“The accom was very clean, spacious and well equipped.”

The cottage is well placed in a quiet location, just outside of Thurso but handy enough for shopping ect. It is well positioned for exploring the north east area and handy for a trip to Orkney. Colin our genial host has a great knowledge of the area and was very helpfull. Ian

The property

Thurso 1.5 miles.

This semi-detached bungalow rests in idyllic countryside on the outskirts of the small hamlet of Scrabster, near Thurso, in Northern Scotland.

Originally a farm cottage, the property boasts several character features that provide a welcoming accommodation for families looking to escape the hustle-and-bustle of everyday life and relax in this tranquil part of Scotland.

Spend your down time in the sitting room, with two plush settees and an alluring electric fireplace to curl up beside, as well as a flatscreen TV for entertainment.

Head to the contemporary kitchen to find a lovely space to prepare your meals, fully-equipped with a range of quality appliances to assist you during your stay.

Just off the kitchen is a utility room with washing machine and the family bathroom, featuring bath and shower over.

There are three bedrooms to choose from, including a king-size double, twin and double with overhead bunk.

Each bedroom has plush beds, ample furniture to store your personal items, and best of all, stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Outside there is a spacious, lawned garden and off-road parking for 3 cars.

Due to the rural location, you will have easy access across the rolling countryside, with a number of scenic walks and footpaths to explore, as well as a plethora of birdlife to spot along the way, ideal for those keen photographers too.

The property is very close by to the North Coast 500 route and exploring the route is well worth it.

Thurso offers a great selection of traditional pubs and restaurants, for some fine food and real Scottish ale, as well as a range of shops and supermarkets for all your amenities.

For an action-packed day out, get a ferry over to Mainland, the main island of Orkeny where you will be rewarded with stunning views and prehistoric monuments, or you can spend the day brushing up on local history whilst walking amongst the sea breeze.

About the location

John O' Groats 14 miles, Wick 20.4 miles.

Thurso is the most northerly town in mainland Scotland and also boasts the country's most northerly railway station! Guests can take a ferry across to Orkney. John O'Groats Ferries offer the popular day trip package of ferry and tour. Orkney is a great place to visit and the ferry crosses regularly throughout the year from Scrabster and Gills Bay. If you take your car then remember to book first! Another great place to visit is the Queen Elizabeth Castle of Mey, why not walk around the stunning gardens or take the children to the animal farm! Thurso benefits from a pretty seafront location and from here you can see the remains of Thurso Castle. The newer part of the town benefits from wide streets with Sir John's Square at the centre. The town offers a good selection of shops, restaurants and hotels and everything that visitors to the area could possibly need. The Dunnet beach is a fantastic beach to visit! It is also situated perfectly for a visit to John O'Groats, which is just 14 miles away and Durness, where Smoo Cave, Cape Wrath and the Durness Golf Course are well worth a visit.
