“The accommodation was adequate but could do with some basic improvements to provide a more comfortable stay.”

For example the bedroom all require blackout blinds or curtains as the lights in the street shine right into the house causing major light pollution and a bad night sleep until you remembered your eye mask. Also there was no hair dryer which is a cheap and easy item to provide guests with. Most women use a hair dryer especially in cold weather. The mattresses were too soft for my liking and the dovet a bit too warm so would be nice to have a lighter option. The dining area was too small really for 8 guests to fit comfortably. The jacuzzi was a luxury that takes up too much space imposing on the dining area. Otherwise we were happy with the property the facilities and location for the price. The Thai restaurant was amazing and should be mentioned as an asset to the property location on the website.

The cottage

Pocklington 4.5 miles.

Pine Lodge is a detached lodge set on the Florida Keys Holiday Park less than 5 miles from the delightful, traditional market town of Pocklington at the gateway to the rolling hills of the Yorkshire Wolds.

The lodge has been very well designed with high ceilings and bay windows to allow the light to flood in and bring the colourful garden inside.

The accommodation is very flexible with a mixture of twin and double rooms including a master en-suite with dressing area.

The fully-equipped, open plan kitchen and dining area is just the ticket for a languorous dinner and you can then relax in the sitting area and enjoy the heat from the multi-fuel stove when the weather is a little cooler.

The south-facing patio is the perfect spot to dine alfresco and plan the next day's adventure.

If you prefer to dine out the area offers a good selection of restaurants and pubs serving excellent home-cooked food.

Burnby Hall Gardens in Pocklington are home to a national collection of Hardy Water Lilies, the largest collection in a natural setting in Europe, with a secret garden and a Victorian garden, along with many other attractions.

The gardens play host to several Sunday afternoon band concerts during the summer which are really popular.

The city of York is a short drive away and as the park and ride is even closer you don’t need to worry yourselves with city parking.

Whether you are planning your first trip to York or are one of the many visitors who are addicted and return year after year the city always offers something new and exciting.

About the location

York 13 miles.

The pretty little market town of Pocklington nestles at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds in the Vale of York. It is perhaps best known for Burnby Hall Gardens - 8 acres of gloriously beautiful gardens with two large lakes which are home to the National Collection of water lilies. There are several world famous attractions nearby - majestic Castle Howard, beautiful Sledmere House, and of course the historic city of York. The town boasts a leisure centre offering a wide range of sports, including swimming, a Civic Centre and the Pocklington Arts Centre, which shows various films and stages live shows throughout the year. Pocklington is also home to Madhyamaka Kadampa Meditation Centre, known worldwide for its meditation courses and retreats, plus the KP Golf Club is situated approx. 1 mile away and offers wedding and other event facilities, a stylish bar and a restaurant, as well as an 18 hole championship golf course. Just a few miles away is the village of Warter, which is where David Hockney produced his 'Bigger Trees Near Warter' painting. Nearby are various cycle ways including the North Sea Cycle Route and walkers will love either the long distance walks along the Wolds Way or one of the many more circular walks in the area for all abilities. For those who enjoy touring by car, Pocklington forms part of the Pocklington Round, a lovely scenic drive which takes in some of the area’s prettiest villages.
