“The cottage was really well furnished, with ample space for our group (6 - it was to include 2 other adults and a baby who had to pull out, but even if they had joined us it would have been comfy).”

The Steading is midway between Boat of Garten and Nethy Bridge, easy access to Aviemore, Loch Garten etc. Lots to do in the area - haven for bird watchers, great for walkers and in terms of family trips etc we had a lovely time swimming in lochs, walking, visiting Landmark theme park 4 miles away and even a day trip into Inverness for Pizza Hut, shopping, Aquadome and the cinema. ...

There are lovely outside seating areas - decked at the back with beautiful views over fields, and some seating at the front looking towards Abernethy Forest. We saw deer up close in the field, and mountain hares, as well as a lovely variety of birds nesting by the cottage (the swallows were highly entertaining). The owner lives next door, which is handy for any problems, but to be honest apart from the wi-fi needing a reboot one day we had no issues. Highly enjoyable, peaceful, quiet place and we will certainly look to returning in the future.

About the location

BOAT OF GARTEN

Aviemore 7 miles; Grantown-on-Spey 7 miles.

Boat of Garten is a small village situated in the Cairngorms National Park near the River Spey. Due to its rural location, the village is a great base for those seeking to discover the impressive, rugged landscape of the region and the abundance of wildlife that resides here. Due to its close proximity to the large population of Ospreys at RSPB: Loch Garten, the village is also known as Osprey Village. In the village itself, you can find the family run 1896 Gallery and Coffee Shop, Anderson's Restaurant, a Post Office, a wine shop, a couple of cafes and The Boat Hotel, where you spend an evening dining out in style. Enjoy fishing on the River Spey, or play a round of golf at the Boat of Garten Golf and Tennis Club, which boasts an 18-hole course designed by professional golfer and golf-course architect, James Braid. The village is a short drive from the town of Aviemore, where you can enjoy outdoor activities all year round; enjoy skiing in the winter months, or walk, climb and cycle through the summer. Also nearby is the Caledonian Pine Forest, with many marked walks and trails to explore. Boat of Garten is a wonderful spot from which to enjoy a holiday exploring this stunning national park.
