  • "Really superb cottage."

Plenty of extra little touches around the place that show the hosts have put lots of effort in, and created a home from home rather than just a "rental". Such a comfy place to stay. I was staying here while working in the area, was a great place to come back to each night, better than any hotel room. Wish I could have stayed longer. Great location to access some of the best bits of Scotland. I will be back.

Warwick and Becky were lovely hosts, with excellent communication. The property is lovely and cosy, quite stripped back, and has a lovely calm feeling when relaxing in the evening. One tiny comment would be that we couldn't find a first aid kit in the property. Nothing major, but just a little note.. :)

It is comfortable and spacious accommodation for two and we felt relaxed as soon as we crossed the threshold. The Cow Byre is situated in an ideal location for nature lovers, walkers and cyclists. We spent our days walking and cycling in Glen Affric, Glenstrathfarrar and Glen Cannich, each stunningly beautiful with an abundance of flora and fauna. The property is also well located for exploring other beautiful places further afield, e.g. Torridon. Highly recommended.

  • "We stayed in June for a couple of weeks looking forward to a break away from it all."

The property is clean, welcoming, and nicely decorated with a cosy feel inside. We were greeted by the owner when we arrived and the warm loaf of bread left out for us was a really nice touch. The property has really nice views over the River Beauly with French doors that lead out onto a decked area at the front of the property advertised as having spectacular views you can enjoy while having your morning coffee. However, the decking area is over looked by the owner’s house and side windows and you are clearly visible on their security cameras so from day one we knew we would never be comfortable or be able to relax sitting out on the decking. During our stay, there were several vehicles parked directly outside the French doors facing directly into the property including the owners large van interrupting any view and as a consequence spent most evenings inside the property. This was not the isolated or peaceful environment we were hoping for so we decide to book alternative accommodation along the NC500 for a few nights. As we were self-catering we called to the shop to get some supplies but when we arrived found that every kitchen cupboard was full with no storage space so had to leave most of it out on the sides leaving very limited space for any preparation. We were also very surprised to find there was not a wardrobe in the bedroom when there was plenty of room and provided with just four draws to cram everything into which then became creased!!! We do not normally leave any negative reviews and normally like to focus on the positives but felt it important to leave an honest and constructive review of our experience to make other people aware that the property is not quite as private or secluded as the photographs would suggest!

About the location

BEAULY

Inverness 12 miles.

Lying on the north bank of the River Beauly, just 12 miles west of Inverness, the village of Beauly is situated at the very heart of the Highlands. An excellent location for touring, the village is within easy reach of Loch Ness, the ancient Caledonian pine forests of Glen Affric and Strathfarrar and the coast (sandy beaches 8 miles). The name Beauly comes from the French “beau lieu” or “beautiful place” and the village prides itself on being both scenic and well-kept, having won both Scotland and Britain in Bloom titles. One of Beauly's highlights is the ruined 13th Century priory, around which the village was built. Today the village is famous for its craft-based industries and offers an excellent selection of shops, pubs and restaurants. With some of the best scenery the Highlands has to offer just on the doorstep, Beauly makes an excellent holiday base!
