  • "Excellent place to stay."

Immaculately decorated and very clean, all the amenities you need for a great stay, we couldn't fault the place at all. If we were to be very very picky then the bed quilts were too thick for the lovely cozy heat in the cottage and the mattress in the end bedroom upstairs was very soft I ended up with mild backache but that could be just us. Otherwise an excellent stay and we'd certainly come back for a long weekend again.

Loved the size of the property, and bathrooms in each bedroom. It was so easy having Whitby on the doorstep, also not far from Staithes, and Runswick Bay which we love. Definitely would like to return in the future. Arnold and Julie and family

It's spacious and comfortable. It's a bit of a walk into Whitby but only takes 15 mins at most and is a nice walk. We would definitely stay there again!

  • "It is difficult to find the property without the instructions and you need a torch when it is dark when you arrive to use the key code box; The photo used to advertise did not help finding the property and maybe useful to identify it is the back of the property as we needed to use this to confirm it was the property (as it was dark when we arrived)."

You need to be informed to bring a torch as it is dangerous to walk on the road to the property at night especially with the pot holes. It is worth notifying occupants to bring additional towels as the bath towels were very small and very thin. The room with the bath could benefit with a shower as the bath is very small and the occupants had to use others' facilities. Information in the guest book such as the wifi provider; recycling and how to use the heating would be a benefit as it was very limited- on the positive side when we text we had immediate responses. The kitchen items were limited and it was a struggle to cook for 8 - perhaps more serving dishes; serving spoons etc would be of benefit; a glass was cracked in the cupboard and a bowl broke ( snapped in 1/2) when being dried. The property is in a lovely location; it is quiet with a few cars coming and going to other properties, parking was available on the lane for our additional cars.

Future access may be compromised by the planned building of houses in adjacent fields . So , although we as a family dealt comfortably with the walking into town , abbey , restaurants , beach etc we would be worried that future development could compromise access and therefore enjoyment of our holiday.

It has been converted to a very high standard and provided a quiet and comfortable holiday for three generations of our family. The highly efficient unobtrusive heat pump system was much appreciated on the cooler nights we experienced in May.

  • "Loved our break at Raw Pastures."

We had everything we needed to have a great week. Location was perfect only 15mins walk into the town, and around the same to the Abby. The kitchen was very well equipped and there was even complimentary tea, coffee, sugar and milk. All bedrooms have comfortable beds and lovely Egyptian cotton bedding. Spotlessly clean. We were extremely lucky with the weather and so we could sit out on the raised patio and soak up the sun with our G&Ts Huge loft games room (we didn’t use) but it was there if you needed it. Every room was lovely and it was hard to choose which we wanted to stay in. Will definitely go back in fact looking to booking again next year. There was 6 of us there should of been 8 but 2 could not come, but plenty of room for everyone. Looking forward to another visit.

The kitchen was really well equipped with plenty of plates, utensils etc. Decor was to a high spec and having four bathrooms that were again to a high standard was a bonus! The whole cottage was really well looked after. There are also now railings around the patio so photos need updating!! I would definitely recommend this cottage as a great place to stay. Please be aware that the car parking would be really tight for two big cars. The walk into town was fine - 15 mins and you are in the heart of it all! Thank you

... I had not cancelled my holiday... I later was told I had lost all the money I had paid.. I am reliably informed that this kind of mistake is commonplace and that Sykes have got too big and cant cope. I also feel that the amount of recsources leaves a lot to be desired,,,,I spent over 2 hours of frustrating waiting on the phone. I was eventually found an alternative property which made up somewhat for the distress caused by the mistake Sykes Cottages made by double booking. I am still expecting compensation in some way.... You say would you like us to publish your feedback....I bet you dont!

The facilities were a good quality, plenty of space and exceptionally clean. The only thing that would really improve it would be more crockery, cutlery and utensils and better quality outdoor seating. We would definitely recommend this property and would stay here again.

  • "The cleanliness was really good and was very happy on arrival."

Also a pleasant selection of beverages for when you arrive. All the bedrooms and en-suites very welcoming and to a good standard. The location worked well for us but you need to be able to walk. The drop pin on Sykes map isn’t very accurate so the house wasn’t where I had expected. There is parking for two cars but extra cars can park on the road going up towards the Abbey. The small niggles are when we all came back from the beach and all needed showers the water temperature did fluctuate and the twin room shower was very slow to drain. Overall I would definitely recommend the house. Away from it all with the option of bars, restaurants and beaches within an easy walk.

  • "The accommodation was really lovely, fresh, and very clean."

7 of us stayed and we cooked in for breakfasts and evening meals and the kitchen had everything we needed with regard to pots, utensils and cutlery etc. The bedrooms and bathrooms were nicely presented - the only negative comment from our party was that the downstairs bedroom bed was very soft but probably they were used to sleeping on firm beds at home. The outside space is as the picture. It would not be suitable for children as it is a raised patio with no railings. It would be good for the future to put glass screening around it. There is a derelict shed in front of the patio full of storage stuff - i am sure this is still work in progress but did not detract from us having a really nice time. It's about a 15 min walk down hill into Whitby town. We used a taxi service to take us back and the cost for an 8 seater taxi was £7 so well worth using for the journey back.

  • "The property itself was lovely very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped but we were not prepared for the location."

it was among derelict farm buildings with a half built house next door. vehicle access to the property was extremely tricky and just about got 2 cars in. Although we did not have children with us I do not think it is suitable for very young children as there was a 3 foot drop from the patio area!! it would have been nice to have had some dvd's and games even a pack of cards.

The ground floor bedroom is small with very little storage space, so it would be great if the bedside tables had deeper drawers Also it would have been nice to have some simple games for the family to play e.g. playing cards, dominos, monopoly etc. Having said all that, we had a lovely holiday and the location was great and the house very comfortable

The ground floor heating: We occupied Raw Pastures during mid March 2019. On arrival the room temperatures were far too low - 19c. The owner reset them for us to 22c but we found that although the room temperatures were showing 21/22c the ground floor room was actually much cooler. On arising in the morning at around 7am although the room programmers were showing 21c, the actual room temperatures again were much cooler requiring us to put on many more layers of clothing. I found the programmers difficult to read therefore adjustments could not be made. The instruction leaflet did not seem to be of much help in understanding the settings procedure. The timings need to be altered so that the property is warm on arrival and again in the morning. Had the heating not been an issue we would have given Raw Pastures top marks across the board. It is well appointed, well placed, quiet, with an easy 10 minutes walk into town. Chippy

Truly peaceful and spacious but so close to town which was lovely too! Wander up to the abbey is easy and beautiful. We particularly liked strolling up the lane to the cottage after a day or evening out...one night we came across a doe and baby deer on the lane which amazed us all! There is everything you could possibly need in the house, washing machine is in the cupboard upstairs, a smart tv, and plenty of seating plus a well equipped kitchen... Other than the pattio, which is lovely, there is no “play”space for little ones, more of a teens and up location, which suited us fine!! Lovely!!
