  • "What a wonderful place Kestrel Cottage is!"

Outstanding setting, beautifully restored and everything thought of. Mackie contacted us before we arrived so we had all the details, the fire was on when we got there, hot tub ready and an amazing welcome pack! The cottage was immaculately clean and had everything (and more) than we needed. Whilst Sutherland is brilliant for a holiday, this cottage really made it for us, a real home away from home. We got stuck in an Amber weather warning one day, and were blissfully unaware snuggled up in the warmth and comfort of Kestrel cottage - what a place, can’t recommend enough - thank you!!

  • "Dear Kestrel Cottage Team thanks a lot for the friendly welcome and hospitality during our stay."

This Cottage is a nice place to spend holidays with dogs in the nature and ideally for excursions in the Highlands or to the coast. It is very nicely furnished, nothing is missing in the equipment, even the dogs are thought of. Thank you very much. We will be happy to come back. Greetings from Switzerland

  • "We had a amazing week at Kestrel Cottage."

From the welcome pack , suggestions of places to visit , the cottage , views & weather , just perfect. Highly recommend the cottage. Never been up into Sutherland area , just stunning. If I had a tiny piece of feedback ,it would be use to have some fans to cool the bedrooms at night . The Scottish midget like a couple of us , so opening the window wasn’t a option . This did not spoil anything, we loved the cottage and hospitality from our host , thank you

Definite adherent to the William Morris principle of 'Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be beautiful or believe to be useful'. Loveliest cottage I’ve ever rented.

  • "Kestrel cottage was a really amazing place to stay."

The cottage completely exceeded our expectations and the views are breathtaking. We were 4 adults on our stay and we were more than comfortable. We had everything we needed. Mackie and Eimear were fantastic hosts. A slight issue with the TV in one of the bedrooms was fixed really quickly. The fireplace was one of my favourite features as well as the hot tub of course! It’s a really remote location so a car is definitely necessary but the location is really great to explore the west coast which we did and thoroughly enjoyed. We’re already planning when we can get back. Can’t recommend highly enough, we all had a fantastic relaxing holiday. Thanks you Mackie abs Eimear.

Our faves were: Durness beach, walk up to "The Mannie", walk along the beach from Brora to a beachfront waterfall and seeing the grey seal colony there too, Ynot cafe in Thurso, seafood shack at Dornoch beach, The Pier cafe at Lairg, Balblair woods and Loch Fleet..... But most of all....... The Views!!!!!!!! Couldn't recommend the area or the cottage highly enough.
