It was very warm and peaceful, even the occasional steam train passing by added to it. I was a bit concerned with the back door leading into the bedroom, but it my worry was unfounded, the property is very secure with a gated fence round all the properties. We had a lovely holiday and will most likely book Platform 12 again.

It was spotless and had everything you could need. The trains were not an issue at all, we hardly heard them. The location is perfect, just a stroll from the centre but really quiet for a good night's sleep. It's very private to sit outside with our morning coffee. We will definitely book again, found our happy place.

  • "The property was great."

Well placed in the centre of Whitby meaning the private car park space was extremely valuable! Loved the layout and has everything we needed. Just a side note and nothing to do with the property itself, but was woken on consecutive nights. Once by ‘boy racers’ in the car park opposite and then by railway engineers using chain saws at midnight!! Hopefully these were one offs and some of the ‘issues’ when staying in the location we did.

We enjoyed the passing trains very much as we were in Whitby for the Steam Gala on the NYMR. Great location and parking near the house for ease of unpacking. Comfortable sofas for sitting and watching TV. I made a mistake in thinking there was a hairdryer at the house but I couldn't find one anywhere, so you need to take your own. I know its only a small thing but could you put an ice cube tray in the freezer for next time we book Platform 12?

  • "Platform 12 is a lovely cottage located close enough to the main part of Whitby, but away from all the hustle and bustle."

The owners have made a real (and successful!) effort to make the cottage feel very welcoming with the well thought out pictures, ornaments and cushions etc but at the same time have managed to create an uncluttered fresh feel inside. The bed in the main room was very comfortable. The smaller bedroom is quite tight on space and perhaps would not suit 2 older teenagers or adults - but it is a comfortable, nice looking room. There is car parking (for one car) directly outside the property - which is a useful and important bonus! Having stayed in Whitby many times, this is definitely one of our preferred cottages and will be back!

  • "The accommodation was brilliant with excellent facilities including a very comfortable bed (which is always my big concern)."

It was very central. The railway ran alongside the ground floor part of the accommodation but did not cause any disturbance; trains not too frequent and it was great when the steam train would go past and we'd wave!!! A really homely cottage. A real bonus is parking. Everything within comfortable walking distance. The only thing to be aware of is steps if this is a problem.

The trains are a nice sight and not a bother at all when they do pass. All in all platform 12 is just perfect for a short break, everything you need is provided and it’s right on the doorstep for town. My one tip would be to do your food shopping before you get there as the Co-op is the only major store close and as such you’re a hostage to their prices.

We weren’t bothered in the least by the trains, but slightly disappointed we didn’t see a steam train. Nice kitchen area and lovely bathroom. All maintained to a great standard. Great to have a parking spot too. On street parking is busy though. My husband came across after work meaning we had 2 cars. One parking space should be adequate for just about everyone though.
