enough information was given about the location and accessibility regarding steep steep steps and stairs also parking was a real issue and on the initial booking information it says parking unrestricted this is definitely not the case."

I don’t consider myself to have mobility issues but I found this property difficult.

  • "We had a fantastic holiday, which unfortunately was ruined the day we left."

There is no parking available and we had to look for ages to find one after a long drive already. We eventually found one, it was very far from accommodation and resulted in us getting a parking fine of £70! We did not drive anywhere so we wouldn't loose the parking as on the first day we took a drive, we couldn't find a parking for a very long time when we got back....parking is a serious problem and being fined too, when it's not your fault is not the best way to end a trip

  • "My family of 4 enjoyed a week staying at Pipit House."

The cottage offers the home comforts needed for a comfortable home-from-home stay. The master bedroom is a great size and I loved the very firm mattress (my husband begs to differ). The location is brilliant for leisurely walks into Whitby. I would recommend Pipit House for couples and small families with older children due to the steep stairs and I'll definitely use Sykes again.

  • "Beautiful well equipped, clean and well presented cottage."

Only negative we found was no parking at the property, very steep hill where parking is available, so not suitable for those who have mobility issues. Found the owner of the property very helpful when we contacted her. Would definitely recommend this cottage for a staycation in Whitby.

  • "A bad experience unfortunately – the property advertises wi-fi, an essential for a wet week in Whitby with young children, but the owner failed to tell us until we had arrived and unpacked that she had switched provider and the new router hadn’t been installed."

Which was a problem as there were no children’s DVDs or books in the property. She brought the new router round halfway through our trip - but then asked us to install it, and when it didn’t work on any of our devices suggested it was our fault and refused to offer even a token discount! We were also concerned that she stated that no lost property would be returned (in contrast to the stated policy of Sykes Cottages), and the outside table was unusable due to seagull droppings, with no facilities to clean it. Having decided not to waste any more time doing the owner’s job and trying to fix the wi-fi, we left at the end of our week, leaving everything neat and tidy – and taking photographs due to the breakdown in trust. Sure enough, on the way home we received a message falsely claiming we had left the property ‘absolutely filthy’ with ‘dog hairs everywhere’, accused us of lying over the wi-fi and said we weren’t welcome to stay again! Needless to say we would have steered well clear anyway, but the rudeness spoilt the holiday and we would strongly recommend that – like us – anyone staying there takes photographs before their departure as insurance against similar false claims.

We are sorry to hear of the difficulties you experienced during your stay. As we understand it the owner drove two hours to bring the new router to Whitby at the beginning of your holiday and set you up with access to the broadband providers technical support so that you could resolve connection difficulties with them directly. It is unfortunate that the change of internet service providers caused an interruption to the service. Please accept the owners apologies and we hope you and your family will holiday with Sykes again. Property Owner

1 point to make for anyone with limited ability, there are LOTS or stairs to the property or a steepish bank walk and the stairs inside the cottage are very steel and quite tight, just something for people to know. Loved our holiday home and would stay again and recommend to anyone.
