"The cottage is generally comfortable and cosy, and in a beautiful location."
Facilities are adequate, including combi microwave/grill, hob, central heating, fan heater and electric shower. A few issues to note: There was no information whatsoever about the cottage, or any instructions about using it, we had to sus everything out ourselves. We never saw the owner, the keys were in the door when we arrived and we just had to leave them in the cottage when we left. The central heating was great, but seemed to come on and off quite randomly; there were no controls in the cottage. The cottage is next to a busy fast road, which wouldn't have been a problem but the windows didn't close properly so traffic noise was an issue. The shower, as others have commented, was very feeble and needs replacing. Overall, Osprey Cottage has the potential to be an ideal country retreat, but in our opinion is in need of a bit of money spending and some TLC to bring it up to a 5 star standard.

"The cottage is very basic and the furniture likewise."
The leather settee is far too large for the space and looks very old and battered. A smaller, more modern one would be much more suitable. The electric shower is very feeble; there are much better ones available. There were no instructions or information about anything such as the heating (no controls visible in the cottage), re-cycling, what to do or not to do - I have never been in a cottage before which did not have this. I took the cottage because of its location which is the only reason to give it any stars at all. A real shame as it could have been so much better with just a few tweaks.

"A lovely cosy cottage with stunning views."
Hosts were welcoming and very helpful with local knowledge. We appreciated the open fire. Kitchen had everything we needed. A lovely place to stay.

"A lovely, cosy, clean cottage with wonderful view."
I saw a white tailed eagle in front of the cottage! The owners are very welcoming and helpful. Very nice people. I’ve let them know about a couple of small things that need addressing. Sweeping brush replacing and washing up brush with faulty handle but these are minor and I’m sure will be dealt with. I was on my own this time and had a peaceful, restful stay. I was hill walking and bird watching. Thank you very much.

"We have just returned from a beautiful holiday and the accommodation for the ..."
We have just returned from a beautiful holiday and the accommodation for the price was excellent, the couch was very uncomfortable for two people to sit on, and the shower lacked any power and was not good for my wife’s hair, but apart from that it was perfect, location was amazing, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there, some amazing places to visit, Thankyou

"A wonderful cottage in a magical location."
Robbie is so kind and welcoming, he ensured our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. The cottage is cosy and it was lovely to have an open fireplace. The kitchen was well equipped and everywhere was nice and clean. The bed was warm and we slept well in it. There are some very varied walks from the cottage, and Dalwhinnie distillery is just down the road. We loved the peacefulness and waking up to the surrounding mountain views. Thank you Robbie for being a great host.

"The furnishing of the kitchen was exceptionally good; it provided with everything one could wish for; as well the mix of styles of plates, bowls and cups was special and lovely, and to our liking."
Opposite to our worry that the car noise would be disturbing due to the location of the cottage next to the road proved wrong; as long as one keeps the windows closed it is absolutely fine. Overall, we had a lovely stay at the cottage which is ideally located to go on hikes, from the Cairngorms to the West Highlands, and come back to a cosy place and start a fire to warm up after a day in the hills. On that point, the cottage was really warm.

"We stayed in early August and booked rather last minute (2 weeks before), as you can imagine there was not a lot of choice left in budget."
Despite this we were very happy with our stay. The location is perfect with a beautiful view from the cottage and easy access to the main roads. Some reviewers said the property is on a main road, we stayed during peak season and it really was not that busy. It’s definitely quiet by evening and overnight, it’s not what I would call a ‘main road’. There is parking for one car at the back of the property and shared access to a laundry room (there was never anyone in there). The property itself is basic but pleasant enough. The kitchen, whilst it doesn’t have an oven, had everything we needed. The lounge has an open fire. The bedroom was nicely furnished and the bed comfy. My partner had a dip on his side in the mattress but this could probably be avoided by regular turning of the mattress (if not flipping over then just rotating sides). Despite being a light sleeper he slept well enough on it anyway. Due to the roof light you cannot block natural light in the morning, this wasn’t a big issue for us, my partner sleeps with an eye mask anyway. If this would bother you I would just bring an eye mask (two are provided). The en-suite shower room is basic but adequate. The shower is electric so there is constant hot water but the pressure is weak (to be expected with electric showers). The kitchen tap also has constant hot water. We stayed during a cool week in August so some heating was needed. We couldn’t figure out how to turn on the central heating but a portable oil heater was supplied in the bedroom and this was more than enough to heat the whole cottage quickly when we needed it. We are with the EE network and had no issue with signal. The cottage was sufficiently clean, as someone who has a weekly cleaner at home because I love a clean house, I found the cleanliness fine, yes there was a small amount of dust here and there but nothing to write home about. Clean bed linen and ample towels were provided. It was a shame we could not bring our small dog as I think this would not have been an issue for this type of property but other than that factor, we would stay here again.

"The property is clean and tidy with a well equipped laundry room"

"A great shame."
A beutiful cottage in a great location BUT the cottage took a two hour clean at the start, a burnt out micro cooker, unsafe solid electric hobs ,leakig water taps & suspect electric socket. The frying pan was also burnt. The owner promised us taps & micro cooker would be fixed on the Monday,- they were not fixed until Thursday & a replacement hob never arrived. We were given a secondhand frying pan, but again I had to scrub it fully before use. Sorry, not good enough

"A lovely cottage with beautiful views."
Very cosy and warm with central heating and an open fire to enjoy. The owner couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. In depth local knowledge and unending supply of logs and peat for the fire. We will be going back sometime.

"Lovely little, cosy cottage."
Outstanding views - loved it.

"Wonderful stay beautiful setting especially in the snow."
Plenty of sightseeing around and waterfalls were amassing. Deer and Canada geese made the week. Lovely cottage with log fire, great host who couldn't have been more helpful. Would recommend cottage to anyone. We have already started to plan our next visit.

"Amazing location to explore beautiful highlands and Caingorms."
Robbie was an excellent host - we really enjoyed meeting him and he created a really nice welcoming atmosphere between us and guests at the adjoining cottage. He had excellent local knowledge and kindly offered us use of his canoe. Really appreciated the log fire with the peat to add on - made our living room smell great!

"We loved the views from the windows, the very comfortable bed, the excellent laundry room, patio for all day sunshine (when available!"
!) and a helpful host. The location meant we had varoius choices for where and what we explored. On the downside, Dalwhinie Distillery was impossible to book - most unhelpful. Apparently, one has to book on line, even when we called into the building!! Connectivity at the cottage was poor, so not possible. The road outside is fairly busy durig the day with some heavy lorries but all quiet by 7 p.m. and through the night. parking behind cottage was a bonus. Coffee shops within 5 minute drive; if the road was quieter we would have walked. Altogether a great stay.

"The cottage was lovely, clean and adequate for what we required."
However we did not have any hot water at all throughout our stay. ( The electric shower worked) , but the hot water taps in both kitchen and bathroom only worked for the first half hour. In fact it actually scolded my husband, then just stopped working! We tried to contact the owner on the number we were given but the number would not accept our calls, I even text the number but received nothing back. It would have been good also to know how to work the central heating.

"There is no WiFi at the cottage and no mobile signal in the cottage."
We had to walk down the road to get a signal but that wasn't a big deal. There is no cooker, just a hob and a halogen oven on the counter which wasn't ideal but we were able to cook basic meals with the use of the microwave too. The cottage has basic facilities and a shared washing machine/drying area. The open fire is welcoming after a cold day out walking. The bed was very comfortable indeed and the shower was lovely and warm everyday, no issues at all. Beautiful area and fabulous views from the cottage window of the sheep and lambs in the fields, not to mention the mountain views. A very peaceful area, the cottage is well situated to tour this beautiful area of the highlands. A real get away from it all place.
