“All good. Fab location, very clean and comfortable.”
Shower could do with replacing as a bit hit and miss in terms of temperature and water pressure but that would be my only negative comment and I would definitely stay here again.
Shower could do with replacing as a bit hit and miss in terms of temperature and water pressure but that would be my only negative comment and I would definitely stay here again.- Mr Houghton, September 2020
“Just needs better shower.”- Mr Frost, August 2020
“Cosy little cottage, well equipped, well located very clean would stay again and recommend to friends”- Mr Munks, July 2020
“I had an amazing time - we had a small problem with the shower which was rectified almost immediately by the owners.”
10/10 would recommend.- Miss Popplewell, March 2020
“The radiator in the bathroom didn’t work.”
There was no hair dryer. The teapot and tea/coffee holders had a film of grease/dust. The yard was ill lit and had quite a lot of rubbish/cigarette ends (and worse) in it. I think that is probably the responsibility of the council rather than the owners but doesn’t give a good impression. That is quite a lot of moans but the cottage was well decorated, cosy and very central. Overall despite the niggles we enjoyed our stay.- Ms Lanigan, December 2019
“The instructions for finding the cottage were very clear--which is good, because it is tucked out of the way and could easily be missed otherwise!”
The cottage was delightfully cozy and well located to everything I wanted to see in Whitby. In a very thoughtful detail, the hosts left a little bottle of milk in the fridge so that when, jetlagged and bleary my first morning, I got up to make tea, I didn't have to go shopping first. I would happily come back.- Mr Handley, November 2019
“We absolutely loved the cottage!”
It had everything we could want and was very comfortable. The only downside was the shower is a little temperamental and can scold and freeze within seconds. The main problem though is the nightclub near by. We were kept awake until the early hours by the noise as the music vibrates in the cottage quite significantly. These things didn’t detract from how much we enjoyed it though and despite the sleep deprivation I would visit thimble again .- Mr Burton, November 2019
“Thimble Cottage is advertised as a four person cottage.”
There is a double bed and two single beds on the first and second floors, however the living room / kitchen on the ground floor is tiny and there was only one small sofa between four people. We had to operate a rota to sit on it, with the other two people having to sit on two hard wooden chairs at the table. Equally, there were only two wooden chairs at the table, not four. This meant that meals had to be eaten in two shifts. The cottage living room / kitchen area therefore isn't really big enough to accommodate four people as advertised.- Mr Roberts, October 2019
“Central location great accommodation.”
Clean, well equipped and generally just a good property. The dogs enjoyed their stay and we were sad to leave.- Mrs Rees-powell, October 2019
“Thimble cottage is lovely and quaint little cottage close to the facilities.”
Very clean and had everything we required and it was a pleasure to come back to after days out to relax in.would certainly recommend it for a relaxing holiday.- Mr Cole, August 2019
“THIMBLE cottage is situated in a very good place in Whitby.”
Me and my husband like to have a sleep in when we are on holidays ,and then we like to have a little nap in the afternoon ,this was not possible , alas there is building work going on in the cottage next door it starts at 8 AM and finished around 4pm .a complete gutting and Renovation from the top to bottom of the cottage next door Non-stop drilling banging soaring swearing ,builders sitting on our cottage step drinking coffee and smoking and Stubing cigarettes out on the steps of our cottage. didn’t even wanna move of the step when you was trying to get into the cottage . and noise did not stop all the time we were there . We Tried to contact the people on the contact number at the cottage ie rang them several times no answer text no answer both the numbers we used no answer . which was advised by Sykes cottages when we got in touch with them. There was one very nice builder who apologised about the noise and the conduct of two of the other builders that were there ,He also told us that the work had started last week and the owners of the cottage we were well aware of this building work going on. We paid £550 for a week to stay on a building site- Mrs Bird, August 2019
“The cottage its self was in a fantastic location.”
It was comfortable and clean. It was small but perfectly formed. We loved it here, couple of minus points there is no parking and it cost us alot to park for the week. On the weekend the bass from the pub doesn't die down till 2.30 am which is kinda annoying. Work on the house next door starting at 8am some mornings, drilling and banging didn't bode well with the late nights. Owners were fantastic as I left my lap top and was kind enough to ring me and take it up 2 my sisters for me.- Mr Ellis, August 2019
“We can't drive so this cottage is in a great location for everything in Whitby, bus & train station, shops, supermarket, pubs plus steady walk to the seafront and harbour.”
Thimble Cottage is very clean and comfortable ,dog friendly too. This is our second stay it won't be our last- Mrs Smith, July 2019
“We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at Thimble Cottage , the location couldn't have been better for us as i wanted to leave the car at home .”
We found the cottage perfect for our stay and plenty to do in and around Whitby .( my daughter actually didn't want to go home , always a good sign ! ) The only slight problem was the ongoing renovations next door , a lot of noise at around 8 am some mornings . Though it didn't bother us too much i'm not sure how it would have affected others . All in all very enjoyable and we have already booked our next visit to Thimble Cottage .- Mrs Urmston, July 2019
“Thimble Cottage was easy to find with the directions that were given, It is in a great central part of Whitby within easy walking distance to all major attractions.”
No onsite parking but pay parking available nearby in the railway car park. ( must pay by credit card over the phone to be able to leave your car parked overnight. Phone number on ticket machine ). Every thing was as advertised, very clean and comfortable. Some things to be aware of though.... no laundry facilities, steep narrow staircase up to bedrooms and bathroom, also the narrow laneway outside is dirty with seagull droppings ( no reflection on Thimble Cottage ) There are plenty of eateries close by as well as a co op next to the train station. I would definitely recommend staying here for singles or a couple providing they can manage the stairs ,- Mrs harmour, May 2019
“This tinny little cottage is in a great location just off the harbour in Whitby and surrounded by great bars and restaurants.”
It is a character property set over three levels but with only really one room on each level, there is one reasonable double bedroom on the first floor and a twin bedroom on the second floor. The cottage is best suited for two adults and children and definitely not for the elderly or disabled the stairs are very small and steep. It is situated down a quirky alley way which is in need of some love and attention as several of the other properties are empty. It can also be noisy at night with several of the nearby pubs having live music / Karaoke. Overall we had a nice stay hear in beautiful Whitby and thought the accommodation was good value for money.- Dr Bradshaw, April 2019
“Thimble cottage is a clean and cosy cottage at the very heart of Whitby.”
Probably the closest place you will find to the municipal car parks you will mo doubt have to use. Less than 30 seconds from the award winning Trenchers restaurant and a minute from the Co Op store, everything you need is at your finger tips. What prevents the place from being perfect is the alley way it resides it. At best it was grim and at times stomach churning. Also the local nightclub can be a bit noisy at the weekend but I guess that comes with the location.- Mr Wood, April 2019
“I thought the cottage was fine, unfortunately I chose the coldest and windiest few days possible, I would book again probably when the weather was a little more pleasant.”
The cottage was small which I wanted and was within a short distance for trains, buses and most of the local amenities. I did enjoy the stay but had to cut the visit short because of the bad weather, but like McCarthur "I SHALL RETURN.- Mr Hickling, March 2019
“We had a fantastic holiday, its the second year running we stayed at Thimble Cottage, its so clean and very cosy, close to the harbour and the shops.”
The weather was very good to us too, we travelled out and about every day, visiting nearby towns. Even the ghost walk on Saturday was very interesting. We hope to be back again next year staying at our little Thimble cottage holiday home. PS it was lovely to have a pint of milk in the fridge so we could have a cuppa on arrival. Thank you- Mrs Saunders, March 2019
“Beautiful cottage exactly as described .”
...clean and comfortable ..fully equipped with everythig you could want and more .... and a lovely welcome gift xx- Ms Dooley, December 2018
“Lovely cottage, great central location, perfect for a weekend stay.”
Would highly recommend.- Mr Goode, November 2018
“Great central location, big difficult to find initially as up an alleyway.”
Parking at harbour good value as £9 for 24 hours which was great. Small lounge area with 1 sofa and 3 chairs but as we were only there for 2 nights suited us. Beds comfortable and plenty of room in top floor with 2 single beds, Quite noisy Saturday night from local nightclub which having read a previous review was expected. Didn’t disturb our sleep too much. Steep stairs which wouldn’t be suitable for small children/infirm , Enjoyed our stay- Ms Harper, November 2018
“Really good central location, although cottage is small it has everything you need.”
We bought a car parking pass from the visitors centre which was £8.00 a day but allowed you to park on various pay and display car parks. Great cottage, clean, tidy, only fault I would say is the double mattress was uncomfortable- Mr Slater, September 2018
“Details like a pint of milk in the fridge on arrival was really appreciated.”- Mrs Hardman, August 2018
“Cottage in great location close to shops and local transport great for those like us who are not driver's.”
Being dog friendly too is a bonus allowing two instead of only one was great don't find many places doing this- Mrs Smith, August 2018
“The only think we found hard was the parking we couldn’t get in the railway carpark to unload our luggage we at to park in the overnight car park which also cost £9 myself and my sister are pensioners so we found it hard to carry our luggage.”- Mrs Swepstone, July 2018
“The property is in need of repainting in some areas also my wife and myself have ...”
The property is in need of repainting in some areas also my wife and myself have been quite badly bitten while staying in this property by something- Mr Wrigley, May 2018
“The cottage could not have been more convenantly placed.”
Ideal location for everything.downstairs was very compact but the upper floors were great. I will be going again.- Mrs Moore, May 2018
“When we arrived at property and opened front door was hit by this smell of dog it was discustin also very dirty throw on sofa causing the smell dog hair all over living room floor and on bedding upstairs .”
After taking a shower next morning came down stairs to find shower had leaked water threw ceiling all over sofa so had to clean up . Also the pub near by played live music very loud until 3am Friday Saturday and Sunday night so got very little sleep if I hadn't travelled for 5 hours to get to cottage I would have come home very very disappointed- Mr Cooper, April 2018
“It was a beautiful little homely cottage.”
It sure was home to home. We came up in my motor home and it was lovely to be able to park in the car park just across the road which I was rather worried about. But no fear. It was so quiet and peaceful even the locals were friendly. We sure like the greengrocers which is just around the corner all food nice and fresh. We hope to be back in the near future. Thank you- Mrs Saunders, March 2018
“Lovely cottage very close to everything only problem was parking 8 pound a day to park so quite expensive .”- Mrs Ross, February 2018
“Being in centre of whitby.”- Mr Jenkinson, January 2018
“Both my wife and I had to use single beds in 2nd floor bedroom as we found double bed uncomfortable.”- Mr Wilson, January 2018
This Grade II Listed mid-terrace old fisherman's cottage, said to date before 1401, is located in the ancient village of Whitby.
Cosy and compact, this retreat is perfect for couples looking for a romantic break, or a family wishing to enjoy a heart warming getaway.
Formerly known as Smugglers Yard the modern name comes from the lugger or logger figurehead attached to the wall of the old Smugglers Café, said to have originally been taken from a captured French Vessel.
Supposedly the residence of one or more doctors at one time, the houses along the western side of the yard conceal a tunnel leading from the former Cutty Sark public house to the Smugglers Café.
The tunnel allegedly carried on along Baxtergate and emerged under the font in the old Unitarian chapel in Flowergate.
Though the Baxtergate part of the tunnel was believed to be legendary, remains were found behind Boots the Chemist when building work was taking place in recent years.
Step inside where you will find an open plan sitting area with a sofa, fire, and stone features.
A dining table rests nearby, which adds to the warm and snug layout, ideal for resting in the evening.
The kitchenette is tucked into the corner, wrapped in colourful tiles, and comes complete with the essentials you need to feel right at home.
A winding stairway will take you up to the first floor where you will be welcomed by a double bedroom hosting a feature fireplace, overseen by ceiling beams which rest above.
Complimented by lovely décor, this room promises a peaceful nights sleep.
Next to this, a family shower room is a classic addition to the layout, neatly arranged for a sophisticated finish.
Continue up the stairs to the twin bedroom, complete with neat bedding and an arm chair, along with a bedside table and storage space.
Pretty and quirky, you will enjoy getting into bed at night time and waking up to the comforting atmosphere.
Whenever you get the chance, explore Whitby with its charming town, picturesque harbour and sandy beaches.
