  • "The photos don't do the house justice, the house is a great size."

The garden is secure and great to let out a dog in the morning. The house it set in a secluded location on the estate with great walks from the door. Highly recommended.

  • "The Dower House is a welcoming, spacious home from home which makes an excellent base for exploring the area or just staying in and relaxing."

We particularly liked the big, well-equipped kitchen with a decent-sized table, and the separate dining room - so you have plenty of space for puzzles, board games, spreading maps out or whatever, as well as for family meals. We found plenty to do both hillwalking further away and exploring locally. We loved the peaceful deciduous woodlands around the house. Our dog was happy and relaxed (and so were we!) with the closed garden and plenty of local walks along forest tracks and footpaths with no livestock to disturb. One thing to be prepared for is that the bedrooms are very light in the summer evenings and early mornings, which might take some getting used to. The owners were most helpful when we needed to contact them.

  • "Lovely cosy cottage, really clean and had everything we needed including a garage to store bikes."

There were super walks from the cottage and in the surrounding area. We did a lot of mountain biking and had our kayaks too. The area is fantastic for outdoor pursuits.

  • "The Dower House far exceeded our expectations in every way."

The location is amazing, tucked away in wood on a hill with the trees all around and great places to walk just on the doorstep. The house is lovely. It has been sympathetically refurbished with good quality furniture, fixtures and fittings. We wanted for nothing in the kitchen and everything worked as expected. The house has a great homely feel to it and just makes you feel welcome. We looked forward to getting 'home' every evening. The garden is great for dogs, being securely enclosed. The owners were very friendly and approachable and were very quick to respond to any of our queries. I have no hesitation in recommending the Dower House to anyone looking for a home away from home to relax and enjoy the Scottish Highlands. Eve, thank you so much.

About the location

Inverness 20 miles.

Often compared to a Bavarian Mountain resort, the picturesque spa village of Strathpeffer owes its growth to the discovery of water springs during the 1700s, and was declared in 1819 to be the healthiest drinking water in Britain! The original Spa Pavilion has been magnificently restored after a period of disuse and now serves as a venue for a variety of events, including concerts, dances, dramas and exhibitions. The former Victorian railway station, which in times past brought many visitors from near and far, has now been beautifully restored to house craft workers and their shops, and is also home to the Highland Museum of Childhood. Visit the restored Pump house (also a Tourist Information point), take a walk along a forest track, or enjoy the views from the nearby pictish hill fort at Knockfarrel. Whatever you decide there's plenty on offer for all the family.
