  • "In general we found the property offered what we expected."

The plus points were: it had lots of space, was well equipped, had fabulous views and it was nice and warm on cool days. It was a pity that the games room was unavailable. The couple who slept in the double room found the mattress to be very soft and slept poorly as a result. The shower in the bathroom did not hold it's position which was a problem, despite providing plenty of hot water. Despite the minor points above we had an enjoyable time and would be happy to book again.

  • "A little notice to inform you to beware of how hot the water is in the bathroom, might be a good idea."

    Otherwise it was beautiful

Clean, quiet, spacious, well-equipped, fabulous views. We look forward to returning.

  • "The pictures don't do it justice."

It has a wonderful setting just on the edge of Bonar Bridge, overlooking the Dornoch Firth / Kyle of Sutherland. Loads of room, lots of space outside in the garden / patio. Piano. Smart TV. Kitchen very spacious and well appointed - lots of utensils, plates and glasses etc. Dishwasher, fridge, separate freezer, washing machine. Three WCs, bath and shower over, and en suite shower. Walls a little thin but nothing too bad. Nice and secluded, views stunning. Bonar Bridge is a little uninspiring - Spar is fine if limited, nice butcher. That's about it. Not even sure the pub was open but not overly enticing. Tain, Dornoch all within easy reach. Lots of lovely places to visit not far away - Brora beach is gorgeous. Dornoch town is pretty. Distilleries - Glenmorangie and Clynelish within easy reach. Would happily stay here again.

  • "Glaven was a super holiday home."

It was spacious, warm, comfortable, clean and well equipped. It was also situated in a quiet place with views from the property all making for a relaxing holiday. We have used Scottish holiday homes for some time now and Glaven was up there with the very best! Our holidays are spent actively exploring the local outdoors and we find having a comfortable holiday home to return to after our strenuous days the best combination. The local area is beautiful and interesting with much to see and do.

Very disappointed. Also pillows need replacing as all stained.

Nice cosy wood burning stove. Very quiet and peaceful. Well furnished and lots of equipment in the kitchen, lots of information about the area available.

  • "The tv would be better in the lounge not in the small sitting room we as a party of four were ok ."

The bed in the bedroom with the ensuite is low to the ground for someone with a disability that requires the use of the shower for access .The property is in a very nice area to walk and drive and down the road is a very nice bistro .We all enjoyed our time there and are looking to returning .

  • "A wonderful quiet, relaxing holiday in the Highlands."

Cottage was much more spacious than expected, facilities were top rate and views from the property were stunning. A great base to explore the countryside and local attractions from. We had a great time playing games of an evening and only watched the TV to catch the weather reports. Overall, we would definitely recommend this cottage for anyone wishing to have a quiet Highland fling.

  • "Beautiful bungalow with lovely views over the lake and furniture and fittings were delightful."

The only negatives were with lack of cleaning in some areas. Had a problem with emptying the bath as when full of water the plug would not release - contacted number of cleaners in folder about problem but although told to twist the chrome disc this did not work. It did however release when only a quarter filled with water. Phone signal only worked from bedrooms or outside and the same with own WIFI connection (no WIFI of their own). Was well equipped in kitchen although no plastic tumbler's, plates etc for children. Also a baking tray, microwave splatter guard and a washing up bowl (don't use a dish washer) would have been useful. Beds were really comfortable and clean. Freezer drawers really dirty as was a drawer under the hob which was really greasy inside and the kitchen sink waste plugs need a deep clean underneath.

  • "The Glaven is a stunning bungalow to stay at, with breath taking views."

Well fitted out and furnished, great large kitchen and dinning area. lots and lots of space to relax and chill out. The television is in a very small room with a very uncomfortable couch at the side of the bungalow, not in the large room with double patio windows, so for a large family, it's a downer. The other thing that needs to be pointed out is, the drive to the Glaven is very steep and very uneven, so if your disabled or have a disability, going for a walk or using a mobility scooter would be impossible, your also expected to take the rubbish bin down there on a Wednesday for collection, you then need to bring it back up. The games room, well it's not as you would expect a games room to be, it's just a dusty double garage used for storage. Apart from them few complaints, it is a beautiful place to stay.

  • "We give Glaven a top recommendation."

Glaven is a lovely, spacious house, set back from the road, with stunning views to the south across the Dornoch Firth. At the house, there were endless opportunities to relax and be entertained; dawn light on the water, ospreys hovering for their prey and a multitude of other birds, through to spectacular sunsets over the Kyle of Sutherland. The accommodation and facilities were as described (and better) although I do think that Wi-Fi is essential nowadays, especially when mobile coverage is so patchy in the area. The village can meet all of your basic needs with a special mention for Crannag Bistro, truly exceptional food and Ardgay Game for venison and more. Lots to do in the area as well; outdoors, golf, history and heritage are all to the fore. Handy for the North Coast 500 as well!

  • "Glaven is an exceptionally comfortable & bright holiday house."

It has really lovely views from especially the kitchen-dining room and the lounge of the westmost end of the Dornoch Firth & of mountains & skies. This is what made our holiday there so memorable.

  • "Everything about Glaven cottage was absolutely superb, views and location were stunning, even the weather was great!"

!! The cottage itself was immaculate, lovely big kitchen, great lounges and 3 double beds. When I go on holiday I like to look online to see local events, places to visit, the only thing that let the cottage down(in my opinion, some people see it as a plus) was no WiFi or 4G. Overall though we loved it, Gordon & Karen Fellows

About the location

BONAR BRIDGE

Dornoch 13 miles; Inverness 37 miles.

Bonar Bridge sits on an ancient fording point across the estuary that leads into the Dornoch Firth and dates from pre-historic times. Originally a ferry crossing and a fording point for cattle drovers, the first bridge was engineered by Thomas Telford and completed in 1812. Nearby historic Croick Church witnessed the Highland Clearances in the mid nineteenth century and messages scratched onto the windows of the church at the time are still visible today. Bonar Bridge is ideally placed to explore this region of Scotland. The Royal Burgh of Dornoch with its beaches and famous golf course is close at hand. The Falls Of Shin visitor centre with its waterfall, viewing platform, salmon leap, forest walks and restaurant is a half an hour’s drive. Salmon fishing and deer stalking are available locally and there is a spectacular range of flora and fauna to enjoy including buzzards, osprey, grey seals and golden eagles nearby.
