  • "This house has the most stunning views I've even seen."

Looking out of a window....any window, was wonderful. The house was perfect. Huge and really well maintained. Very well equipped. Lots of crockery, cutlery, pots, glasses etc. We are a party of 7 with our Dad who is 95. We go away once or twice a year together as he loves us all being together. Always to a house/cottage. When we had our usual breakdown of our weekend at breakfast yesterday he announced that this house is" the best one we have ever stayed in". Praise indeed and we all agreed how perfect it was. Thank you for providing such a lovely house ! Regards Edna

Wow - thanks very much for your review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and appreciate your feedback- please also thank your Dad Property Owner

  • "Lovely spacious cottage with fabulous views of countryside and the sea."

The cottage is suitable for 10+ guests. We were a group of 5 adults and 3 small dogs, and had ample space. The 2 sitting rooms were excellent. Both had views of the surrounding areas. The bedrooms are all large, with one more private downstairs. The property is very well insulated and keeps the heat in well. The bathrooms are all modern, with good water pressure for showers. Kitchen is very well equipped, everything you could need. The outside space is great for dogs, lots of space to sniff around, and is fenced in, although our very small dog could get under the fence if she wanted, but she is very tiny! The property could benefit from some outdoor seating, just some camping chairs would do? It would also benefit from having broadband, although the phone signal is very good so we had no issues (and expected no wifi). We would definitely recommend this cottage!

Many thanks for your positive feedback- we’re glad you enjoyed your stay. We have arranged for some outdoor furniture for next summer as it has been requested by others too so thanks for that. Property Owner

  • "Lovely accommodation, stunning views."

The only thing that let's it down are the outside grounds, a little bit of grounds maintenance would have gone a long way especially when advertised as dog friendly. Some outside furniture would have been nice, glad it wasn't cold as wouldn't have been able to get fire wood due to everything being overgrown. A dvd player that worked would have been nice. Lovely accommodation otherwise but small improvements would go a long way.

On the down side (if there is a downside) there wasn't a great deal of info regarding when the recycling and ordinary waste bins were being collected. Unfortunately we had to use another bin as the recycling bin was full to overflowing when we arrived.

Many thanks for your feedback- we apologise for the situation with bin collection but there has been a strike. We will improve the information inside the property regarding recycling Property Owner

  • "The house was in a very private location, clean, lovely, warm, spacious and very comfortable."

The price was reasonable considering there were 5 bedrooms. Not having WiFi was not an issue as we were out so much and the phone signal was generally good. Well equipped kitchen with everything one could need, comfortable beds with spotless linen and plenty of towels. Lots of space outside for children and dogs. The views from house were spectacular as it sits very high up. Caithness is beautiful. Notable outings included gorgeous beaches eg Reis, Dunnet Bay, Dunrobin Castle (spectacular) Noss point where we actually saw four orcas-very exciting!! Timespan museum was interesting and we had an amazing Jamaican lunch at the attached cafe, hidden gem in the North East of Scotland! The villages of Helmsdale and Golspie are pretty and at Dunbeath harbour we enjoyed delicious locally caught lobster and crab rolls. We had meals at the Ulbster Arms in Wick and The Bay at Dunbeath-would recommend both and the reasonable prices. Latheronwheel had a sweet little ‘fairy Glen’ walk, a hit with our small children. So yes we would recommend this house and location, we had to do a fair bit of driving around but it was definitely worth it.

  • "We founds this property exactly as described."

It was clean, well furnished and ideally located. We wanted something that was relatively secluded but yet have amenities nearby. We found that this met our expectations and more. The views were open and unrestricted and it is located just off the A9 which is ideal. The grounds have ample parking and there are wide open spaces where the kids can play. The owners of the property are very approachable and were very helpful with suggesting local scenic spots to visit. The nearby beaches are spectacular and extremely clean. The week just flew by in this spectacular place, our only regret was that we did not book in for two.

  • "Accommodation really needs refurbishment and a good thorough clean, which clearly hasn't been possible as it was fully booked for months leading up to our stay."

It was our second time staying there and Dunbeath is such a beautiful location, and the house itself is in a stunning spot, but it felt drab and worn on our second stay, as not as much as a pillow had been fluffed since our previous visit years earlier. The place doesn't have wifi, which you can't complain about considering it doesn't advertise saying it does, but when it's literally buttons in 2021 to have such a facility, and they charge top dollar for the stay, it's a good measure of how frugal the owners have been with maintaining the place.

Thank you for your comments. It is always nice to have returning guests, sorry you felt like our property was not to your satisfaction. We do have an amazing team who check the finer details on very change over. As advertised there is currently no wifi as per your first visit We have taken on board your comment and will review this. The Bay restaurant, nice and local, don't be put off by the outside, inside is lovely, whiskey and gin bars, lovely views over the Moray Firth and awesome pizza's, the owner is very friendly and a great host. The house has everything you need for a stay with a large group - in fact we wished we had realised how well equipped it was as we would not have brought so many cleaning products with us. We were a large mixed age family group. The house had space for the children to play while the adults could relax in the comfortable sitting rooms. Super library! Host was helpful and friendly. Plenty of room to host two families coming together for Christmas, with everything you should need to feel at home. The kitchen is very well equipped and great to cook for a large group. Access to property is ideal for varied abilities (one member of the party uses a walking aid, managed no problem). When initially booking, we asked if there would be a Christmas tree up and on arrival we were overjoyed to see a large decorated tree in the living room which gave the room a lovely cosy feeling. The beach is only a short drive away and the shop keeper was very welcoming. We would definitely recommend a visit here.

What a wonderful time we had. There was 9 in our party and this included 5 children. The house was just perfect for us. it was spacious, comfortable, modern..a real home from home. It had such character and the views were incredible from all of the windows. The house had everything we needed, the kitchen was super and we cooked most nights. The location of the house is very good. We got out everyday and enjoyed the beaches (local and a short drive) or forest walks. One day we made a trip to the Orkney Isles on the ferry and had a day at John'O'Groats. We spent our last day at the Falls of Shin watching the salmon leap upstream (the has a lovely cafe and play area too).
