  • "This property was perfect for what we needed."

Quiet countryside location with everything you need in the house. Rupert was extremely helpful and very courteous. Together with the beautiful house, the location and a very helpful and kind host it made it a Christmas break we will remember forever.

  • "Rowan House is an extremely well appointed property in an idyllic location - within striking distance of many of Northern Scotland's prime attractions."

The house has extensive gardens and duck filled ponds... so it was actually very tempting to stay put and not bother with excursions! We particularly loved feeding the resident red squirrels... Rupert, the owner, made us feel very welcome and gave us lots of pointers to explore the locale. I wish we could have made it a longer stay and we would most certainly return in the future. Our booking was very 'last minute' and we certainly struck it lucky!

  • "Absolutely brilliant holiday."

My family and I had a fantastic time at Rowan House. Once a year my husband and I love to book somewhere where our family if they choose can join us, which here they did! Entering the entrance hall was a wow and every room in the house spotless! Plenty of rooms to choose from if needing some quiet time, although we tended to sit in the kitchen dining area and the large sitting room, there was plenty of bathrooms and loos to accommodate our family and plenty of fridges too. Communication with Rupert (owner) and his wife was always pleasant. Meeting them both was also a pleasure. It’s very easy to get your 10000 steps in per day staying here without stepping foot off the grounds. The garden was beautiful too. It’s lovely to see red squirrels running around the feeders and a good variety of birds (including a red kite) made an appearance. The hot tub was a lovely addition, easy to use and enjoyable. The house is situated for easy access to the NC 500 and lots of other places such as the Falls of Shinn (Salmon Leap), Dunrobin Castle and Dornoch ( where we saw 2 Dolphins swimming from the beach) The beach at Embo was beautiful too. We are looking forward to returning next year.

Comes complete with everything you need to ensure a lovely stay - books, games, firewood & even doggie poo bags!

  • "What an amazing place to spend Christmas with the extended family."

Rupert very kindly had decorated the house for Christmas including a 13ft Christmas tree. Stunning house, great garden and a gorgeous setting, would love to come back in the summer months and explore the area further. Only one critisism is that there is only one shower cubicle with the other showers over bath but we coped with that. Thanks Rupert and family for a lovely holiday.

Many thanks for your comments and we are thrilled you had a super time. We will be replacing the roll top bath in the middle bathroom with a large walk in shower, to enhance guest experience. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful and well equipped house in lovely surroundings."

Perhaps another enclosed shower would be useful as the baths were quite high for an older person to use. The bonus for us was seeing red squirrels and also a stag which came strolling by one morning.

Thank you for your feedback. We will be replacing the roll top bath in the middle bathroom with a large walk in shower, to improve the guest experience. We are glad you also saw the local wildlife. Property Owner

  • "Amazing home."

Great location, spotlessly clean, nicely decorated, nice sized bedrooms with great views of the surroundings. Mattresses on the beds were a little uncomfortable, and only 1 proper shower (+ 2 showers over baths with no curtains) but otherwise very well equipped for a wonderful holiday for up to 10 people. Highly recommended.

Thank you for your feedback and we're pleased to hear that you enjoyed your time at Rowan Cottage and appreciated the beautiful surroundings. We're committed to making sure the property is kept at the highest possible standard and were disappointed to hear the beds were not to your liking. Any feedback on which bed you refer to is always welcome. We have spoken to other guests who have given positive feedback for the beds and the mattresses were newly purchased last year after researching the options and selected based on the most popular choice by customers. Thank you for your feedback. We will also be replacing the roll top bath in the middle bathroom with a large walk in shower, to improve the guest experience Property Owner

  • "Rowan House is in a beautiful location with stunning countryside and wonderful wildlife all around."

We enjoyed watching the ducks and squirrels in the garden grounds every morning. Our dogs loved the miles of forestry walks bordering the house. Facilities nearby were great, I could even buy Gluten Free goods at the local Ardgay Stores, with the nearby Asda being a short hop to Tain. During our week we enjoyed Gold Panning at Kildonan and fossil hunting at Helmsdale and stunning beach walks at Dornoch. The owners son also gave me lessons on trout fishing, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Overall, we had a wonderful week at Rowan House and would recommend this location for a wonderful holiday.

Beautiful, huge garden with ponds, amazing birdlife, and visiting red squirrels and the occasional deer. The surrounding countryside is inviting with great access to inland walks and beaches on east and west coast. The house is large and very friendly, with lovely sitting rooms (plus fireplaces), big bedrooms and bathrooms, a well appointed and easy-to-use kitchen, a useful boot-room, and splendid bookshelves. We were a party aged 8 to 80-plus, and we all had a fun, memorable and relaxing holiday.
