  • "The cottage was lovely-great location, and very comfortable- highly recommend."

The service from Sykes was disappointing-rang to request we allow PAT testing to be completed. Asked me to complete security questions-ie provide all my details. When I asked they e mail me to confirm they were legit initially suggested they would end the call as I hadn’t completed the security checks. Then when I asked they confirm expected time of no information provided. Had to ring again and then the caretaker was surprised we were still in !

  • "The cottage was lovely and spacious with a nice big kitchen and cosy log burner in the dining area."

It was in the perfect spot for exploring Inverness and the North Coast 500, which was ideal for what we had planned for our holiday. Located on the River Ness, a stone's throw from the castle this delightful cottage facilitated our holiday needs well, with all the amenities close by for convenience, although we felt as though it didn't fully meet our expectations on cleanliness unfortunately. The kitchen in particular could have been cleaner and we found the light switch in the living room was damaged. We also felt the living room got quite cold with there only being one radiator in there. All in all a lovely place to stay with a nice big bath tub overlooking the river in the front bathroom at the top of the stairs, great for indulging after a long day's walking the northern Munros.

Thank you very much for your feedback. We are very pleased to hear that overall you enjoyed your stay at our cottage. We also appreciate you making us aware of those issues that did not meet your expectations as this enables us to rectify them straight away. We have instructed our local agent to immediately inspect the light switch and to replace or repair the problem as required. We had not personally found the temperature in the lounge to be a problem in the years we lived at this property, and we are sorry to hear that you felt it got too cool. We do allow our guests to turn up the central heating to whatever level is comfortable for them; also the woodburner in the dining room disseminates heat throughout the ground floor which enhances the heat from the radiators. However, we will check the controls on the lounge radiator to see if this needs attention. We are very sorry to hear that cleanliness did not meet your expectations. You have every right to expect a very high standard and we fully appreciate how frustrating it can be if standards are not met. Our cottage is managed by a local agent who is very aware of how important cleanliness is to our guests. His standards are usually very good and we can only imagine that his team of cleaners took their eye off the ball on this occasion. He has been notified of your comments and will look into what happened. He has also assured us that this will not happen again. We are very sorry that this occurred on your visit. As you seem to have very much enjoyed your stay other than the aforementioned issues, we sincerely hope that you will visit again in the future. Property Owner

  • "A beautiful cottage in an ideal location with some outstanding restaurants in close proximity."

The cottage was very clean, beautifully decorated and had all the facilities we required. It was lovely to be able to stand outside the cottage by the river and take in the quiet, pretty and illuminated scenery at night with a glass of wine in hand. We wished we could've stayed longer but work and school commitments beckoned. We are already looking for our next Sykes Cottage stay.

This far exceeded our expectations. Centrally located in a beautiful city, but was so quiet. We will hopefully return and we will certainly recommend this cottage. As 4 key worker's this holiday was very much appreciated. Thank you.

Apart from that we were very happy with the house and Martin was a great help and very courteous and helpful, nothing was too much bother for him. We had to phone him at one point when we had locked ourselves out and he was there in a flash, lovely guy.

  • "We found the 3 bathrooms very cold, the couch very uncomfortable did not understand why the log burner was in dining room while the TV was in the sitting room."

You assume you could put on the fire in sitting room but when you arrive find a notice saying fire is not real and cannot be used. No instructions on operation of stoves cooker and the cooker hood could only be turned on by my 6 foot tall son. Finally you have to park between the white lines on the road but the parking is further up the road towards the end of the street, if you put permit in car and park off the road in front of the cottage you will get a parking fine.

  • "Excellent location if you want to leave the car behind and use public transport."

Fitted out to a very high standard with a lovely view over the river. Two small points. We found the sofa very low and difficult to get up of and the stairs could do with a hand rail all the way up not just the ballistraid. Had a lovely time.

  • "The position of the cottage was fantastic."

There was paint flaking off the doors, stairs and skirting boards. The handle on the lounge door kept coming away and we had to be careful to open and close the door or else we could have become stuck in the room with no way of getting out. Also the shower vibrated throughout the cottage and was extremely loud.

The door handle on the door into the sitting room from the kitchen/dining area was found to be loose, but still operational. It was extremely quick and easy to fix. If you had reported it to Sykes as soon as the issue was identified it could have been fixed for you during your stay, because we have a handyman on-call for these kinds of things. We kindly ask guests to report any maintenance issues, however minor, to Skyes as soon as possible during their stay so they can be fixed in a timely manner. The shower has been checked and does not vibrate throughout the cottage as stated. It does make a noise if it is not turned on fully and is then left in a semi open position. When fully turned on, it does not make any undue noise and/or vibrate. The wear and tear to some of the paintwork has been addressed. Property Owner

  • "We had a nice stay at 10 Douglas Row but there are few issues that need to addressed."

The paintwork was chipped, which looked vey shabby, we could not fully open the door in the front bedroom because the bed was in the way, some of the baking trays, roasting tins and frying pans were not fit for use, only the dustbin. Other that the house was very comfortable and only a short walk to the shops.

A little hideaway in the centre of town with it's own parking. Clean, comfortable and tucked away in a quiet one way street on the river bank just a 7 minute walk from the shops and restaurants. We had an excellent Sunday lunch in the Mustard Seed, literally 5 mins along the road.

  • "Great location for accessing surrounding areas."

Large, quirky, well laid out cottage that is very well equipped; kitchen and bathroom areas were immaculately clean. However, after a day of hiking or touring the areas the last thing we wanted to do was sit on a (very) dirty sofa, or sleep in a lumpy bed, which along with other areas were in need of a deep clean which did let the property down. Otherwise we had a great stay and if these issues were addressed I would definitely recommend and revisit.

About the location

INVERNESS

North Kessock 5.9 miles; Dores 9.2 miles; Tomatin 15.5 miles.

The Capital of the Highlands, the city of Inverness, is the gateway to the countless delights of the Highlands of Scotland. Towering mountains, dark lochs, great forests and precipitous sea cliffs are all within easy reach. Of particular note is the legendary Loch Ness, which is surrounded by some truly breathtaking scenery, although most visitors are usually on the lookout for something a bit more mysterious! Just outside the city is the Culloden Battlefield at Culloden Moor (National Trust). The site of the last major battle fought on British soil, there is an award-winning display depicting the battle, whilst a walk on the field serves as a poignant reminder of the clansmen who lost their lives. Inverness itself has much to offer, museums, an art gallery, fine theatre and leisure facilities, not to mention shops, pubs and restaurants. The River Ness flows through the city and both the river and neighbouring Moray Firth are home to a diverse range of wildlife and marine life including red kites, along with dolphins, which can sometimes be seen from the shore, or on trips from the harbour.
