  • "Excellent property and very well presented."

Very secure and easy parking. I will definitely recommend to my family and friends. Expensive but worth it as we didn’t really see any other hotels or rentals in Whitby to this high standard so I am delighted I chose the Engine Shed.

  • "2nd time we have stayed here."

Well located in Whitby with great safe parking. The apartment is a joy to stay in and extremely clean. The bed is enormous as is the beautiful bedroom. Bathroom is not massive but has a full size hand basin and good mirror etc. The roomy shower is very good lots of hot water that stays as hot as you set it. If you intend to cook the kitchen has everything you need. The sitting area is comfortable and a smart TV that works well. The windows from both rooms overlook the harbour, old town and Whitby Abbey. The small local trains come in and out of the station a few times but didn't bother us they are slow going in and out of the station which is next to the harbour. You are looking down at the train so no-one can look into the room. It's a few minutes walk to Whitby Harbour and town no need to move the car to enjoy its delights.

  • "Absolutely perfect for a couple."

Although this was our fifth time staying at the Engine Shed it was the first time in the Repton apartment. Cleanliness was to the usual great standard. Staff are always friendly. Welcome bits and pieces are always appreciated. The only one slight recommendation (and this is no way a moan but a personal request) would be some nice wine glasses rather than the chunky glasses and the two mismatched ones that were available. Would definitely recommend and we are booking again for next year.

Hi Andy, Thank you for the great feedback, we appreciate it. I'm just about to review the apartment's inventory this month and note your comment on wine glasses. We lose a lot in the dishwasher and its hard to find a balance between attractive and durable, but I'll see if we can do better! Kind regards Peter Property Owner

  • "Just a couple of very minor issues upon arrival - bin was broken -this had obviously been done recently as the broken plastic pieces were still on the floor, there was no ironing board cover and no hoover in the cupboard."

We also had an issue with the dishwasher as it will only was on the 'economy' programme. However, we would like to take the opportunity of praising the services of Marie who dealt with the issues straight away, even coming out in her own time on a Saturday to solve problems. As regular visitors (already booked for next year) please can you ask the owner for a new hoover, the current one does not work effectively and also a new ironing board cover. Oh and new batteries in the kitchen clock please -it has read ten to two for the past 2 years lol. We always love our stay at The Engine Shed and have recommended to several friends. High quality with caring staff. Looking forward to next year.

Hi Mark, Thanks for the feedback and glad to have you stay again. Your wish has been granted, following your stay a new hoover arrived - I never did find out what happened to the old one! The clock batteries too have been replaced, with new ones timed to run out at ten to two the day you arrive!!! See you again soon Kind regards Peter Property Owner

Can't believe what we've been missing. Repton was the perfect accommodation for 2 people. Couldn't fault it. Well equipped kitchen, spacious lounge, comfy bedroom. Constantly heated bathroom so towels were always dry. Everything was high spec. & the secure parking was an absolute bonus. Given the location I even checked the timetable for the steam trains, just for a photo or 2... We'll be back soon.

The apartment was beautiful and was absolutely spotlessly clean. Our 5th visit to The Engine Shed since it first opened and it won’t be our last. Lovely furnishings, washer / dryer and dishwasher in the kitchen and plenty of utensils if you wish to cook. Nice welcome pack and flowers on arrival too. The main attraction for us is the steam railway which passes by about 4 times a day. Finally the parking space here is great as it’s very difficult to park in Whitby normally. The only downside was having to leave and go home.

  • "Overall, the stay was a positive experience."

The facilities and equipment in the apartment are excellent. the kitchen is well-equipped and so is the bathroom. There is a comfortable sofa and overall it was a pleasant place to be. Both of us, however, found the bed to be unbelievably uncomfortable and it was not easy to sleep most nights. There are some beautiful old beams in the building too, but they have quite a thick layer of dust on them which is not ideal from the perspective of someone with allergies such as myself. Otherwise, the apartment was prepared and cleaned nicely in advance. A few checks on small things to ensure they are still OK would be useful. The ironing board had no cover and wouldn't stay up which was a slight annoyance. There was a couple of other things like that too. However, the location of the apartment, the parking, the communal areas are all excellent features of this apartment. I am not sure I would stay again primarily because of the dust and the bed, but bed comfort can be a personal thing and not everyone is bothered by dust, so I wouldn't necessarily discourage people from staying as there is a lot this apartment has to offer.

The decor is lovely and we never tired of the trains coming past. It's very nice to have parking in the garage too . There was a slight hiccup when the fire alarm was accidentally set off but luckily we were heading out for tea and this was resolved when we were back. Accidents happen and this really did not effect anything for us personally. The Engine Shed is the perfect base for exploring Whitby and we were really sad to leave. Would whole heartedly recommend and would love to come back in the future! The only thing that was missing was a guest book! Would love to have read through past guests visits but that really is me nit picking!

Spacious throughout and top quality furnishings. Wonderful bag of goodies and flowers to start the holiday. Secure parking is a must in Whitby and The Engine Shed comes with this too. • "Really lovely stylish comfortable apartment but a few small things let it down such as: 1."

No table or floor lamp in the living room. This would have been nice to create mood lighting. Turning the ceiling lights off to watch tv meant we were sitting in the dark and had to use our phones as a torch to see the remote control. Keeping just some of the ceiling lightings on was too bright for watching tv. 2. If you’re a cook, you will be disappointed with the pans provided. Quality of frying pans did not match quality of the kitchen plus the handles were loose. There were 3 small saucepans but no large saucepan for boiling pasta. Also, a wok would have been nice. There is plenty of cupboard space available for extra cookware to be provided. 3. General shortage of kitchenware. Eg, no knife sharpener (some of the knives were blunt), pasta bowls would have been appreciated. The reason most people choose self catering is because they will probably want to stay in at night and cook in their holiday accommodation rather than eating out.

The lighting in the lounge area was a problem; I hate overhead lighting and there was no alternative! The lounge needs a couple of table or standard lamps for more subdued lighting, and a chair near the window to read or train watch. The smart TV was good for the evenings.

Lots of seating in lounge made it very comfy and big modern kitchen had everything you need and more, even a washing machine. • "The overall stay was excellent, and really enjoyed the accommodation and its proximity to the town and all the local amenities and restaurants."

I wondered if being so close to the trainline would be noisy, but we actually got accustomed to the trains fairly quickly. The facilities in the kitchen, living area, and the bathroom were excellent. Lots of storage in the bedroom too though, and I appreciate not everyone likes the same kind of bed, the bed was not the most comfortable and would probably take my own pillows if staying again.... but I definitely would stay again. The one disappointment was that the hot water stopped working mid-way through the stay. I contacted the phone number and email address left in the book in the apartment, but never heard back on either - and still haven't. Fortunately, the same day, the cleaner made contact to see if we wanted fresh bedding and towels. I asked her if she could help. She provided an immediate solution so we could shower that evening, and the water was back on by lunchtime the next day. Thank goodness she got in touch when she did as who knows if I would ever have heard back from the telephone or email contacts. Notwithstanding the glitch with the water and the lack of communication on it, the apartment was excellent. I would stay there again and have already recommended it to several people.

Loved the decoration and design inside. Gorgeous comfy couch and lovely firm bed. Only criticism was the lack of a shelf or soap dish in the shower. My husband has had both hips replaced and bending down can be quite difficult and uncomfortable for him. Having to keep bending down in the shower wasn’t ideal. A small shelf would’ve made all the difference. Apart from that it was perfect. Loved seeing the steam trains. There are sparrows nesting above the bedroom window which we could constantly hear but we got used to that! Even the 6.30am train service didn’t bother us. We soon fell back to sleep. The parking was a real bonus. We left the car there and got the bus to staithes and Robin hoods bay. Perfect holiday.
