  • "One side of the toaster didn't work , a leg on the clothes airer was broken, mold on the back of shower curtain, not enough logs provided for the full weeks stay."

It was a little run down really. Needs some maintenance. Bonus the heating is good.

Thank you very much for your feedback, we rely on guests advising us of issues like the toaster. The logs that were provided are intended as a starter pack only as advertised, guests can buy logs from the local shop if they wish. Glad to hear the heating kept you warm during the cold snap, thanks for your business and hope to see you at Church View again. Property Owner

It had all the facilities required for a short break, we found it a bit chilly even though we stayed in May and needed to turn on some of the heaters, so not sure how comfortable it would be later in the year.

  • "The cottage was functional and worked well for us."

It was freezing cold and had a musty smell when we came in, which didn’t give a great impression. Enough fuel was left for us to light to wood burner and we’d brought a good supply with us so we soon had the place warmed up. Downstairs the cottage looked tired and whilst there was a comfortable sofa in the kitchen, the sofas in the lounge were extremely uncomfortable to the extent we didn’t really sit in there. Upstairs was fine - nice big bedrooms and we slept well in the twin beds.

Very cosy beds, a generous kitchen. And a comfortable lounge. Good selection of birds come into garden. It is within easy walking range of eating places, bars and the shops as well as a bus stop and the train station. This holiday home is also excellent for dog owners. Excellent. I have stayed here for 3 straight years and I will be back. And this holiday home is in short range of lovely countryside, plenty of fine walks and quality wildlife. Also a high standard Golf Course just minutes away.

We were out walking most days and easy to get cleaned up and fed when we returned. The COOP around the corner had everything we needed. The wood burner was easy to use and soon heated up the house.

  • "We loved staying at the cottage, it was very comfortable and quiet, would recommend that a new frying pan was bought, as the only one available didn't have a flat bottom so the heat was only in one spot."

Also the bathroom was lovely but definitely needed a new slip mat as the one provided was full of mould and some of the cabinet hinges in the kitchen needed attention. But I wouldn't let any of these things put me off from coming back.

We had an issue with dried food on plates and grease on pans plus spots of blood on the bed sheets. Not a great start to our holiday when arriving after a long drive to have to start washing up. No logs or matches starter pack as described. We have contacted the owners and they said they will look into the issues we had.

  • "Pictures of the property especially the garden are clearly taken a very very long time ago."

The garden is unkept. The plants, bushes and weeds are out of control and makes it incredibly difficult to even enter the garden area. It's like walking into a forest. The property says there is seating area with furniture. The seats are old rotten wooden chairs in a shed which is hidden under overgrown bushes. You would have to remove spiders nests to reach them. Inside the property the carpets carried old dirt which was walked into the fabric of the carpet. The bedding in the guest room (2 beds) had stains on the mattress sheet and duvet cover. The sheets smelt clean but the stains were very clear to see. The chairs had old stains on and dust was everywhere. In thr kitchen we lifted the plastic basin inside the sink and discovered 2 maggots which were dead. As we travelled for over 8 hours and arrived very late in the night we had no choice other than to stay the night then left first thing in the morning cutting our 4 day stay short. We were offered a small refund. Very poor but accepted this to just forget about the experience and move on.

We regret that your experience was not as you expected. Please note there are plastic outdoor chairs and table kept in the shed for guests use, and the garden receives regular maintenance to ensure the path and decking area are accessible. Photos of the garden were taken in the height of summer, not in the autumn. The property is thoroughly cleaned between guests and bedding is regularly renewed. Property Owner

  • "The cottage seriously needs a deep clean."

The sofa in the snug was covered in dog hairs. The washing machine was stinking of sulphur, it needs to be cleaned. The top shelf in the kitchen was filthy. The layout in the kitchen was not good. The table in the middle was a hindrance. The shower was very poor. There is not one comfortable chair in the property. A serious rethink of furniture needs to take place. The beds were incredibly uncomfortable and the pillows were so thin. We had to go out and buy our own pillows, which is really unacceptable. We even bought a blow up mattress to enable a decent sleep. Uneven floors in the bedrooms with holes in them. We were booked to stay until Friday but we left on Wednesday. That's a first for us!! We most definitely will not be back.

Thank you for your feedback. We ask guests to let us know of any issues at the beginning of their stay, and certainly before purchasing replacement items. Church View benefits from an on-call caretaking team, two mobile numbers are provided, and we will do our best to rectify any problems as quickly as possible. The arrangement of furniture in Church View is designed to maximise space and comfort - the sofa off the kitchen provides a cosy spot to socialise while dinner is cooking, and in the lounge the two comfy IKEA armchairs can be easily positioned to enjoy the wood burner, watch the Smart TV, play games or read a book. The bathroom light switch has been replaced, new luxury mattress toppers have been added to each bed. Property Owner

  • "Church View is a cosy property BUT ."

. . . . . these are observations. They are NOT meant to be criticisms 1. The steep stairs cries out for a banister rail on the left side of the stairs going upwards. 2. ONE toilet roll is NOT enough. 3. There was no dish cloth available. We were unable to wipe down surfaces, spills, etc. 4. No cleaning spray available which would have helped with kitchen roll with the above. 5. A revamp of furniture would make greater use of the space available. Remove the two easy chairs in the living room. Move the bookcase to the left of the wood burner. Move the blue settee into the living room to where the bookcase was - then a family of four can sit more comfortably together. The circular table takes up too much space. With the blue settee moved into the living room, there is more room for maybe a rectangular table in the far end of the kitchen. 6. The light switch for the bathroom is faulty. 7. We left the property a day early because we just could not sleep in the bed for one more night. The mattress was woefully thin as were the pillows. SO uncomfortable. 8. The curtain in the living room is too long. Heat from the heater simply goes up hte curtain and then against a cold windowpane.

Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate you taking the time to share your observations. • "We did enjoy our stay at Church View."

So peaceful, very nice neighbours and gardens. Cottage was very nice and equipped not too bad, looks clean around the areas the eye can see. A few points to consider though : was very disappointing seeing stained mattresses on the 2 single beds. Perhaps an upgrade and a waterproof under sheet. Also pillows had some stains. Quite a lot of dust around the skirtings and under the beds. Kitchen bin and the bin area was very dirty inside and the seals around the fridge doors were dirty. A blind would be very welcome in the master bedroom. I don’t know if it was expected of us however the floors were hoovered and mopped before departure. These comments are not hard criticisms but observations and not everyone is as fussy as we are. To conclude, I would recommend this property to others and I would happily return for another stay. Thanks for a great time away.

We’re delighted that you enjoyed your stay and would recommend Church View. And thank you for leaving the cottage tidy, most guests do but by no means all! Your feedback has been noted and thanks for the taking the time to post. We hope to welcome you again next year! Property Owner

E minor inconsistencies. The owners were quick in their response about the broken bed except fact, no complaints at all there. However the silly niggle over someone to replace a broken screw in one of the living room chairs was eventually resolved by me buying a screw and fixing it myself as the handyman contacted several times by the owners, never turned up. That in no way spoiked our 4 week long stay. Sitting down in the evening as it snowed outside with the wood burner gave out a friendly glow is a memory that will endure for the rest of our lives. Highly recommended.

  • "I booked this cottage 2 years ago but was prevented by Covid so had to rearrange."

Prior to going away my friend noticed some adverse reviews from earlier this year - heating not working, poorly equipped kitchen. I rang to ask what had been done about this and was assured it was all attended to. This was not the case. When there I used the caretaker contact numbers to try to get someone out to look at the heating but they did not respond to my call or text. One day, to dry our wet coats and boots I resorted to leaving the oven on with the door open. Apart from the above, the cooker is old and the oven doesn’t reach the correct temperature. One of the metal beds rattles etc. Some of the towels had bleach stains. None of this is acceptable when you consider what was paid for the accomodation.

Thank you for your feedback, which has been duly noted. The property is heated by stand alone electric heaters in every room, independently operated by controls on each heater. All heaters are regularly checked and maintained, and all were fully operational at the time of your stay. In addition there is a wood burner in the lounge. The cooker was also fully operational during your stay, however given the age of the appliance, a new cooker is scheduled for installation during November 2021. All linen is regularly checked and replaced. We very much hope to welcome you to Church View again in the future. Property Owner

  • "We have stayed here previously and then we raised a number of issues - some of which we fixed ourselves - that could vastly improve the cottage."

In particular, the mattresses are tired and quite uncomfortable. Although there are some mattress protectors one of the singles is very badly stained. The linen provided is tired and of poor quality and as for the little throws, given presumably for extra warmth if needed, they are very poor quality. There is still no blind in the double bedroom and this is needed because the street light is directly outside. As for the kitchen equipment, (we mentioned this before) it is poor. The knives are not sharp, there are insufficient pots and pans and baking dishes. We had insufficient tea towels and the oven tray is filthy. The cooker is old and even though we can cope with that, an extractor fan would be useful! All in all, it is a pity because without too much work it could be a very nice and comfortable place. It is a very convenient location and although we'd love to book again because we often go to Kingussie we regret we will have to try and find a more comfortable and better equipped place.

Thank you for your feedback, which has been duly noted and specific points are addressed below. The double bed mattress was replaced in May this year and each mattress has a clean protector for each guests stay. All bed linen is regularly checked and replaced. Throws are decorative, but also regularly checked and replaced. We will monitor customer feedback with regard to a blackout blind in the double bedroom, at present there are no plans to provide this. Kitchen equipment has been added to and upgraded. A new cooker is scheduled for installation during November 2021. We very much hope to welcome you to Church View again in the future. Property Owner

Cottage situated in a quiet area of the village with easy access to local amenities it was clean and adequately equipped. Nice to have small private garden area. Good WiFi signal. Easy on street parking. Heaters in the cottage were difficult to set up and no instruction manual available. So glad my elderly Mother was unable to come with us as she would not have managed the stairs up to bedroom and bathroom. There are two very sharp turns in the stair with very narrow steps and no additional handrail - would certainly be challenging for some people. No handrail to assist getting in/out of shower/bath. We only used double bedroom and found the double bed rather small and uncomfortable - probably not helped by a paper thin mattress protector. This however did not stop us from enjoying our holiday in Kingussie and surrounding area!

Thank you for your feedback, we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay. There is an instruction manual provided for the heaters however we are unable to comment on its whereabouts at the time of your stay - it has now been returned to the kitchen drawer with the other instruction manuals. The double mattress was replaced in May 2021, and is a standard 4ft 6 inches. All linen is regularly checked and replaced. We very much hope to welcome you to Church View again in the future.
