  • "Another lovely stay at the cottage."

It's always great to return to Whitby ans stay here. The nice welcome treats were a nice touch. We enjoyed day trips to Scarborough and Filey and had a nice visit to Sandsend for lunch ( the crab sandwich at Sandside cafe is a must !) We had fun on the beach and enjoyed fish and chips . We also had great pizza and beers at the brewery. Looking forward to the next visit

  • "A very comfortable, clean and well-equipped cottage."

The views of the harbour were lovely from the upstairs living room, but the Abbey was only visible from certain seats in the room. However it is strange that the massive car park just outside the cottage (across the other side of the adjacent railway line) was not mentioned in the blurb. At times this was packed out and coaches would leave their engines on with diesel fumes coming into the living room if the windows were open. It would surely be very busy in the peak of the holiday season. The car park somewhat marred the view and the experience of the cottage, which was otherwise excellent.

We are glad you liked the cottage & found it very well equipped for your stay, and enjoyed all that Whitby had to offer. Stoker’s Rest has views across the railway towards the harbour, and whilst there is also a car park near by, we see this as a bonus as Whitby is a busy town with not many parking options for visitors. It is usually a plus for our guests who travel in multiple cars, and wish to use our private parking space at the cottage, as well as having extra parking as an option, all within walking distance from the centre of town and the harbour. The coaches do come for the day, whilst most people are out enjoying the wonderful sights, & are not there on an evening when people may be in the cottage. All the cottages in this row have the same views including some views of the Whitby Abbey. Property Owner

  • "Great property in good location very close to centre of Whitby but away from the crowds."

Slightly misleading information about the property description saying that there were 'occasional trains' passing by during the day, sometimes there were 3 an hour. No comment about it backing onto a car park either. Bedrooms were slightly cramped and I am glad there was only 1 person in the twin bedded room. Everything else was very satisfactory and a well equipped clean property.

  • "Clean and extremely well equipped with everything you need and lots of stuff like washing up liquid, loo cleaner etc provided as well as treats, tea bags, sweeties."

We have stayed in cottages where you get nothing. WiFi great. Our only negative is the noise generated to the bedrooms downstairs through the floorboards upstairs. Very loud. We had a great stay though and thanks.

  • "Great week, some good walks, mainly dry week so lovely to be outside and near beaches."

Cottage beautifully clean and had everything we needed so thank you for that . One suggestion - an ice tray ! We hope to return to Whitby soon.

  • "Arrival instructions were followed but lead to a completely impossible angle for entry down the slope to the cottage front."

Directions need to take guest to train station where the turning is Windsor Terrace. Instructions do not indicate a slope needs to be taken down past cottage to arrive at parking. Ironically black folder in cottage is clearer but have arrived & parked by then! After this hiccup , lovely holiday.

  • "What a fabulous place to stay!"

Well deserving of its 5 star rating. Stokers Rest was comfortable, well presented and had everything we needed. It’s location was perfect for us and we loved the steam trains puffing past the window. The welcome pack and flowers were a much appreciated touch - just loved the biscuits. This lovely place contributed to one of the best holidays we have had - Thank you so much

  • "We enjoyed a lovely week in Stoker’s Cottage which is ideally placed to walk out and about around Whitby."

The hosts keep the Cottage in immaculate condition. We parked the car and didn’t need to use it for the week. A very good Coop supermarket is a short walk away across the car park on the level. We also enjoyed the views from the living room windows across the river and up to the Abbey and watched the trains pass by. But the occasional 6am train woke us as it rumbled past and it has to hoot loudly before the crossing. The downstairs bedroom has an external front door which is unusual but no problem. Will we return ? Oh yes. Thank you.

Beautifully maintained and cleaned to a very high standard by housekeeper. Loved the little welcome pack and flowers. An absolute home from home.

  • "Very clean property."

Great location and parking good. Lounge furniture is dated and not very comfortable. Needs more comfy chairs instead of corner suite and a chair that didn't have much use. Garden furniture too hard and uncomfortable and cannot be moved and would be nice to have individual chairs and a table. Could also do with a patio umbrella for hot days. Other than that we had a lovely stay in Whitby.
