"Lovely cottage and setting with easy access to main routes."
Cottage had everything we needed and more besides, highly recommended!
Thank you I am glad you enjoyed your holiday Property Owner
"Overall a cottage in a quiet location with nice Conservatory and good layout."
It has radiators and an open fireplace, even the beds are heatable. We had no contact with the landlords but we found fresh milk, bread and butter in the fridge, as well as a bottle of Prosecco, which was very thoughtful, thank you for that! The smell, perhaps of the heater burner, which is unhappily located in the kitchen, was perceived as unpleasant. One of the WC lines leaked, but will certainly be repaired, we have in this regard a Message left. The cottage was from the cleanliness O.K., but had already better cleaned.
The plumber has rectified the issue with the WC leak today Thank you for bringing this to my attention. The boiler has recently been serviced, apologies for the transient odour from time to time, it has been thoroughly checked over and there is no leak from the supply. Property Owner
"An excellent cottage, very well furnished and the welcome pack was much appreciated."
"Beautiful cottage, very peaceful and everything you could want provided."
Spotlessly clean and lovely welcome pack. Used as a base to do the N500. Was lovely to see the red squirrels and peacocks in the garden in the morning! Would highly recommend a stay here.
Thank you all for such lovely feedback. I am so glad the cottage is a lovely base for your holidays and the cleanliness meets your expectations. Kind regards Katie Property Owner
"We had a wonderful time at St."
Aethans, the cottage wasn’t lacking in anything necessary for a relaxing holiday. Outstandingly clean and tidy with a lovely sunroom looking out on the gardens and woodland. The journey to the cottage with views over the Firth of Sutherland was outstanding, as were the views from our trip to Ullapool. We were blessed with good weather, with temperatures in the mid to high twenties. I can heartily recommend St. Aethans. A trip up the coast to John O’ Groats calling at Thurso is a must and calling in at the Trawlerman for fish and chips in Golspie is a bonus.
"Great central location for touring the Northern Highlands or for just relaxing in the pleasant surroundings."
Spotlessly clean and very comfortable accommodation with high quality furnishings and equipment. We arrived to find the kitchen was complete with a well thought-out essentials pack, everything one needs after a long journey, plus a few luxury treats - Prosecco, chocolate cake, etc. Really enjoyed our stay at St. Aethans - a week wasn't nearly enough, so hope to return.
"This is a well appointed comfy cottage with a lovely sunroom overlooking tbe back garden."
Great location for exploring the North East and within easy walking distance of the Invershin Hotel! Would definitely consider booking again.
"Absolutely amazing place to stay!"
House is well kitted out with everything you could possibly need. And the welcome pack was very much appreciated. A lovely touch!
Thank you Gary I am glad you enjoyed your stay at St Aethans Property Owner
"I was warned beforehand of a plumbing issue which was resolved quickly."
"We chose this cottage as near to friends."
Lovely area. Great welcome pack. Comfy bed. Unfortunately I was ill half way through so didn’t get visiting everywhere. Dunrobin Castle, Falls of Shin and Dornoch beach definitely worth a visit.
"This is a lovely property ideally placed for exploring the area."
Everything was in the cottage that we needed and the welcome pack was a very nice touch. The beds were amazingly comfortable. Would have been nice to have the central heating in in the morning for an hour but it was off. Used the wood burning stove at night as it was chilly which was cosy. Highly recommended.
Hi Sharon and forthcoming guests please put the heating on boost in the morning. I have set it to timed , but everyone is welcome to put the heating on when needed and there are plenty of logs to burn please don’t be cold Kind regards Katie Property Owner
"We had such a pleasant stay, the house is equipped with absolutely everything."
Above all the facilities provided I must say that the beds were incredibly comfortable. We had the best night sleep ever. We’ll definitely book again next time. We had the chance to meet Morag, the housekeeper, a wonderful person herself and her husband.
Thank you Calin I am happy to hear you had a lovely stay at St Aethans Kind regards Katie Property Owner
"Fabulous cottage in rural location a real home from home"
"We have had a great 1 week stay at this beautiful cottage."
Well equipped, nicely placed in a great area, we had a wonderful time!
"We put the bins out on day stated but they were not collected but we were delighted with the facilities."
Thanks for letting me know . I will find out if the bin collection day has changed Property Owner
"Lovely house, great location."
Clean & well equipped for walkers - airing rack & dehumidifier very useful. Would stay again.
"Home from home comforts."
The home owner has thought of everything that you would need and more. Even electric blankets on lovely comfortable beds. Lovely cottage and ideally located for exploring the Highlands.
"Great welcome pack Excellent wifi Comfortable bed, Kitchen well equipt Wood stove great on a cold day Flooring on entrance needs attention, and ceiling and wall mould need attention."
Thank you for your comments Bernard I have consulted a surveyor to come and give me advice on the condensation issue . Apologies and I hope it didn’t spoil your stay kind regards Katie Property Owner

Lovely cottage in a great location, the clear night sky's was something to see, beautiful, the surrounding area is great for hiking so peaceful
"The cottage was lovely."
Very clean and well equipped and the welcome pack was the best we’ve ever had anywhere. The beds were so comfortable and the furnishings were excellent. Red squirrels in the garden and lots of birds. The area was great lovely scenery but quiet roads so it was a pleasure to drive around and take everything in. The Achness Bridge Hotel at Rosehall was great for a meal and the staff were very welcoming. The food at the Pier at Lairg was very good but the welcome less so. Just ignored for quite a few minutes when we got there. Dornoch is a pretty town with lovely shops especially the Jail!! A small department store converted from the town jail. Lots of lovely walks in the area. We were very fortunate with the weather but the cottage was so comfortable it was a pleasure to sit in the conservatory and just relax. Thanks to Katie the owner and Morag the housekeeper for making our stay so enjoyable.
"Excellent base for day trips around the Highlands."
"Absolutely brilliant and couldn’t ask for anything more"
"Thought the cottage was further away from the road, but wasn't an issue as road went quiet at night, I am a light sleeper."
Couldn't find an ironing board but can't remember if one was listed, but there was an iron. The Cottage was a good base for exploring as was within 2-3 hours of everywhere we wanted to go. We really loved our stay there and would very happily book again. The welcome pack was indeed very welcome. We were very sad to leave.
"Lovely spacious cottage with everything you needed."
Ideally positioned for touring the surrounding area.Welcome pack was a lovely touch and greatly appreciated. We could not fault anything about our stay .We would highly recommend St Aethans to anyone wanting a relaxing and comfortable holiday.
"Well equipped; clean and comfortable."
Depending on holiday requirements quite central for travelling around the NC500 routes. The welcome package is probably the best we've seen, and received, while doing this sort of holiday. Shops & garages within 10 minutes drive either to Lairg or Bonar Bridge that stock most of what you'd need. If you're a stargazer then you're in for a treat, this area is classed as Bortle 2 which is a truly dark sky site, if you get a clear night, prepare to be amazed.
"Had an amazing week, we saw plenty of wildlife from this lovely cottage in an exceptional setting."
We were a little concerned with traveling as this was our only holiday of 2020 with the lockdown and everything, the cleanliness at St. Aethans went that extra mile which really helped make our stay even more relaxing.
"The very generous hosts at St Aethans left us welcoming goodies, which was much appreciated after a long drive."
The cottage was very comfortable and warm.
"The cottage was perfectly fitted out and equipped with everything we needed ."
"Comfortable and well equipped cottage based in Invershin which gives access to many places in the Highlands."
It is our second visit here, we travelled both to the east and west coasts, visited Dunrobin Castle, Lochinver, Clachtoll beach, Ullapool and Oldshoremore. The cottage was lovely to relax in after our exploring. Quality furniture and beds, great welcome pack. Made use of the sunroom and access to dining out was good, The Pier in Lairg was excellent for meals. Lots of photo opportunities in the surrounding area and abundance of wildlife. If you like the night skies you are in for a treat, the corn moon rose above the cottage on 3 nights, it was spectacular, after that we were treated to the stars...wow!! Lucky to have warm and sunny weather all week, highly reccomend
"This proved to be comfortable and spacious accommodation conveniently located near a moderately busy road and within 1/4 mile of the rail station."
This road provides easy access to the coast or into more mountainous countryside. Further afield a trip to John O'Groats is a good day out. The local hotel is within walking distance and forest walks are close by.
"We were two over 70 brothers fishing the Lower Shin."
No wives, cooking for ourselves, picnic lunches on the river. River is a mile away so it was a perfect place for two of us. We usually bring wives so with them we would have found the separate kitchen not very friendly. We like an open kitchen, dining, sitting area. If we fished alone again we would make this our first choice. Peter and Stephen Leach
"Beautiful and comfortable."
Really good quality furniture Perfectly warm A great place to explore north Scotland from. Plenty of places to eat out Really recommend eating at The Peer restaurant just up the road. Not much to look st, but fabulous view across the loch and excellent food served with well trained staff. Check opening times tho. I would stay here again.
"Had a wonderful time we went all over ullapool,Dingwall, ion a groats, shin falls that was diferance the was a big shop and cafe last."
time we went, the people were loverly great food ,good time had by all
"This is an outstanding cottage and absolutely beautifully appointed."
It is located for easy access to many tourist routes. The owner provided an excellent welcome pack which went on an on when we looked in the refrigerator! What a lovely start to our holiday. We had travelled from Skye and our lovely sat nav led us a merry dance cutting corners etc. Our sat nav took us past the cottage and we had to telephone the owner for direction so, if you are approaching from Bonar Bridge the cottage is located just past Invershin station on the left hand side of the road. Another note: The filling station at Ullapool takes cash only. We found that there were a few cafes that did not take cards so just have some cash with you! Dornoch is very close and has the most beautiful beach and headland walk. The town has lots of shops and eating places, plus a good Co-op. We took the single track road to Ullapool and, as we found on Sky,. other road users were very good re stopping at the passing places. It is a winding road but with lovely views etc. We decided to come back via the main road but wished we had not due to road works and traffic - and it was a long way around. The weather was good and we were able to get to John O'Groats in the sunshine stopping off at some of the various towns along the way. Invershin Falls is just left of the cottage and then right onto a single track road and worth a visit. We are sure you won't be disappointed with the cottage and the locality.
"Lovely property ideally situated to explore the highlands, with good access to east and west coast."
Very thoughtful welcome pack. The beds were very comfortable, well equipped kitchen and cosy living room with wood burner. The sun room was great to relax and read in... nice comfy chairs. Peace and quiet. We were able to eat out in a local restaurant plus visit Dornoch for another evening meal. Invershin falls and cafe 10 mins drive, well worth a visit. WiFi was really good. Thank you, we had a super holiday.
"Wonderful location and a very clean and comfortable property."
The thoughtful Welcome Pack items were much appreciated and the owner had provided everything we needed to cook, etc. We would definitely like to return soon.

About the location
- Dornoch 13 miles
- Inverness 37 miles
Bonar Bridge sits on an ancient fording point across the estuary that leads into the Dornoch Firth and dates from pre-historic times. Originally a ferry crossing and a fording point for cattle drovers, the first bridge was engineered by Thomas Telford and completed in 1812. Nearby historic Croick Church witnessed the Highland Clearances in the mid nineteenth century and messages scratched onto the windows of the church at the time are still visible today. Bonar Bridge is ideally placed to explore this region of Scotland. The Royal Burgh of Dornoch with its beaches and famous golf course is close at hand. The Falls Of Shin visitor centre with its waterfall, viewing platform, salmon leap, forest walks and restaurant is a half an hour’s drive. Salmon fishing and deer stalking are available locally and there is a spectacular range of flora and fauna to enjoy including buzzards, osprey, grey seals and golden eagles nearby.
