  • "A nice cottage to use as a base to explore the highlands"

  • "This cottage is the original definition of being 'in the middle of nowhere' and on initial view inside it seems to be caught in a time warp of at least 40 years, but after a while I realised that it's really a cosy country cottage."

The kitchen has been modernised, the bathroom was a good standard and the beds were comfortable. Especially because of the complete darkness at night, it allowed for a good sleep. Overall it was like staying in a Grandmother's cottage, but with modern conveniences.

  • "Loft bedrooms had radiators but no control knobs, so children cold."

The cooker was very dated and dangerous as the hot plates did not light up, therefore they could look off but still be hot, the grill did not show red either. The lack of a bulb in the outside light fitting was also dangerous as the two very steep steps down to the garden are very slippery, so night time was a hazard.

!! Found cottage in a bit of a state, dishes had not been washed, windows would not lock,we opened one and took us 20 mins to shut,as it was skew wiff!!! Final straw was when we had wood lice come thru window sill in kitchen. Sorry but I cannot recommend this cottage.

We loved the location a great place to get to places from and nice to come back to after a busy day. Bonus was getting to feed the lambs.

  • "We enjoyed a fantastic week in Caithness and Toftingall Farm was the perfect base for our excursions."

The cottage was clean, warm, spacious and comfortable and ideal for anyone travelling with dogs. Staying on a working farm at lambing time was a highlight and would be a great experience for families and children who have not experienced this before. The property owner, Liz, was very welcoming and we loved being shown around the new born lambs. Highly recommended.
