  • "We absolutely loved our stay at 2, Swordale Cottages which has been beautifully decorated and furnished throughout."

    The welcome pack provided by the owner was comprehensive including both information about the cottage and also the locality; e.g. places of interest to visit, walks, local shops, places to eat etc. Also provided was a welcome basket of essentials, such as bread and milk, plus lovely biscuits, chocolate and homemade jam - all especially welcome after our long journey! The main rooms were all very spacious and contained everything needed to ensure we had a relaxing holiday. The two bathroom/shower rooms were compact, but everything worked perfectly. The kitchen was impressively equipped with all you’d need to prepare any meal, even a bread tin for making home made bread (which we did). The location of the cottage is a little remote, but we liked the peace and quiet and in any case food supplies in the village of Evanton weren’t far away. Communication from the owner before, during and after our stay was always friendly and helpful. Should we visit this part of Scotland again, 2, Swordale Cottages would definitely be top of our list of places to stay. Thoroughly recommended.

    Cosy at night with the woodburner fired up and slept great in comfy beds. A relaxing time for us all. Will certainly come back here again.

  • "What a lovely cottage in a great setting."

    Ruth has thought of everything you would hope for and great help throughout our stay. We were lucky to have great weather for March and nearby places to visit such as the Black Isle which is neither black nor an island! Evanton has a good Coop and don’t miss the gorge there( we did but I can’t read maps!). The people are friendly and helpful too. We even saw the shooting star. Thanks, Ann We hope to return

  • "No words can describe how amazing this little cottage was."

    One of the most important thing for us is cleanliness and this cottage was so clean, we could not fault it. Everything was so thought through, it had literally everything you needed for a comfortable stay, extra blankets, towels, sheets, kitchen utensils and accessories. Literally everything you could possibly need was there and all extremely well organized and clean. Ruth was very kind to have wood for the fire ready for when we arrived, we did pay for it but it was all there ready to use. We had lovely cosy nights by the wood burner. Perfect location to explore the Highlands, we had the most amazing drive through the highlands to Ullapool, which was only an hour! Perfect place to explore Chanonry Point to watch the dolphins and Invernesss is just 30 min away. Plenty of walk opportunities to do around the cottage too. And the garden is gorgeous, little birds coming down to bathe in the water. Anyone that stays here will not be disappointed.

  • "Outstanding rural cottage with beautiful gardens and countryside views."

    Well equipped, modern kitchen and warm and cosy living room with wood burning stove. Comfortably furnished with good quality beds and furnishings. Having two bathrooms was a bonus. High standard of cleanliness throughout. Car recommended due to rural location.

  • "From crossing the threshold we felt really welcome and that the owner really cared."

    The whole property was in immaculately prepared condition, inside and out. The sky at nighttime were spectacular, benefitting from a full moon in crystal clear skies. The area was so peaceful and relaxing. There was good walking country close at hand with the attractions of the Black Isle within easy driving distance. The local Store in Evanton was well-stocked and the staff were friendly and helpful.

The property

Tucked away in the sleepy hamlet of Swordale near Evanton, lies this quaint, mid-terrace, ex estate farmer's cottage.

2 Swordale Cottages is a lovely escape for families or couples eager to break away from normal life and explore this rural part of Scotland, close to the coast.

Enter this homely abode and find the sitting room, where you can get the wood burning stove roaring before sinking into the sumptuous sofa and enjoying a cosy night in.

Allow the chef of the group to relish in the kitchen, fitted with a range of modern appliances and sleek units, sure to inspire some home-cooking.

Both front and back doors lead out to the enclosed garden, where you can sit out and enjoy the tranquil surroundings with a favourite drink in hand.

Move upstairs and retire to the bedrooms, including a king-size and a twin, both with feature Victorian fireplaces, original flooring and cottage style windows, giving a real sense of character.

In between the bedrooms lies a shower room while downstairs there is a bathroom, so you can easily prepare for the day.

The village of Evanton offers a welcoming pub in the Novar Arms Hotel, ideal if you fancy a night off cooking, as well as a convenience store for picking up any essentials and a village post office.

Within ten miles lie the Alness and Invergordon Golf Clubs, offering superb courses with stunning views, or pop on your walking boots and explore the surrounding Highlands and unspoilt woodlands, either from your doorstep or further afield.

Aviemore and Cairngorm mountains are less than an hours drive away, and numerous Munros are within easy reach.

Venture north and visit the village of Dornoch offering a good selection of shops, historic buildings, Royal Golf Course and unspoilt beach, or head towards the coast and join the North Coast 500 route for some of the finest landscapes in the UK.

Black Isle with its quaint harbours, beaches and dolphin watching is only a short drive away.

The 18th century fishing port of Cromarty is well worth a visit, renowned for being one of the best preserved villages in the Highlands - From here you can take a speed boat out to see the dolphins and other wildlife at close quarters.

Alness 4 miles; Dingwall 7 miles; Inverness 17 miles, Aviemore 45 miles.

Evanton is a small highland village in Easter Ross situated 17 miles north of Inverness, the capital city of the Highlands, and a mile from the shores of the beautiful Cromarty Firth coast. The village boasts good local services all within easy reach, such as a village inn providing good quality pub food, a shop and Post Office. Evanton is very well situated for exploring the Highlands and has excellent golf courses very close by. The village attracts walkers, cyclists and wildlife spotters who all enjoy the fabulous unspoilt woodlands, river and coastal walks. Nearby is the Fyrish Monument, a monument built in 1782 on Fyrish Hill (Cnoc Fyrish). Alness, the nearest town, has a pretty high street, a good selection of shops and is home to the Dalmore Whisky Distillery. The bustling market town of Dingwall is situated just 7 miles away at the head of the Cromarty Firth and offers enhanced services and facilities with a great selection of shops. Aviemore, a popular ski resort is located 45 miles away and Ullapool on the west coast, with its transport links to the Western Isles, can be reached in just over an hours drive. A lovely base for your Highlands getaway.
