Second time here in 6 months. Great base for exploring. Applecross, Torridon all within relatively short driving distance. Strathpeffer itself is beautiful and there's great walks behind the village.

  • "This is my second stay at Spruce Lodge."

It's the perfect getaway for Christmas, and has great walks for our dogs. The lodge has a fully equipped kitchen and laundry facilities. It's lovely and warm with enough space for a family of four or four adults. My only criticism is the internet, it is slow and patchy. With much of the entertainment being online, it would be good to have a better service. Starlink do a super fast service for £70 a month that would give the Lodge the edge over the competition.

  • "Really enjoyed the holiday."

The cottage is spacious, nicely furnished, with a well equipped kitchen. The beds are comfortable. If I was being ultra picky, then my only negative would be the slow internet. Other than that this is a great property, in a great location.

Stewart for all your help! We had a great stay and weren't missing anything at all. Very cosy place in the middle of the forest, calm and clean, comfortable and well equipped. Lots of day trips to do from Strathpeffer. We'd gladly stay again at Spruce Lodge if we ever come back to that region of Scotland!

  • "Enjoyed our stay at the lodge."

Have stayed in three of these lodges over the years. Spruce's advantage is the private parking space directly outside the lodge. No more lugging suitcases along pathways. Only observation I would make is the lighting. It was difficult to do a jigsaw in the lighting available. Not really a big deal as the weather was, on the whole, quite fair and we were not stuck indoors.

However it is very well equiped, good location, dog walks almost outside the door. Owner had kindly left us a welcome gift. Would visit again.

  • "The cabin left a lot to be desired."

So much needed maintenance would be required. Starting with the patio doors handle and lock being replaced, the bathroom sink missing sealant against the wall instead of old paint, decking at back of property needs cleaning and adding grip surface like the one at the front as I found out after injuring myself on the greasy decking, the trees could do with trimming back as well, there needs to be a info booklet on various aspects of the cabin and surrounding area. I have to say we will not be going back to this cabin again.

  • "The location of this lodge is excellent."

Straight out the front door into the surrounding countryside. Wonderful. It's quiet, has it's own parking right next to the lodge, easy to walk into the village too, and plenty of internal space for all of us. As dog owners we couldn't ask for anything more really. The only negative was the bath/shower. The plughole/drain was partially blocked, and water wouldn't drain away while showering. There's an issue there and the smell of damp supports this. However, this is a minor issue that didn't spoil our enjoyment of what was a great holiday (super weather helped too).

  • "Loved it! Gorgeous setting, clean accommodation, pet friendly - what more can you ask?"

As a small aside, could be even better if there were more than four plates, mugs etc... Rear decking needs scrubbing to remove moss/dirt as EXTREMELY slippery when damp!!

We also felt completely safe with the current coronavirus situation. The accommodation was clean and hygienic and we were grateful for the additional information and advice provided, for example we brought our own pillows for the duration of the stay. My only disappointment was the lack of communication from Sykes when the original cottage that I had booked was unexpectedly cancelled with no notification from Sykes. I only discovered the cancellation when I went on the mobile phone app to check details of the accommodation.

. The lodge is one of four in a small group so don't expect to have no neighbours. The owner was very friendly as were all the locals we met. We had a very old dog with us who as quoted in the rules Sat and slept on his bed. Unfortunately and this is not a reflection on the owner we had to buy some air freshener for one of the sofas as it smelt of dog and this would not be the case if dog owners followed the rules of the lodge. The lodges position is everything we wanted. Strathpeffer is a beautiful place as is the surrounding areas.many thanks for the treats you left. We definately would visit you again.

  • "Spruce Lodge was comfortable and had just about everything we needed."

However it would be helpful to have simple instructions/manuals as to how certain things work. For example we could not get the grill to work. The wifi would not connect and we ended up using a less than perfect free wifi which was not protected.A tumble drier would be helpful as it wasn't easy drying washing in summer when it was raining outside and there was no heating on to dry it on radiators. Also the lights were very dim so perhaps brighter bulbs would help.

About the location

STRATHPEFFER

Inverness 20 miles.

Often compared to a Bavarian Mountain resort, the picturesque spa village of Strathpeffer owes its growth to the discovery of water springs during the 1700s, and was declared in 1819 to be the healthiest drinking water in Britain! The original Spa Pavilion has been magnificently restored after a period of disuse and now serves as a venue for a variety of events, including concerts, dances, dramas and exhibitions. The former Victorian railway station, which in times past brought many visitors from near and far, has now been beautifully restored to house craft workers and their shops, and is also home to the Highland Museum of Childhood. Visit the restored Pump house (also a Tourist Information point), take a walk along a forest track, or enjoy the views from the nearby pictish hill fort at Knockfarrel. Whatever you decide there's plenty on offer for all the family.
