  • "We actually stayed in The Smithy as Manor Cottage was unavailable."

The cottage and surrounds were very comfortable and it is a great location for exploring the area. The follow-up by staff on any requests we made was quick and polite. Only criticisms of the cottage would be that the bathroom fan sounded on its last legs and the electric hob plates were poor which made cooking a meal on them difficult !

  • "We were upgraded my the manager to 'Primula Patch', a slightly larger cottage."

The description is basically accurate - if rather OTT ('darling bedrooms'?). We enjoyed walking in the Cheviot Hills - footpath from the site directly into the hills could be mentioned in the description. The accommodation is part of a 'country club' - a rather grand term for having a small pool and other facilities (closed for Covid and of no interest to us). It means some aspects are run a little bit like a hotel, with staff on site. TV reception was poor on many channels - probably due to the location. We were asked to put our full credit card details on a form and leave it in the public area outside the cottage to be collected by the on-site staff. We did not do that and would not expect anyone mindful of security to do so! (we had given details by phone, and could probably have dealt directly with staff).

  • "Firstly we , were upgraded to The Old Smithy due to a shower problem in Swale Cottage."

Very pleased with the upgrade as it was detached cottage and was by stream . Walks from the this area were easy and spectacular. All in all, a very relaxing stay.
